Marcel Guibord met en doute les avis légaux
de confiance contre l’ancien directeur général, Daniel Gatien. Le nouveau directeur général de la municipalité, Michel Bellemare, aurait demandé de retirer les documents du site Web, la semaine dernière, à la suite de la réception d’avis juridiques. Toutefois, le maire Marcel Guibord a demandé de remettre les documents sur le site Web de la municipalité. «Peut-être qu’il y a des erreurs dans les avis juridiques», a déclaré Marcel Guibord.

Payer estime que le maire n’a pas agi correctement dans cette affaire. «Je suis très déçu du geste. Il a été au-delà de son pouvoir. Il est allé contre le directeur général et nous n’avons pas été avisés», a confié M. Payer. Notons que le conseiller émettait ses commentaires à la suite de l’annonce de la destitution du conseiller Guy Desjardins des comités municipaux. Husband charged in Melissa Richmond murder case

OTTAWA | Police have charged the hus- band of Melissa Kelly Richmond with her murder. Howard Richmond, 50, appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa on Sat- urday, Aug. 3, for reading and entry of the charge. He was scheduled for a second court appearance by videolink on Tuesday, Aug. 6. Richmond was arrested earlier in the week as part of a joint investigation by the OPP and Ottawa Police Services (OPS) into the death of his 28-year-old wife. She was reported missing after she was last seen leaving their home in Winchester late at
night July 24. Both her car and her body were later found in Ottawa’s south end over

Police seek help tracing paving fraud case
in Canada on July 1. The Frontenac OPP arrested the two July 24 after receiving a call from a homeowner who became suspicious after handing over a $5850 cheque for work the two did on her driveway. The suspects showed up at her home and said they had a load of recycled asphalt recovered from a nearby parking lot demolition and did she want some paving work done on her driveway. They brought over three loads of cold
asphalt, raked and rolled the stuff over her driveway and then presented her with the bill. After handing over the cheque, the woman became suspicious about the situ- ation, called her bank to cancel the cheque, and then phoned police. The OPP picked up one of the two men at the house while the other was found over in nearby Kingston, trying and failing to cash the cheque at a Money Mart outlet. The two men hold United Kingdom pass- ports which show they arrived in Canada July 1. CURRAN | Après plusieurs mois d’attente, Jason Laframboise a finalement reçu le feu vert pour se rendre à Toronto et s’inscrire sur la liste d’attente pour de nouveaux poumons. Il est parti mardi dernier. Rappelons que depuis près de cinq ans maintenant, Jason Laframboise, âgé de 40 ans, souffre d’une fibrose pulmonaire idiopathique. Au cours des dernières années, il a été contraint d’abandonner son emploi en raison de sa condition physique. Il ne peut respirer efficacement qu’à l’aide d’un appareil à oxygène. La seule porte de sortie pour Jason Laframboise était une transplantation pulmonaire. Le 19 juillet, il a reçu un appel des plus motivants lui disant de se rendre dès que possible à Toronto. «J’ai vraiment hâte, a confié Jason Laframboise. Je sais aussi que je vais passer à travers. Ce sera bien sûr un long processus». Malgré son enthousiasme, le résident de Curran ne cache pas ses craintes. À Toronto, il rencontrera un psychologue afin de bien comprendre l’étendu de l’opération. «Il y a un volet santé mentale, ils doivent te préparer. C’est quand même épeurant. On entend beaucoup parler d’opérations réussies et d’autres où les gens n’ont pas survécu. Mais, je ne pense pas à celles-là». Ainsi, depuis le 6 août, Jason Laframboise est officiellement sur la liste d’attente pour une transplantation. Le temps d’attente peut s’étendre sur plusieurs mois. Il est toutefois possible que M. Laframboise obtienne les nouveaux poumons plus tôt que prévu. «Ça fait cinq personnes dont j’entends parler qui ont reçu le don, et ils sont partis pendant cinq mois. Cette jeune dame vit aujourd’hui grâce à une double transplantation de poumons. Elle a fait passer un message appuyant le don d’organes à des émissions, dont Ellen Degeneres. «Elle a donné du courage à beaucoup de gens qui attendent des organes. Je lui ai annoncé la bonne nouvelle sur facebook. J’aimerais bien ça la rencontrer. Elle va souvent rendre visite à l’hôpital.» La communauté se mobilise Jason Laframboise n’aura finalement pas affronté la maladie seule, mais bien
en compagnie de sa famille, ses amis et la communauté. On se souviendra qu’en janvier, la communauté avait bien répondu à l’appel lors d’un souper-bénéfice visant à aider Jason Laframboise à défrayer les coûts pour le logement dans le cadre de son séjour à Toronto. Grâce à la générosité des gens, une somme d’environ 30 000 dollars avait été amassée. «Sans l’appui du public, on n’aurait jamais pu se permettre le voyage. C’est une aide grandement appréciéeet je remercieencore les gens», a confié Jason Laframboise. Ce dernier a tenu à ajouter que malgré son absence, sa compagnie Jason Sealer demeure active.

