Le défilé de mode Le Cirque d’Embrun, organisé et présenté par les élèves du cours de mode et stylisme d’Isabelle Lecot, de l’École secondaire catholique d’Embrun, a eu lieu le 29 novembre à la Maison des arts. Les étudiantes de 12e année, accompagnées d’un cavalier, ont défilé dans une centaine de robes de bal aussi différentes les unes des autres. Plus de 200 personnes s’étaient déplacées pour l’occasion. La Municipalité de Russell a rendu hom- mage à deux résidents qui ont aidé à sauver la vie d’une femme. La veille du jour de l’An, en décembre 2018, Elaine Bourget sort de chez elle pour prendre l’air et glisse sur une plaque de HMBDF/FQPVWBOUTFSFNFUUSFTVSQJFE elle est restée étendue au sol pendant six heures, dans le froid glacial, blessée et en danger de subir des engelures.She was unable to get back on her feet and lay helpless for six hours in the freezing cold, hurt and in danger of frostbite. Alain Bertrand, qui passait par là tôt le matin du jour de l’An, a vu la femme blessée. Il s’est arrêté pour l’aider. Il s’est précipité chez un voisin et a demandé à Brigitte Lanthier d’appeler le 911. Ils ont ensuite apporté des couvertures pour recouvrir Elaine Bourget. Quels enjeux vont davantage retenir l’attention du député fédéral Francis Drouin de Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, au cours des prochains mois? « Nous avons un grand manque de main d’œuvre », a déclaré d’emblée M. Drouin, lors d’une récente entrevue qu’il accordait à EAP. On a une population grandissante dans l’ouest du comté, mais dans l’est, elle est stagnante. De plus, la population est vieillissante dans l’est. Ainsi, même si sa priorité demeure les infrastructures, Francis Drouin a l’intention de s’attarder davantage au dossier de l’immi- gration francophone. Il souhaite créer des liens avec les pays francophones et veut inviter les ambassadeurs francophones dans la région afin de créer des liens et donc un partenariat entre les communautés. « On se doit de leur faire connaitre notre circonscription. Il faut leur faire comprendre que la francophonie n’existe pas qu’au Qué- bec », a-t-il insisté. Il estime également qu’il faut attirer les familles des centres urbains dans notre région. « La qualité de vie se trouve ici, a mentionné M. Drouin. Mais pour faire venir ces familles, il est essentiel que les munici- palités travaillent ensemble, conjointement. Il faut se démarquer. » À cet effet, l’accessibilité aux réseaux cellulaire et Internet est essentiel. Mais elle n’en est pas au point où elle devrait l’être en 2019, selon le député. « Quand on s’éloigne des municipalités, bien souvent il n’y a pas de connectivité. Il faut que les familles qui s’installent ici retrouvent ce qu’elles avaient à la ville », a-t-il souligné. Enfin, pour le député, le transport en commun est aussi un enjeu de taille. « Il faudrait un transport en commun entre toutes les régions, et ce, jusqu’à Ottawa. On doit prévoir, avoir une approche à notre façon de penser au transport pour Glengarry- Prescott-Russell, Ottawa et Gatineau. Nous avons beaucoup de personnes qui travaillent en ville et on doit leur faciliter la vie. » Chaque vendredi, les députés fédéraux se rencontrent pour discuter de divers dossiers. M. Drouin fera de ses préoccupations une priorité lors de ces réunions.

Comme à son habitude, il a séduit son public venu en grand nombre pour assis- ter à son spectacle interactif à l’Église Saint-Jacques d’Embrun. Grégory Charles, l’artiste aux mille talents, a donné une solide prestation, qui méritait qu’on réserve son après-midi juste pour lui. Dimanche dernier, une heure avant le spectacle de 14 h, on se bousculait aux portes de l’église afin d’obtenir la meilleure place possible. On se serait cru à un show de rock où les admirateurs feraient n’importe quoi pour se rapprocher de leur idole. Plus de 825 personnes, provenant de la région, mais aussi de Gatineau et d’Ottawa, ont pris possession des lieux. Toutes étaient fébriles et excitées à l’idée de voir en chair et en os LE Grégory Charles dont la réputation de chanteur et de musicien n’est plus à faire. Quatorze heures. Il arrive sur scène sous les trombes d’applaudissements de la foule. En première partie de spectacle, qui a, en tout et partout, duré près de deux heures, il a livré des chansons qui ont connu de grands succès dans des années bien précises. Accompagné de son piano, de ses deux guitaristes et de son batteur, il est passé par les années 1940, 1950 et 1960, en projetant dans le passé les spectateurs qui n’ont pas hésité à chanter avec lui. En seconde partie, après une pause de 20 minutes, le public a été plongé dans un esprit de Noël, avec des chansons si bien interprétées. Tantôt drôle, tantôt touchant, et toujours en interaction avec le public, Grégory en aura fait pleurer plusieurs lorsqu’il a parlé de son amie Marie-Soleil Tougas, avec qui il animait les Débrouillards dans les années 1990. Décédée dans un accident d’avion en 1997, Marie-Soleil avait une chanson fétiche, Une peu plus haut, un peu plus loin de Ginette Reno. Lorsque Grégory l’a interprétée, on n’a pas pu retenir nos larmes. Il est allé chercher chaque personne par tant de pro- fondeur, d’amour et de tendresse. Et c’est par une ovation monstre, qu’humblement, il a remercié la foule, les yeux remplis de larmes, assis devant son piano.

