LEADING THE AESTHETICS INDUSTRY
Introducing Kiera Dicicco, local business owner of Albany Aesthetics and Beauty Sleep Anesthesia. Kiera has seven years of experience as a highly-skilled nurse practitioner and advanced nurse anesthesiologist. Combining her love for anesthesia and aesthetics, she expanded her two businesses in the Summer of 2022. Kiera’s ambition was always to become an anesthesiologist. Initially, the eld of aesthetics didn’t cross her mind. However, she started providing injectables to her friends and family as a hobby on the side of her anesthesiologist career. As Kiera’s client base grew, she faced a choice: to cut back on her clientele or turn this venture into a full-time job. She made the jump and purchased a small building in Downtown Stuart - where in the end, her clientele blossomed, and her passion for aesthetics grew, which led to the grand expansion of Albany Aesthetics. In the Summer of 2022, Kiera’s dreams became a reality as she opened the doors to her new Albany Aesthetics location. She created a space with everything from the beauty lounge to the boutique to the state-of-the-art plastic surgery center. She integrates her other business, Beauty Sleep Anesthesia, into the same building, creating a one-stop shop for clients looking to enhance their beauty and wellness with the utmost care and convenience. e location is stunning, making for a truly luxurious and unforgettable experience. She notes, “I feel very blessed by the clientele; they’re the reason I’ve been able to build and grow.” In Kiera’s words, “I want to bring something to Stuart that we don’t have here, modern and edgy, more of what we see in South Florida.” Kiera is a master injector with a reputation for her distinctive technique and artistry. Kiera keeps the name Beauty Sleep Anesthesia rather than using Albany Anesthesia because that was her rst LLC. Multiple plastic surgeons that Kiera looks up to will be operating at her facility. “I love that I can bring both of my passions together,” she adds. Kiera’s love for fashion is evident as she considered pursuing a career in the fashion industry. She opened Albany Boutique within the Albany Aesthetics facility, providing her clients with a distinctive and opulent shopping experience. “My goal is to introduce high-end fashion to Stuart,” Kiera notes. She recognizes Stuart’s need for such stores and aspires to keep her clients and locals from traveling south for high-end items. Ask Dr. Wy… Richard Wyderski, MD, FACP Dr. Wy, why does my doctor want me to check something called my L-P-A? Is it important? Most people know what their LDL “bad” cho- lesterol level is, and people at higher risk for stroke and heart attacks are usually on med- ication to reduce it. We’ve also known about the lipoprotein(a), a.k.a. Lp(a), risk effect for decades, and 1 in 5 people have a high level. Lp(a) is like LDL except it has an attached molecule that makes it much more likely to block arteries than LDL. Everyone has some Lp(a), but people with high levels are at much higher risk for heart attacks and strokes. The elevation is inherited and diet doesn’t lower it. Not many people have had it checked because all knowing would do is increase anxiety. Sometimes a high level would be used to convince a patient to take a medication to lower their LDL cholesterol, which could make a difference. Now knowing your Lp(a) will be more important since medications are now in the pipeline that reduce Lp(a)

levels by 80% or more. Though we know they are very effective lowering the Lp(a) level, we still need proof that they reduce the risk sf strokes and heart attacks more that statin treat- ment alone. In the meantime, the medication ezetimibe added to a statin not only lowers LDL “bad’ cholesterol by an additional 15- 20% but also reduces Lp(a) by 5-10%.
Dr. Wyderski is board certied in both Internal Medicine & Geriatrics, seeing patients from their 50’s to 100 plus years!
For these reasons, the Lp(a) level IS important for us to know, and the higher one’s risk of stroke and heart attack, the more important it becomes. We need all the stroke and heart attack prevention we can get! Please get checked if you’re at risk. You’ll be glad you did! Have a question for Dr. Wy? Please submit it to info@wyderskihealth.com

