Le montant total du salaire et des indem- nités payé à Gatien a été de 238 224 dollars. Il a également reçu 35 000 dollars en rem- boursement pour les frais de justice dans la négociation avec la municipalité sur les indemnités de départ. En plus du 35 000 dollars payé à l’avocat de l’ex-directeur, la municipalité a égale- ment dû débourser 99 609 dollars pour ses propres frais d’avocat à la suite de plu- sieurs mois de négociation. La facture totale s’élève donc à 372 834 dollars. Le maire a précisé que les frais de justice de la municipalité sont plus élevés par rapport à ceux de Gatien parce que la ville
a sollicité les services d’un médiateur pour conclure une entente finale. Une autre rai- son, explique le maire, est que le conseiller Guy Desjardins et lui, responsables du dossier au nom du conseil, ont tenu plu- sieurs réunions avec le conseiller juridique de la municipalité. Le dossier a nécessité un examen approfondi afin de répondre aux questions des conseillers municipaux. Il aura fallu plusieurs mois avant que ces renseignements soient divulgués. La municipalité invoquait des motifs de con- fidentialité entre les deux partis. Dans son rapport remis à la municipa- lité, l’Ombudsman de l’Ontario a fait remarquer que cette information était d’or- dre public. Lors de l’assemblée ordinaire du 13 février, le conseiller Bernard Payer avait également présenté au conseil une courte lettre de Daniel Gatien attestant que ce dernier n’avait aucune objection à ce que les détails de l’entente soient dévoilés. Ce n’est qu’à la suite d’une rencontre avec le conseiller juridique que le conseil a con- venu de divulguer les montants. Search of Ottawa River for missing man suspended

A spokesman for the OPP search-and-recovery team noted that the Ottawa River tends to be murky below the surface. The bad ice conditions and poor visibility combined present a challenge for divers. The tragic accident took place on the Québec side of the Ottawa River. A spokesman for the Papineauville detachment of le Sûreté du Québec announced Monday a temporary halt to the underwater search because of river and ice conditions. Hudon was the owner-operator of the Clarence Point Resort on Clarence Island, also known as Fox Island. He opened the resort in 2009 with the goal “to ease access for local fishermen as well as tourists” as stated on the Facebook page for the facility. His resort provided local anglers with a place to store their ice-fishing sheds during the off-season and every year since he launched the resort, Hudon sponsored a family ice fishing tournament. Friends and family recalled Hudon as a warm-hearted, fun person, fond of music, keen on fishing and familiar with the Ot- tawa River. In thewake of the tragedy, the Clarence- Rockland Fire Department issued a repeat of a warning sent out earlier in February to snowmobilers, ATV riders and anyone else to stay off both the Ottawa River and other streams and lakes in the region. The past warm weather for the month is expected to continue into March and ice conditions are not considered safe now.

Police have called a temporary halt to their search efforts to locate a missing man, presumed drowned, who vanished into the icy waters of the Ottawa River last Friday. Meanwhile the family and friends of Michel Hudon, 50, mourn the loss of a vibrant member of the Clarence-Rockland community and its winter sports scene. Hudon and two other men — Alain Masson and Patrick Leroux —were riding in a utility task vehicle (UTV) on their way to an ice fishing site on the Ottawa River on Feb. 24 when they were caught in the snow storm blowing its way through Eastern Ontario. They became disoriented and then the UTV went through the river ice near the Clarence Point Ferry route. Éric Seguin was riding with the party on a snowmobile. Using a rope, Seguin was able to help Masson and Leroux get out of the water. They all then tried to rescue Hudon but he had vanished beneaththewater.Leavingthesnowmobile behind to mark where the ice had broken, the three men walked for 20 minutes through the blinding blizzard before they found other anglers on the river who A man from The Nation has a date in L’Orignal next month to talk to a judge about his driving habits. The township is also dedicating $59,600 this year towards renovation work on the Plantagenet community hall and $59,000 towards the Alfred public library for a bu- siness plan for the new library building and the staff to man it. Wendover benefits from this year’s bud- get through $240,000 set aside for purchase of a new tanker truck and self-contained breathing units for village’s fire protection service. The township will take out a bank loan for the fire truck. The public works department has dedicated almost $420,000 for road buil- ding in this year’s budget with about $318,000 allocated for Concession 3 in Plantagenet. The remainder is split up between road improvement for Ottawa returning to her home town to start a restau- rant. One of the strongest memories she has about the Laurentides is all the flower beds setupalongthemainstreet.Itmadethearea more attractive to tourists and she wants to see the same benefit for Alfred. J’ai rencontré Michel Hudon pour la première fois il y a deux ans, lorsque mon fils loua de ce dernier une cabane à pêche (plutôt pour sortir papa et maman de la maison, je crois). Michel venait tout juste de lancer son entreprise, Clarence Point Resort. Il voyait à l’installation des cabanes et leur retrait en fin de saison, l’entretien des chemins, la vente des ménés, la sécurité des clients et de leurs biens etc. Dès le départ, et au fil de la première saison, Michel démontra qu’il était sérieux dans son affaire, qu’il s’engageait à tout faire pour qu’on puisse passer de beaux moments dans son petit village. Évidemment, la tâche n’était pas facile, demandant beaucoup d’ouvrage et de patience. Il se montra pourtant toujours disponible et de bonne humeur. Rappelons-nous qu’il ne s’agit guère de faire fortune dans une si petite entreprise. On s’y engage la plupart du temps pour partager une passion personnelle, par exemple la pêche, l’aventure en plein air ou pour s’impliquer tout simplement avec le public. La mort inattendue et tragique de Michel, bon travaillant, toujours souriant, m’a beaucoup bouleversé. Ce qu’il a mis en marche à Clarence Point mérite une suite réussie et notre soutien. En terminant, je me joins sûrement à tous les habitués de pêche sur glace ainsi que de nombreux autres qui ont connu ce bel homme pour offrir mes sincères sympathies à sa famille et ses proches Clifford Colbourne (retraité qui aime la pêche) Rockland

