Additionally, the industry as a whole supported its growth through the purchase and installation of an impressive host of new, cutting-edge machinery. CCL To Buy Innovia For $842 million Canadian label and packaging maker CCL Industries Inc. said it would buy Innovia Group for around C$1.13 billion ($842 million). CCL’s pro-forma annual sales are forecast to exceed C$5 billion after the deal, expected by the end of first quarter of 2017, the company said. Avery Dennison Buys Hanita Coatings Avery Dennison Corporation has agreed to acquire Hanita Coatings, a pressure sensitive materials manu- facturer of specialty films and lami- nates, from Kibbutz Hanita Coatings and Tene Investment Funds for the purchase price of $75 million, sub- ject to customary adjustments. Headquartered in Israel, with sales and distribution facilities in the Unit- ed States, Germany, China and Aus- tralia, Hanita Coatings develops and manufactures coated, laminated, and metalized polyester films for a range of industrial and commercial appli- cations, all of which require high performance and excellent quality.

WS Packaging Invests In Mark Andy Digital Press WS Packaging, a pressure-sensitive label converter with 17 facilities throughout North America, has pur- chased its second Mark Andy Digital Series hybrid so- lution. The new press, custom configured to fit the company’s prime label production requirements, will augment the business growth resulting from their original Digital Series investment, which has been running full production since December 2015. The new press will be installed before year-end in the company’s Dallas,Texas, facility. Forming A Partnership The existing Digital Series installation is running two 12-hour shifts, seven days per week and sup- ports the company’s growing customer demands for fast response, short lead times, multiple SKUs, vari- able data printing, and versioned graphics. The press runs are anywhere from 350 to 8,000 feet, with about 25 changeovers in a shift. This second invest- ment will further expand this digital printing capacity. The Mark Andy Digital Series reportedly supports high-quality jobs at speeds up to 240 fpm and is built on the Performance Series platform.

VCG-Connect Implements Esko’s Device Manager UK reprographic and plate-making specialist VCG- Connect is said to be enjoying greater operational visibility and smoother workflow following its imple- mentation of Esko's Device Manager for flexo plate making. VCG-Connect, located in Bury, is a provider of digi- tal reprographics and photopolymer printing plates. It provides flexographic services to many of Europe’s largest printers and brand owners. A long standing Esko customer,VGC-Connect was a beta site for Device Manager. Device Manager is said to bridge the gap between the prepress department and the plate room. AWA Issues Call For Entries For Sleeve Label Awards The AWA Sleeve Label Awards, now in its third year, is open for entries until January 27, 2017. Entries are invited from all participants in this value chain, from designers, film producers, printers/converters, to end users and brand owners. Awards will be presented in four categories: heat shrink TD sleeves, stretch sleeves, roll-fed MD shrink sleeves, and sleeves of any type which deliver a spe- cial environmental contribution. In addition, all class winners will automatically be entered for recognition as the outstanding entry overall, as the Best Sleeve Label of 2017. The 2017 winners will be announced at a special awards ceremony during the AWA International Sleeve Label Conference & Exhibition to be held in Miami, Florida, on April 5-7, 2017. Clondalkin Flexible Packaging Group has officially transferred ownership to the Dutch-based private eq- uity firm, Egeria. This follows the announcement in September that Egeria had signed an agreement to ac- quire 100 percent of the shares of Clondalkin Flexible Packaging Group from an affiliate ofWarburg Pincus. As part of this change in ownership, a new leader- ship team has taken over the running of the Group. Paddy Mullaney, former CEO of Clondalkin Flexible Packaging, and Michel Jansen, former CFO, have stepped down from their positions.The new CFO of Clondalkin Flexible Packaging is Aschwin Hollander, who was most recently CFO for Stork Prints Group. Graphic Packaging International , Atlanta, Geor- gia, entered into an agreement to acquire 100 per- cent of the outstanding equity of folding carton manufacturer Walter G. Anderson, Hamel, Minnesota. The WG Anderson deal follows the completion of Graphic Packaging’s takeover of Mexico’s G-Box and it entering a deal to acquire Australia’s Colorpak. Print Pro Inc. , Greenville, Wisconsin, installed a new gearless flexo press from Uteco, in an attempt to grow its tissue and towel wrap business. Garlock Printing & Converting, installed two new Uteco presses, one in its Gardner, Massachusetts, facility and the other in its Reno, Nevada, facility. M&M Printed Bag in Chino Hills, California, added its second Uteco Onyx press. Label Impressions, a label and flexible packaging printer in Orange, California, expanded its operations into a new 30,000-square-foot manufacturing space. In tandem with the expansion, the company installed two additional 10-color Nilpeter presses in 13-inch and 17-inch widths to assist in the development of unique label and pouch products, such as its “softscreen” print - a low cost alternative to expen- sive screen printing. Flint Group , as part of its strategy to grow in strategic market segments, acquired Advanced Color Systems, Inc. (ACS) located in Tualatin, Oregon. Ad- vanced Color Systems manufactures and distributes water-based inks in North America and also exports to some countries outside of North America. Pro Mach, Inc. , Cincinnati, Ohio, an integrated packaging solutions company, acquired EPI Labelers, New Freedom, Pennsylvania. EPI Labelers is a dedicat- ed manufacturer of labeling products for packaging and promotional needs, providing for a large contin- gent of consumer snack food and bakery brands. Pure Pak ,which is located in Phoenix, continued its rapid expansion by adding a second Uteco press in just three years, an 8-color Onyx 808. Poly Print, located in Tucson, added a 10-color Onyx 108. The newest member to the Uteco family,Arizona Flexibles located in Lake Havasu City, purchased an 8-color Onyx 808. Amcor Ltd . bought BPI China, the Chinese sub- sidiary of British Polythene Industries plc, for US$13 million.BPI China has one plant in Xinhui, in southern China, with blown film and flexographic printing lines.

De La Rue To Acquire DuPont Authentication Business De La Rue and DuPont Electronics & Communica- tions have reached an agreement for DuPont to sell its global Authentication business to De La Rue, a anti-counterfeiting solutions provider serving both commercial and government customers. DuPont Au- thentication manufactures and sells photopolymer films focused on anti-counterfeiting applications, in- cluding brand protection and secure ID. The sale is expected to close by the end of 2016, subject to cus- tomary closing conditions. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. As part of the transaction, De La Rue will acquire DuPont Authentication’s Logan, Utah, manufacturing facility and employees, a research and development team in Wilmington, Delaware, global salespeople, three brands, customer information, and other rele- vant intellectual property. As reportedly the world’s largest designer and com- mercial printer of banknotes, De La Rue designs, manufactures and delivers banknotes, banknote sub- strates and security features. De La Rue is also report- edly the world’s largest commercial printer of passports, delivering national and international iden- tity tokens and software solutions for governments.

MarketResearch.com , Washington, DC, a supplier of market research solutions and services, completed its acquisition of The Freedonia Group, a global cre- ator of industry research reports and consulting ser- vices for more than 30 years. Flint Group issued a binding offer to Siegwerk to acquire its web offset business. This offer included the transfer of all technical expertise and product portfolios relating to Siegwerk’s Heatset and Newsink product lines. Bizerba , headquartered in Balingen, Germany, a supplier of weighing, cutting and labeling technolo- gy, acquired Mac & Label, Cesena, Italy, a company specialized in labeling applicators for the fruit and vegetable sector. PC Industries , an inspection system manufacturer in Gurnee, Illinois, and UK-based Verification Systems Limited (VSL) reached an agreement for PC Indus- tries to acquire VSL.