OLD FLORIDA & ITS HIDDEN GEMS A family getaway on the scenic Captiva Island by Tara Macgillivray
READY FOR RELAXATION A weekend on Captiva Island always feels like stepping into a slower rhythm, but this trip stood out right away because it was a full family vacation. Everyone came along, from adults looking to unwind to kids ready to turn every moment into an adventure. ere’s something about Captiva that makes that kind of mix work perfectly. You don’t need a packed schedule. e island itself gives you more than enough to do. One of the rst things we did ended up being one of the most memorable parts of the entire weekend, especially for the boys. Before the trip, we had spent some time fossil hunting along the Peace River and came away with a ton of real fossilized shark teeth. Instead of just keeping them in a jar or showing them o, we decided to turn it into something a little more fun. Early on our rst morning, before the kids made their way down to the beach, we went out and marked o a small ve foot by ve foot patch of sand. It didn’t look like much, just another part of the shoreline, but we carefully buried the teeth just beneath the surface. e idea was simple. Let them “discover” the fossils on their own and see how it played out.
totally convinced. ey started digging without much direction, just enjoying being in the sand. en one of them paused, reached down, and pulled out a small, dark tooth. Everything changed in that moment. Suddenly it wasn’t just digging anymore. It was a full excavation. ey started working faster, calling each other over every time someone found something new. Each tooth felt like a huge discovery. ey compared shapes and sizes, asked how old they were, and tried to guess what kind of shark they came from. Even though we knew exactly where the teeth were buried, it didn’t take anything away from the experience. Watching their excitement build with each nd made it feel just as real for us. at energy carried into the rest of the day. e beach quickly became the center of everything. It’s wide, clean, and relaxed in a way that makes it easy to spend hours there without even noticing the time passing. People dri in and out, setting up chairs, walking the shoreline, or just standing and looking out at the water. One of the things that kept pulling us back to the edge of the water was the dolphins. We didn’t just see one or two over the course of the weekend. ey were out there constantly. Early mornings seemed to be the best time, when the water was calmer and the beach was quieter, but we also saw them in the evenings as the sun started to drop. ere were moments when they came surprisingly close to shore. You could see their dorsal ns cutting through the water, moving steadily along the coastline. Sometimes continued

that certain parts of the beach were known for fossils and handed them a couple of small shovels. At rst, they didn’t seem

they would surface in pairs or small groups, and every time they did, it drew a reaction from everyone nearby. People would stop mid-conversation or pause their walks just to watch. e kids loved it. Every sighting felt new, even though it kept happening over and over again. When we needed a break from the sun, we made our way to some of the local spots that give Captiva its personality. We stopped at Keylime Bistro, which had that relaxed, open-air feel that ts the island perfectly. It’s the kind of place where you can sit for a while, talk about the day, and not feel rushed. Of course, we had to try the key lime pie, and it didn’t disappoint. We also made time for e Bubble Room, which is an experience all on its own. e moment you walk in, you realize it’s not just a restaurant. It’s full of decorations, bright colors, and little details everywhere you look. It feels almost like stepping into a dierent world. e desserts there are just as memorable as the setting, and it ended up being one of those places everyone talked about aerward. As the weekend went on, a few of us started carving out time for kayak shing, usually later in the day when continued

things had cooled o a bit. Taking a kayak out along the shoreline and into some of the calmer backwater areas added a completely dierent layer to the trip. It’s quieter, more focused, and puts you right in the middle of everything happening in the water. e shing itself turned out to be one of the highlights for me. Over a couple of outings, I managed to catch sea trout, a few hard-ghting ladysh, some saltwater catsh, and even a pompano. Each one brought a dierent kind of challenge. e ladysh were especially energetic, darting and jumping in a way that made them fun to reel in, while the catsh had a more stubborn, steady pull. Being that close to the water made every catch feel more intense. You notice everything more. e movement of the current, the way sh react, even the sounds around you. It also made those unexpected moments stand out even more. At one point while I was out, I caught sight of
a shadow moving beneath the surface and realized it was another shark passing through. Again, not too close, but enough to keep things interesting. Beyond the dolphins, the island had a steady stream of wildlife that made the whole experience feel a little more alive. Birds were always moving along the shoreline, and every so oen something bigger would catch your attention out in the water. One aernoon, we spotted a bull shark cruising through at a distance. It wasn’t close enough to cause concern, but it denitely got everyone talking. It was one of those reminders that the water here isn’t just scenic. It’s part of a larger, active ecosystem.
On the calmer side of things, we saw several families of manatees during the trip. ey moved slowly, almost continued