Now the CHI wants to extend the host family arrangement it has for the UCDSB to include Rockland and its local English high school. The agency is seeking host families in ei- ther Rockland or the nearby villages who would be willing to take in a student from abroad for any length of stay ranging from a couple weeks to several months or even a full school year if possible. Right now the kind of ESL students that CHI and the UCDSB are looking at for Rock- land are "high fluency" students. They are well-versed in English and want to immerse themselves in an environment where their primary language would be both the for- mal English they have learned and also the vernacular English of everyday normal con- versation. As for the host families, the main criteria for CHI is that English be the primary lan- guage in the home and that the host fami- lies are ready and willing to treat their stu- dent billets like they are part of the family. Things are feeling a little bit cooler upstairs for every member of the Clarence-Rock- land Fire Department. As a showof support for one of their ownwho is suffering from cancer and now undergoing chemotherapy, all 33 members of the fire stations sat down and had their heads shaved clean. The wives of some of the members took care of the clipping and razor work. The fire department also collected $500 to donate to the Canadian Cancer Society regional office. Le propriétaire Roger Grenon a remis 5000 dollars à la famille PîtreafindevenirenaideàJustin qui souffre d’autisme. Cette somme financera les multiples thérapies d’apprentissage de Justin. L’équipe de Grenon Indépendant a amassé les fonds dans le cadre de diverses campagnes auprès de la clientèle en magasin, en plus de contributions de la part des employés. Kids don’t need a lot of flash and splash to enjoy the summer. But, as the folks at the YMCA know for a fact, a little old-fash- ioned carnival style fun can go a long way to putting smiles on young faces. Three of the YMCAs operating in the Na- tional Capital Region pooled their resourc- es and staff to host a Carnival Day special event in Rockland at the end of July for chil- dren enrolled in Y summer camp programs. The mix of “carnival midway” games and inflatable play structures proved a big hit with everyone. YMCA spokesman Sam Cardarelli, orga- nizer for this year’s event, reported more than 300 children of all ages from the Rock- land, Orléans, and Metro Taggart Ys crowd- ing onto the field behind the Rockland YMCA for all the outdoor fun. “Almost 100 more than last year,” he said. “It’s becoming more popular.”

ST-ALBERT l Des jeux, du fromage, du rire et de la bonne humeur, voilà ce à quoi les milliers de visiteurs peuvent s’attendre lors du 20e anniversaire du Festival de la Curd de St-Albert, qui se tiendra du 14 au 18 août. Présenté par la Fromagerie St-Albert, en collaboration avec les Producteurs laitiers du Canada, le Festival propose une pro- grammation colorée de grands noms de la chanson, du rire et de la magie. Pour ce 20e anniversaire, les organisateurs ont voulu of- frir aux festivaliers des moments tout à fait spéciaux. Comme chaque année, les festivaliers pourront s’amuser dans le labyrinthe gé- ant, réveiller leurs papilles gustatives avec la zone marché des saveurs, assister aux démonstrations culinaires du chef Thierry Deletrez ou encore assister au Défi Inter- villages. Cette dernière activité a connu un succès monstre à ses tout débuts. Les samedi et dimanche du Festival, en après- midi, les six villages (Saint-Albert, Cassel- man, Bourget, Embrun, Saint-Isidore et Crysler) s’affronteront dans une série folle d’épreuves aussi spectaculaires les unes que les autres. Les concurrents devront faire appel à leur force, leur agilité, leur esprit d’équipe et leur débrouillardise. À la fin des

épreuves, un prix de 3000$ sera remis au vil- lage gagnant et sera investi dans un projet communautaire. Les familles et les enfants ne sont pas ou- bliés dans ce Festival puisque le groupe les Petites tounes, composé de Carlos, Claude, Martin et Éric, chantera des chansons aux textes ingénieux pour le plus grand plaisir des jeunes. La ménagerie revient aussi cette
année afin d’amener les petits au contact de la nature en visitant la ferme et en ap- prenant à traire une vache. Côté spectacle, le Festival a misé gros avec le magicien Alain Choquette, Jean- François Mercier, Seing, Cayouche et Robert Charlebois. L’auteur-compositeur, musicien et interprète, qui fête ses 50 ans de carrière, est devenu une figure emblématique de la
chanson dans l’ensemble de la francophonie. Il se produira sur scène le samedi, à 21h, en ayant pris soin de concocter un spectacle haut en couleurs de ses plus grands suc- cès. La magie des couleurs se poursuivra tout juste après la prestation de Charlebois puisqu’un grand feu d’artifice éclatera dans le ciel, marquant ainsi les 20 folles années de réussite du Festival de la Curd.
