Mosquito management for summertime
Tips for residents:
Remove any type of container that will hold water, like flowerpots, old tires, bird baths, buckets, etc. It only takes a teaspoon of water to become a mosquito larvae hatchery! Mosquitoes love resting in overgrown shrubbery and tall grasses. Trimming your shrubs and cutting your lawn encourages mosquitoes to rest elsewhere.
Community Emergency Response Team
Are you prepared for an emergency? Do you want to help your Gloucester, Mathews and Middlesex community if one arises? The Community Emergency Response Team, CERT, is a positive and realistic approach to emergency and disaster situations, where citizens may initially be on their own. While people will respond to others in need without the training, one goal of the CERT program is to help them do so efficiently, without placing themselves in unnecessary danger. Your CERT is a group of community volunteers that get trained to manage utilities and put out small fires, provide Basic First Aid, search an area safely, help at local events and more! CERT members are not first responders, but they offer support in our communities. The training is free. Email jwenner@gloucesterva.info or call 804- 693-1390 for more information.