lazily, just beneath the surface. Every now and then one would come up for air, creating a so ripple before slipping back under. Compared to the quick, playful movement of the dolphins, the manatees felt peaceful and steady. e kids were fascinated by how dierent they were. By the time the trip started winding down, it felt like we had found a good balance between doing things and just being there. Some moments were planned, like the fossil hunt for the kids, and others just happened on their own, like the dolphin sightings or the quiet stretches out on the water. What really stuck with me wasn’t just one big highlight, but how everything came together. e kids laughing as they uncovered shark teeth, the family sitting together aer a long day in the sun, the steady rhythm of the waves in the background, and those unexpected moments out on the water. Captiva has a way of bringing all of that together without feeling forced. By the end of the weekend, no one was ready to leave. It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down without even trying. You wake up with the sun, spend your days outside, and fall into a routine that feels natural almost immediately. And when it’s time to go, you realize how rare that kind of pace really is.

Blue Gallery 31 SW Osceola Street, Stuart FL 34957 | 954-621-6826
Blue Gallery is most interesting when you stop trying to read it as a mood and start reading it artist by artist. e roster is broad, but it is not random. e gallery’s program moves through modern painting, abstraction, pop, sculpture, photography, and dimensional wall work, with a strong concentration of Israeli artists and artists working in that orbit. David Schluss brings one of the gallery’s most recognizable signatures. His paintings are built with his hands rather than brushes or palette knives, which gives the surface a textured, almost sculpted quality. e imagery is lyrical and gurative: musicians, dancers, lovers, and oating characters rendered with soness, movement, and a kind of theatrical quality. Blue Gallery also carries his bronze sculptures, which translate those same elongated, expressive gures into three dimensions with hand-applied patinas. Isaac Maimon works in a very dierent register. His strength is atmosphere. e gallery carries originals on canvas, watercolor originals, the Dream Series, landscapes, giclees, and serigraphs. His compositions revolve around café life and social scenes, with elongated gures and uid line work that feel rooted in European modernism. e palette stays controlled, which is why his work settles so easily into a room. Alex Pauker pushes the eye toward color and motion. His landscapes and sailing scenes are structured but energetic, with saturated tones that carry the composition. His portrait work shis into something more playful, using abstraction, pattern, and bold color relationships. ere is a clear Fauvist inuence in how color drives emotion rather than simply describing form. Sveta Esser sharpens everything. Her work sits within minimalist landscape, but what denes it is her “Pixelism” approach. Color is broken into controlled units, creating gradients and visual depth that feel both digital and painterly. e result is clean, and particularly eective in spaces that need structure.
B lue Gallery is located right in the center of downtown Stuart at 31 SW Osceola Street, Stuart, Florida 34957 . at address matters more than it sounds on paper. Osceola Street is one of those walkable downtown stretches where galleries, boutiques, and restaurants sit within a few blocks of each other, so the gallery naturally ts into an easy, wandering kind of aernoon. You’re not driving out of your way to nd it. It’s part of the ow. As for access, it’s about as straightforward as downtown Stuart gets. ere’s street parking along Osceola and nearby side streets, plus public lots within a short walk, so you’re not circling endlessly or committing to a long trek. You park, step out, and you’re essentially there. Stop in on your way to dinner, wander through for een minutes, or stay longer without it ever feeling like an eort to get there.