Robocall scandal spreads into Ottawa-Orléans vision@eap.on.ca Orléans
at the time condemning the incidents. The pattern of the phone calls seems to match the growing robocall campaign scandal that is now tainting the Conservative majority election win. The Bertschi campaign reported to Elections Canada three dozen complaints from Liberal supporters about phone calls, some automated and others with a live speaker. Jim Watson. “Smoking-related illnesses continue to strain our health-care system and it is important that we renewour efforts to reduce smoking rates.” The expanded public smoking ban follows a report requested from the city’s BoardofHealthlastSeptemberforanupdate on municipal smoke-free regulations. The public health office did a three-month pu- blic consultation of residents and the business sector. The results indicated pu- blicsupportforexpandingtheanti-smoking policy. The city will launch a public awareness and warning campaign in April on the expanded smoking ban. Enforcement will begin in July.
But the final announcement of Galipeau’s victory did not come until late into the election night tallying of votes. Now details are surfacing of an official complaint filed to Elections Canada in April, two weeks before the election final polling day, of harassing and misleading calls to Liberal supporters. The Bertschi campaign office also issued a press release encouraging a reduction in smoking rates among its residents. The existing anti-smo- king regulations dealing with restaurants, bars, municipal buildings, and other pu- blic places will expand this year to cover all municipal sites as well as outdoor restau- rant patio sites. “These steps will help protect residents, families, and children from second-hand smoke, while at the same timemake Ottawa aleaderinsmoke-freespaces,”statedMayor Concession 10 in Plantagenet, in an area that was part of the former North Plantagenet Township area. The site covered under the request includes parts of lot 9 and lot 10, Conces- sion 9. The land is zoned Agricultural. The owner wants part of the two lots rezoned Mineral Aggregate Resource to allow operation of a sand pit. A presentation on the request was made during the public hearing. There were no objections or questions heard about the rezoning demand or the planned use for the site. The request was tabled for a 20-day period to allow for public response. No objections were filed during the response period so council approved a lo- cal bylaw supporting the rezoning request. The matter is now referred to the United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) for final review and approval. The UCPR oversees the Official Plan for land use in the entire Prescott-Russell region.
The automated, or robocalls, were identified as from the 701 area code in North Dakota. This matches the profile of the current robocall scandal about alleged Conservative partisan interference with the federal election. The live callers who phoned Liberal supporters in Ottawa-Orléans are alleged to have identified themselves as either representatives for the Liberal Party of Ca- nadaorasElectionsCanadaofficials.Those claiming to represent the party then told the people they called not to vote for Bertschi. Those callers claiming to be with Elections Canada told voters their polling station location was changed and gave them directions to another site which later proved incorrect. In some cases the false polling station location was 30 minutes away from the actual site. Bertschi has condemned the situation, saying that it taints any riding election result where it occurs. Galipeau has stated that none of his campaign workers would have taken part in such behaviour. He also expressed doubt that any such fraudulent calls were received in the riding prior to last year’s federal election.
One of the tight-race ridings in the last federal election is now the focus of the robocall scandal spotlight. Conservative incumbent Royal Galipeau retained his hold on the Ottawa- Orléans riding in the 2011 spring election against Liberal challenger David Bertschi.

No objections were heard during a recent municipal council hearing on a rezoning request that would allow a sand pit operation in the Curran/Pendleton area of Plantagenet. So now the matter rests while the counties review on the matter continues.