président, Laurier Lemieux, était visiblement heureux. « Avec autant de bénévoles qui m’ont aidé dans cette aventure, c’est facile », a précisé M. Lemieux, qui s’est beaucoup investi dans l’organisation de ce spectacle. On
ne sait pas qui sera l’artiste invité l’année prochaine, mais on ne peut que s’attendre à un autre grand succès.

in Memory of Butterfly Child Ambassador Jonathan Pitre. Shannon spent time with young Jonathan during his hospital stays for treatment of epidermolysis bullosa (EB), a genetic skin disorder. “I’ve been doing a benefit concert for the past five years now,” stated Shannon in an email news release to media. “This year we thought bringing the event to Jonathan’s hometown would be a nice way to engage the community in his memory. And it’s a wonderful way to showcase the talent in my backyard. Jonny loved to sing, and so I know he will be with us. I am excited about the event and I look forward to seeing many familiar faces out there.” “Jonathan would be so proud and happy to know that we are all coming together here in his hometown,” stated Tina Boileau, mother of Jonathan Pitre, and president of DEBRA Canada, an organization dedicated to raising funds and public awareness for EB research and treatment. “Jonathan loved the Christmas season, he loved gatherings and was passionate about helping others with EB. He wanted to ensure that the wave of awareness continued, no matter what, and this event is helping to do just that.” Jonathan Pitre died April 4, 2018, after complications related to stem cell treatment he was undergoing in hope of improving his ability to deal with EB, an aggressive skin-blistering condition that is described as “one of the most painful diseases known to medicine.” EB leaves the skin of the person affected, as fragile and delicate as a butterfly’s wing, subject to painful blistering and bruising at the slightest pressure. He became a local celebrity and also became
Jonathan Pitre inspired people all over the world with his courage and optimism in the face of a terrible disease. Now Russell’s “Butterfly Child” has inspired a benefit concert in his memory to help others like him. Russell Township’s own award-winning star on the Canadian music scene, Tara Shannon, is coming home to organize and host this Thursday’s Holiday Benefit Concert

Les Panthères d’Embrun ont connu la victoire contre les Hawks de Winchester, mais il en a été tout autrement contre les Royals de Richmond. Le 6 décembre dernier, Embrun a com- mencé fort en première période en inscrivant le premier but de la rencontre à seulement huit secondes du début. Mais les gardiens des deux équipes ont gardé leur forteresse fermée, limitant le pointage à 1-0 pour Embrun. De retour du vestiaire en deuxième pé- riode, une fois de plus, seul Embrun a profité d’une ouverture pour inscrire le deuxième but de la rencontre, grâce à Nathan Brown, aidé de Maverick Labrie et Carter Peck. La troisième période aura vu les joueurs se buter à l’ardeur des deux gardiens. Malgré tout, les Panthères ont trouvé le fond du filet et prenaient une avance de trois buts à zéro. Les Hawks ont cependant évité le jeu blanc en inscrivant leur seul but de la rencontre à quelques secondes de la fin. Résultat final : 3-1 pour les Panthères d’Embrun. Nathan Brown et le gardien William Nguyen ont respectivement obtenu la première et la troisième étoile du match. Le dimanche 8 décembre, l’équipe d’Embrun s’est frottée à plus fort qu’elle. Contre les Royals, le gardien d’Embrun, Marco Latassa, a bloqué tous les tirs de Les Vikings de Casselman ont perdu des points à leurs derniers matchs, les propulsant maintenant au quatrième rang de la division Martin, derrière les Panthères d’Embrun. Contre les Tikis de Brockville, ils ont connu une bonne séquence de buts, le 5 décembre dernier. Malgré l’opposition des Tikis à rentrer dans leur territoire, Casselman a inscrit le premier but prenant les devants 1-0. Des deux côtés, les gardiens n’ont laissé aucune chance aux joueurs. De retour en deuxième, les Vikings ont rapidement voulu s’imposer en inscrivant leur deuxième but. Mais une minute plus tard, Brockville ripostait avec un tir qui a déjoué le gardien Campbell. Et cinq minutes plus tard, les Tikis égalaient la marque à 2-2. Mais le Viking François Drouin redonnait l’avance aux siens à quelques secondes de la fin de la période. Et la troisième période aura été décisive pour les Vikings. Malgré le but des Tikis, qui ramenait le pointage à 3-3, Casselman a réussi, une fois de plus, à quelques secondes de la fin, à mettre un point final à la rencontre avec une victoire de 4-3. Le 7 décembre, contre les Rebels de Char-Lan, les Vikings ont carrément dominé en première période, malgré l’opposition à laquelle les joueurs ont fait face. ses adversaires. Il en a été de même pour le gardien adverse. Aucun but n’a été compté durant la première période de jeu. En deuxième période, Richmond a littéralement dominé le jeu et Latassa a été considérablement occupé. Il a tout de même laissé passer deux buts, procurant
plus à leur palmarès, augmentant leur avance à cinq buts contre un. Le dernier but de la rencontre a été le fuit de Tristan Taillefer, son 21e, mais cela n’a pas suffi aux Panthères pour rejoindre leurs adversaires sur la grille des buts. Marque finale : 5-2 pour Richmond.