Joel Amit moves o the canvas entirely. His work is hand-cut metal wall sculpture, layered and painted to create dimension. Butteries, birds, and hearts are recurring forms, but the real focus is how the pieces interact with light and shadow. ey behave more like installations than traditional wall art. Adriana Naveh introduces a dierent surface altogether with her abstract urban landscapes on lacquered aluminum. e material gives the work a reective, high-gloss nish, and the compositions lean into color and structure rather than gesture. Lenner Gogli’s work, by contrast, soens things again with oral abstraction that sits between realism and expressive painting. From there, the roster expands into more material- driven work. Neil Loeb uses cast paper to create low-relief pop imagery with a tactile surface. Benda builds layered metal constructions that read as optical, industrial pop. Niso Maman works across marble, bronze, steel, and mixed metals, grounding the gallery with more traditional sculptural weight. Rina Maimon and Marc Lipp bring in a brighter, more graphic pop sensibility, while Ron Agam’s kinetic photographic work adds another conceptual layer. Blue Gallery doesn’t try to dene your taste for you, and that’s part of its strength. It oers range, material, and perspective, then steps back and lets you decide what resonates. It will leave you with a sharper sense of how art can shape a space, not just visually, but in how it ultimately feels to live with it.

A Study in Coastal Texture From Comfortable to Collected Refinement
E very coastal home carries its own rhythm, a kind of quiet pulse that moves with the tides and the light. Mine has always been shaped by ease. So whites, pale driwood nishes, slipcovered seating that feels welcoming rather than precious. It is the sort of cottage that has served me beautifully, sun lled and serene, a place where the air always feels a little lighter. And yet, as spring arrives along the shoreline, I nd myself craving something more layered and tactile. e idea truly began, as so many good design ideas do, with inspiration from someone who simply sees things dierently. Jill, one of my closest friends, has immaculate taste in coastal interiors, the kind of instinct that cannot be taught. Her home has always felt like the most graceful interpretation of seaside living, never themed, never overly styled, always eortlessly composed. Back in my own cottage, her inuence lingered as we began thinking about what coastal design looks like this year. Coastal interiors are growing up, moving beyond obvious
motifs and predictable navy stripes into something far more sophisticated. Blue still belongs, of course, but it is no longer bold or declarative. Instead, it is layered and atmospheric, appearing in watercolor like art above a bed, in pillows that shi gently from mist to harbor tones, in textiles that feel collected rather than coordinated. In one bedroom, the soness of shell white walls paired with abstract ocean hues creates a space that feels calming but elevated, like the sea at dusk rather than midday. Even the classic blue and white story has evolved, now told through mixed patterns, embroidery, and subtle botanical accents that add depth without disrupting the quiet. Most noticeable in this year’s direction is the way texture has taken the lead. When palettes are restrained, texture becomes the focus. e most compelling coastal rooms are no longer built on decorative themes, but on tactile richness. Chunky woven pillows in warm sand tones, boucle chairs that invite you to linger, handwoven accents that feel sculptural rather than rustic. Even a simple rope side table beside a tailored armchair can shi a room from

expected to current. Texture is everywhere this season, from nubby throws draped casually across seating to plaster and limewash nishes that add subtle movement to walls, catching the light dierently throughout the day. It is quiet, but it is transformative. Another shi I have embraced is the return of warmer woods. For years, coastal design leaned heavily into pale driwood, airy and safe. But now, richer oak and walnut tones are grounding rooms in a way that feels timeless. A carved wooden credenza with intricate detail suddenly gives presence to an otherwise light space. A natural wood coee table adds depth against creamy upholstery. ese pieces make the cottage feel less like a showroom and more like a home that has been gathered over time. Even in kitchens, the warmth of wood is appearing through barstools, cutting boards styled like art, and organic accents that soen sleek cabinetry. Lighting, too, has become one of the most important design elements of the season. It is no longer something that disappears into the ceiling, but something that denes the room. In kitchens, oversized lantern pendants in brushed brass oat above pale blue islands like jewelry, adding polish without heaviness. Glass xtures with subtle texture catch the light like sea glass. In living rooms, chandeliers bring quiet drama to neutral spaces, reminding us that coastal does not have to mean casual to the point of invisibility. e right lighting creates mood, warmth, and a sense of occasion, even in the most relaxed cottage setting.

