The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is warning residents about a cell- phone service provider scam after receiving reports from across the East Region. In this scam, fraudsters pose as representatives of legitimate cellphone service providers and contact potential victims with offers such as discounts, upgraded plans or new devices. Once they have gained the victim’s trust, the fraudsters may remain on the phone while directing the victim to log in to their legitimate cellphone account. They then request account details, passwords, secu- rity codes or other personal information. In some cases, fraudsters convince victims to open an account with a dif- ferent service provider and obtain a new cellphone or tablet. Victims may be asked to provide identification, such as a driver’s MJDFODFPS4PDJBM*OTVSBODF/VNCFS 4*/ to complete the transaction. After the device is delivered, the frauds- ter may claim that the wrong item was shipped and instruct the victim to send it to another address. Victims can then be left responsible for the cost of the devices and any associated account charges. ROGER EMSLEY Dr. Roger Emsley, of Hawkesbury, originally from England, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the age of 89. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Patricia Emsley (née Kassapian); his cherished children, Jackie (Wayne), the late Michelle, and Helen (Denis) as well as many grandchildren, great- grandchildren, brothers and friends. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Hawkesbury General Hospital for their exceptional care, compassion, and kindness shown to Roger and his family. Roger came to Hawkesbury in the 1970s with his wife and children to begin his medical practice and build a life for his family. Over the years, Hawkesbury became much more than the place where he lived and worked—it became his home. He was deeply proud to call Hawkesbury home and especially grateful for the opportunity to care for generations of local families. A funeral service will be taking place in private. JOHN CHARLES HENNING June 13, 1952 - August 24, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of John Henning (74), at his beloved home on The Ottawa River. John was married to Brenda (Bettridge) (2015) and is survived by his two loving children, Dakota and Yinyang Henning. John was the son of Bert (1988) and Eleanor (1976) Henning and stepson of Isabel Henning (2021). Big brother to Bruce and Mark (Kathleen) Henning and stepsister Anne Pederson, uncle to Matthew and Laura Henning and Hunter Pederson. John was born and raised in Niagara Falls. He later attended the University of Guelph and obtained a doctoral degree in Agricultural Economics. There he met Brenda through mutual friends and realized once she moved off to Oregon to pursue her Master’s, he wanted to build a life with her. After finishing school together in Montreal, they moved to Hawkesbury. John obtained a position at McGill University as a professor & Brenda worked as a child Psychologist for the OCDSB as well as opening a private practice in Hawkesbury. They bought an old farmhouse on Front Road and together turned its restoration into a lifelong passion project. He will be sorely missed by everyone who was blessed enough to have known him at any point throughout his life. Especially by his two children who could never thank him enough for everything. Cremation has taken place and a private family internment will take place. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Hawkesbury District General Hospital Foundation.
