Reporting to the Director of Estates Operations the Head of Property is responsible for leading the property and asset management of the College’s core estate and non-core (i.e. investment) portfolio, ensuring that the requirements of both the landlord and tenant are met. This will involve driving income and value across the notable estate portfolio by way of innovative and proactive asset management initiatives. The successful candidate will be a Chartered Surveyor with proven experience of leading estate surveying duties across a portfolio of significant scale and complexity, either in a client side or advisory capacity. You will have demonstrable expertise in landlord/tenant relationships with a proven track record of negotiating and working with professional consultants. The Head of Property will work closely with the Director of Estates Operations to identify strategic development opportunity throughout the College’s land and property interests. The Head of Property appointment offers the opportunity to be directly responsible for leading a high-profile property portfolio on behalf of a globally renowned higher education institution. The Imperial Estate South Kensington is our main campus and it is here that most undergraduate and postgraduate activity takes place. It’s a compact site in the heart of ‘Albertopolis’ and is home to a huge range of architectural styles from the Edwardian Royal School of Mines building to the ultra-modern Norman Foster-designed Business School. There’s plenty of green space too, including a beautiful landscaped square, with our famous Queen’s Tower at one end. Imperial’s White City campus is a platform for innovation and entrepreneurship at the heart of a vibrant area to live, work and play. The College is driving this evolution with a £2 billion investment in a new 23-acre integrated collaborative campus. Purpose of the Post The post holder plays a leading role in the strategic and operational development and management of Estates and property asset management cross-College in core and also operational property within the College non-core (i.e. investment) estate for Imperial College London, taking responsibility for the commercial, leasing, planning and legal matters relating to property and land. The role will work closely with the Directors of: Estates Operations, Office of Financial Strategy, Campus Services, as well as senior managers across the College, including Legal Services and Communications, to ensure that appropriate agreements, processes and policies are in place and strategic opportunities developed to protect and advance Imperial College London’s property and land interests. Of critical importance will be the post holder’s role in creating an innovative service for the benefit of College stakeholders and which is recognised as a leading area amongst benchmark peer Higher Education Institutions. Key Responsibilities Leadership and Strategy

• To work closely with the Director of Estates Operations to develop and manage the planning of the strategic development of the College’s estate and property assets, managing risks appropriately. • To provide strategic leadership to negotiation, letting, leasing and property asset management. • To develop and implement operational plans in line with strategic objectives, setting priorities as necessary. • To lead on establishing an innovative cross-College collaborative approach to the management of Property and Estates, working with internal College stakeholders in its development. • To formulate, establish and review best practice policies, processes and standards, which relate to and support College strategy, engaging and implementing innovative technological solutions. • To build and lead a Property team (internal and external) that delivers best practice and active property and estate management to provide maximum value/returns, subject to the occupational requirements of the College (which will have priority). • To develop and motivate the Property team, exhorting the values enshrined in Imperial Expectations, and Values, Equal Opportunities and Diversity. Analysis and Reporting • To analyse the performance of property assets in relation to the strategic objectives set and report to the Director of Estates Operations and other directors. To provide agreed Key Performance Indicators accurately and on time, with narrative to the Director of Estates Operations. • To analyse and report on statutory and planning policy development that may affect the Property assets of the College and its strategic objectives, and to formulate actions to be implemented as necessary in minimising risk in achieving those objectives and / or compliance. • To engage, analyse and report on commercial property market information and trends, threats to and opportunities for increasing rental and capital income for property assets of the College through active asset management. Customer Service • To evaluate the existing provision of service as part of continuous improvement, keeping abreast of advances in the external market amongst private and public providers, including leading peer Higher Education Institutions.

• To set best practice standards across the services provided by Property and Estates Management, and to ensure that these are fully met. • To ensure that the Property team is responsive in its operational delivery and communications, including compliance with statutory and College regulations, as well as acting on feedback received that facilitates improvements in service provision. • To acknowledge and fully meet Imperial Expectations and College Values. Planning and Organising • To establish robust and fit-for-purpose frameworks for the management of College property and estates, through cross-College stakeholder participant projects from inception to implementation. • Participate in and contribute to the annual strategic and operational planning process for the departmental Three Year Plan in support of Divisional and College planning. Finance / Resource Management • To be responsible for the formulation of income and expenditure budgets and related budgetary plans and the utilisation, control and management of budgets and resources. • To have overall responsibility for business rate planning, protocol and budget cross-College. • To undertake and contribute to budget commentary, review and challenge events. Liaison • To cultivate and establish external relationships, including public and private organisations nationally and locally, and peer groups in leading Higher Education Institutions, in advancement of the service provided by Property and Estates Management in support of the strategic objectives of the College. • To engage and cultivate effective and influential relationships with owners and occupiers of land and property, that is neighbouring, adjoins and/or contiguous with that occupied or owned by the College. • To interact with senior officers within Support Services and the wider College community in promoting and engendering cross departmental collaboration, synergies and the exchange of ideas and information. • To be a member of relevant internal and external Project Boards, Working Parties, Steering Groups and Committees as required. • To attend the occasional meeting outside of normal working hours e.g. Council Planning meetings.

Continuous Improvement • To attend cross-College briefings and events to ensure an up to date knowledge of developments affecting the College. • To attend external briefings to ensure conversant with developments in business and the commercial, institutional and residential property marketplace. • To undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) commensurate with the requirements of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (or equivalent) and training as identified by the College’s Training Needs Analysis. Work Location Due to COVID-19, there will be areas of the College where staff are asked to work remotely whilst we begin to assess if and how the College can move towards a hybrid way of working – where work is undertaken remotely and on campus.