Neutrals remain the foundation, but they have become far more nuanced. is season’s coastal palette is built on creamy whites, warm ivories, and so dune tones layered together rather than contrasted sharply. It is ivory against oat, sand against cream, each shade adding dimension. A touch of black, whether in replace trim or matte hardware, sharpens the soness and keeps the space from feeling overly sweet. Neutral does not mean bland. It means intentional restraint, a canvas that allows materials and light to speak. e kitchen, oen the heart of a coastal home, is evolving into something sleeker and more tailored. White cabinetry remains timeless, but islands painted in airy seafoam or so blue add freshness. Geometric tile backsplashes introduce subtle movement, while mixed metals bring modern sophistication. Marble waterfall islands feel sculptural and elegant, designed as much for entertaining as for everyday life. Open shelving is less dominant now, replaced by clean lines and carefully curated surfaces that feel polished yet approachable. Perhaps the most important part of this refresh, though, has been editing. Coastal homes no longer need literal beach accessories to prove their location. e most beautiful spaces this year are composed with fewer, larger pieces that carry presence. An oversized ceramic vessel in matte white, a thoughtfully styled tray, art that suggests the sea through abstraction rather than depiction. Jill’s home embodies this perfectly. Nothing is cluttered. Everything feels chosen. Her tiered candles glowing on the replace, her blooming cactus oering a burst of life, her creamy whites layered with texture, all of it feels like a lesson in restraint. Jill’s palette is a study in luminous whites. Not stark gallery white, but a carefully curated blend of shell, cream, and so alabaster that shis gently with the light. e walls feel

On a nearby console, a Christmas cactus was in full bloom, its vibrant blossoms arching dramatically against the pale backdrop. e vivid coral pink felt intentional, almost painterly, a reminder that a single saturated element can energize an otherwise serene palette. It was not seasonal décor in the traditional sense. It was life, color, and contrast placed thoughtfully within restraint. Her replace, too, oered inspiration. Rather than a single statement piece, she had styled it with tiered levels of candles, varying heights of ivory pillars ickering soly against the clean white surround. e glow added depth, movement, and a subtle sense of ceremony. It transformed the room without adding visual noise. at quiet layering of light glowing in layers against the replace surround, created a mood so evocative it felt worthy of a sweeping coastal romance. is season’s coastal color palettes are far more nuanced than in years past. Blue remains central, of course, but it has soened and deepened simultaneously. e bold navy stripes and predictable maritime contrasts have given way to tonal layering. ink pale mist blue paired with deeper harbor tones, watercolor washes of sea glass and slate, textiles that shi in intensity like the horizon at dusk. In the primary bedroom, I began layering these tones deliberately. In the guest room, the classic blue and white pairing remains, but with a sophisticated twist. Rather than matching patterns, the textiles vary in scale and texture. A navy pillow with subtle geometric stitching sits beside an embroidered ivory cushion, while a botanical print introduces soness. e interplay feels curated rather than coordinated. Beyond blue, this season’s coastal palette leans heavily into warm neutrals. Sandstone, dune, toasted almond, and pale limestone are replacing cooler grays. ese tones add warmth and depth, particularly in open concept spaces where light oods in from multiple angles. Walls painted in creamy shell tones create a cocooning eect, reecting sunlight in a way that feels gentle rather than stark.

