HIGHWAY BRIDGE RENAMED IN HONOUR OF OPP OFFICER
OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique dedicates the overpass bridge at the intersection of Highway 34 and Highway 417 near Vankleek Hill to the memory of Constable Alfred J. Ferguson during an official renaming ceremony April 12 in Hawkesbury. earning a reputation for his investigative efforts, which included four commendations for «persistence in solving investigations» on various cases. Ferguson was a member of the Hawkes- bury Curling Club and the local Rotary Club. He also served as a church warden for the Holy Trinity Anglican Church. Constable Ferguson, 38, was on patrol on Highway 34, May 23, 1940. He was headed south on the road. Ahead of him another vehicle was trying to pass a horse- and-cart when it stopped because of an oncoming truck. Constable Ferguson’s motorcycle struck the stopped vehicle. He died as a result of injuries he sustained in the accident. The April 12 dedication ceremony opened with a ceremonial march of OPP officers, including a colour guard of flagbearers and preceded by Pipe Major Steve McDougall. Members of Ferguson’s family were present for the unveiling of the official name plaque for the bridge.
The overpass bridge at Highway 417 near Vankleek Hill now honours the memory of an OPP officer who died in the line of duty. OPP officials held a dedication ceremony April 12 in Hawkesbury for the official rena- ming of the bridge on Highway 34 near Highway 417 as the Constable Alfred J. Ferguson Memorial Bridge. The bridge is one of several in the Prescott-Russell region which have been renamed and dedicated to the memory of OPP officers. «This bridge dedication is an important act of remembrance,» said OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique. «He (Ferguson) shall not be forgotten. He shall always be a part of our proud history.» Constable Ferguson, born in 1901, began his career in law enforcement as a traffic officer for the provincial highways depart- ment. Five years later in 1930, he joined the OPP and became a motorcycle patrol officer,

Grads 2 Hawks 4 Les Hawks accueillaient les Grads au Complexe sportif Robert Hartley pour le match numéro trois le lendemain. Kerfalla Toure a poursuivi sur sa lancée du match précédant en inscrivant le premier but des Hawks en première période sur des passes de William Gendron et Mark Cooper. Les Grads ont ensuite riposté avec deux buts consécutifs en fin de première période pour prendre les devants 2-1 avant de rentrer au vestiaire. Mais les Hawks n’ont pas baissé les bras, et l’équipe locale a enfilé trois buts sans riposte pour vaincre les visiteurs par la marque de 4-2. La Compagnie d'édition André Paquette Inc., éditeur de journaux communautaires bilingues à Hawkesbury (Tribune-Express, Le Carillon), Lachute (L'Argenteuil), Rockland (Vision) et Embrun (Reflet-News) recherche les services d'un JOURNALISTE-RÉDACTEUR Fonctions : • Rédiger des articles sur une variété de sujets, y compris des sujets découlant de réunions municipales, d'événements communautaires, de sports, d'arts, etc. • Diriger une salle de rédaction composée de journalistes, en relisant les articles et en élaborant des plans pour chaque journal hebdomadaire. • Prendre des photos et enregistrer des vidéos • Mettre en page le journal à l'aide d'InDesign • Préparer des articles pour le site web et l'application mobile. Qualifications : • Formation en journalisme ou dans un domaine pertinent ; ou expérience pertinente. • Bilingue : capacité à communiquer en anglais et en français ; la capacité à bien écrire dans les deux langues sera considérée comme un atout important.