Texture, more than any single color, denes the new coastal luxury. e most beautiful rooms I studied this season share a tactile richness that invites touch. Boucle upholstery with its so, looped surface. Slubby linen that wrinkles just enough to feel authentic. Woven jute rugs underfoot that ground airy spaces with organic texture. Even small details matter, such as the coarse weave of a decorative pillow or the matte nish of a ceramic vase. In the living room, I replaced several smooth accent pillows with chunky woven designs in sandy neutrals. e shi was subtle yet transformative. e room immediately felt more dimensional. A rope wrapped side table adds sculptural interest beside the sofa, its organic texture contrasting
with the tailored upholstery. A handwoven throw draped casually across the arm introduces soness and depth.
Warm woods have also returned with condence. For years, I leaned into pale driwood nishes almost exclusively. Now, I nd myself drawn to richer oak and even touches of walnut. A carved wood credenza with intricate detailing anchors one wall, its deeper tone grounding the space. A natural oak coee table adds substance against creamy seating. ese warmer nishes prevent the palette from feeling washed out and add a sense of permanence.

A beautiful waterfront property deserves a dock that looks just as impressive as the home behind it. Yet aer years of sun, salt air, and heavy use, even well built docks begin to show their age. Enter the dock. It’s structurally sound. But the boards are faded to a tired gray. ere are hairline cracks. A few splinters. Evidence of seasons past. It does its job, yet it no longer reects the standard of the home it serves. For many waterfront property owners, this is the moment of hesitation. I am a Widow — by Randy Schaefer Chapman
I fought. I searched for the best doctors, the best treatments, the best chances. I learned the language of survival before I ever wanted to know it. We were lucky, he lived. Not just lived but thrived. We were given twenty-six years of cancer free, that felt like stolen time, sacred and ordinary all at once. And then, without mercy or warning, it returned. e same enemy. e same fear. Only this time, we both knew what it meant. is time there were new protocols to ght his cancer. And ght it we did, still loving, still laughing, fully aware of how precious our time together had become. Perhaps it made our marriage stronger. ere was no room for pettiness or wasted moments. What mattered was clear. What didn’t fell away. I made sure there were family gatherings, moments where he could sit back and simply be. So, he could enjoy his children from another lifetime, see the people he helped shape, and quietly take pride in all he had accomplished. I wanted him surrounded by evidence that his life mattered; that it had been full, meaningful, and deeply loved. ere were trips to exotic places, friendship formed along the way, and albums lled with photographs meant to prove how full our life was. We celebrated oen. We gathered people. We marked time with memories. My world revolved around keeping my husband healthy and happy. He stopped working at sixty. I kept pushing my career forward, believing that someday we would nally slow down and enjoy the life we had built together. But just as that moment seemed within reach, a business associate created an unthinkable situation, one that stopped me cold
I am a WIDOW
e dictionary reduces it to a denition: a woman who has lost her spouse during a marriage and has not remarried. A single word meant to explain an entire life split in two. e Bible goes further. It calls a widow a woman whose husband has died, oen le vulnerable economically precarious, socially isolated stripped of her primary provider and protector. As if the loss can be measured in money, safety and standing. But neither denition captures the quiet devastation. Neither explains what it feels like to wake up every day in a life that no longer ts, carrying a title you never asked for, one that arrived the same moment everything else was taken.
I am a WIDOW
I now check a box on paperwork that asks if I am married, divorced, single or widowed. A small square that holds the weight of a lifetime. Every time I mark it, I am reminded that my soul mate of forty-four years is no longer here for the moments that made our life ours-the laughing and the crying, the shared silence, the sunrise beginnings and the sunset endings we once took for granted. at box doesn’t ask about love. It doesn’t ask about history. It doesn’t ask how a heart survives when half of it is suddenly gone. My husband was diagnosed with cancer at y. I was thirty-four and I was told to get everything in order. As if love could be led, sorted and prepared for an ending. I refused to accept. I was determined not to become a young widow.
