Candidates for seats on Russell Township council can post their cam- paign signs along public roads around the township. Mayor Pierre Leroux wants to avoid “a media circus” over a threat by legal counsel for Charles Armstrong, one of the mayoral candidates, for a possible court injunction against the township concerning revisions earlier this year to the municipal signage bylaw. The revisions had restricted election campaign signage to private property and banned it from public roadsides. “I don’t want to waste taxpayers’ money,” said Leroux, following the end of the August 29 United Counties of Prescott Russell ses- sion (UCPR). Leroux also asked for and got agreement from counties council to ignore a previous request from Russell Township for revision of the UCPR signage bylaw to also forbid election campaign signage along county roads. Instead, Leroux suggested, counties council could consider revising its bylaw “to respect municipal bylaws on the issue.” Armstrong stated during a later interview that «there was no legal suit, as such», but that his attorney had sent letters to both the township and the counties stating that the election signage restrictions in the bylaw «were not constitutional, and if they did not reverse them, we would challenge them

Ce projet, qui a été rendu possible grâce à l’obtention de subventions des paliers provincial et fédéral, est le résul- tat d’un travail de longue haleine a expliqué Mme Martel. « C’est du travail acharné d’une dizaine d’années pour réussir à obtenir les fonds de tous les niveaux », a-t-elle partagé. Parmi les 24 nouvelles unités, 14 d’entre elles seront des logements abordables. Un logement abordable signifie que le loyer à payer par les locataires sera établi à 80 % du taux du marché immobilier actuel.
L’électricité et le chauffage sont inclus dans le coût et certains appareils ménagers sont fournis. Il y aura également trois apparte- ments qui seront destinés aux personnes handicapées. L’édifice actuel du Centre J. Urgel Forget, qui a été bâti en 1986, comprend 45 appar- tements. Ceux-ci sont une combinaison entre des logements abordables et des logements subventionnés. Le loyer de ces derniers est déterminé selon le revenu familial de ses occupants.
Le Centre J. Urgel Forget pourra accueil- lir des locataires dès février 2019 dans ses 24 nouvelles unités. « Il y a un besoin urgent pour les per- sonnes âgées », a déclaré Francine Martel, gestionnaire immobilière du Centre J. Premier Doug Ford’s “buck a beer” challenge marked its official start August 27, but just three Ontario’s breweries picked up the gauntlet and now it’s down to two after the Labour Day weekend. Loblaw’s President’s Choice, and two small independent brewers, Barley Days and Cool Beer Brewing offered their beers at a dollar in return for premium shelf space at the LCBO, and special promotion of their products in the LCBO official magazine. But Loblaw’s has now stepped away after running through most of its shelf inventory over the September long weekend. Also not all LCBO outlets stock the dollar- beer brands. C’est pour la communauté, c’est une façon de finir notre été », s’est exprimé l’un des organisateurs de la journée Crysler Fun Day et vice-président du Centre communautaire de Crysler, Luc Breton. Des activités pour toute la famille étaient prévues lors de cette journée bien spéciale ! Parmi celles-ci, on comptait un tournoi de fer à cheval, où 16 équipes composées de deux joueurs se sont affrontées tout en s’amusant. The Kin Club of Russell was recognized nationally as having the best service project of the year. The Russell Township Sports Dome project was named best service project of the year August 17 at the Kin Canada national convention in Sarnia. The Kin Club of Russell was also recognized with Cystic Fibrosis Canada’s Bill Skelly Award for its Catch The Ace project in which funds from this lottery were directed to cystic fibrosis research. Earlier in that day, the Kin Club of Russell was also recognized as having won the Outstanding Club Award, the Ken Pierce Membership Award (for growth), the Outstanding Boake Efficiency Award (for administration efficiency). Individual awards were also handed out to the Kin Club’s members; Maya Desrosiers won the Outstanding Maple Leaf Award and Doug Anthony won five GEM Awards (awarded for sponsoring three new members in a one-year period). Nationally, Kin Canada celebrated raising over $20 million for its communities last year and as well having reached the $46 million plateau of donations to Cystic Fibrosis Canada. Avonmore 4H dairy calf rally, a bike tour on the trails of the Larose Forest with a picnic and an historical briefing, Calypso, a visit of some of the local farms (Dignard Rabbittry, Luchtenberg’s goat farm, Laviolette Egg farm, St-Albert Cheese Factory and Rosenhill Dairy Farm). Along with the collaboration of the South
/BUJPOBOEUIF):PVUI4FSWJDF-FBEFST (Hands to Larger Service program), the group’s community day in the region was TQFOUBUUIF8&#VSUPO1BSLJO3VTTFMM Participants refurbished and built new ar- rangements near the signs, did a cleanup of the park and put some gravel in designated areas of the path.
This year, Russell County’s application for a Club to Club exchange was se- lected and 10 4H’ers, ages 12 to 17, were matched with Drumheller District, Alberta. The exchange’s purpose was to enable 4H members to travel outside their province and discover the historical, geographical and cultural diversity of our country, as well as get a hands-on opportunity to do some volunteer community work through the HLS program.
The Russell group welcomed their Alberta twins in the region in the second half of July. Highlights of the experience included Parliament Hill, changing of the guard, Rideau )BMM #ZXBSE.BSLFU 8BS.FNPSJBM -BEZ%JWF guided bus-boat experience, Ottawa Haunted walk, Science and Tech museum, a day at

Pour souligner le 10 e anniversaire du Groupe de services communautaires Kawabunga, celui-ci s’est associé avec différents partenaires de la région pour offrir des bourses permettant à des jeunes de participer à leurs camps d’été. « Il y a toujours des familles qui sont moins nanties et qui veulent participer à nos camps. On a essayé de trouver des moyens pour les aider », a expliqué René Laflèche, président du conseil d’administra- tion du Groupe de services communautaires Kawabunga. Ainsi, la Banque Scotia de Casselman a remis près de 5000 $ au Groupe de services communautaires Kawabunga. Cela a permis à 30 enfants de la région de participer aux camps d’été offert par le groupe cette année. Le Comptoir populaire Deguire a de son

Le groupe de services communautaires Kawabunga est un organisme à but non lucratif établi dans la région depuis 2008. Au cours des dernières années, le groupe a étendu ses services dans la région et offre des camps à Casselman, Rockland, Hawkesbury et Alexandria. Le groupe cherche à répondre aux besoins sociocommunautaires et éducatifs en offrant différents services à la communauté de Prescott Russell, dont des camps de tous HFOSFTBVYKFVOFTEFBOTÆBOTEVSBOU MFTDPOHÊTTDPMBJSFT /PÌM SFMÄDIFEFNBST vacances d’été); des services de soutien TDPMBJSFQPVSMFTÊUVEJBOUTEFUPVTÄHFT (avancement scolaire); ainsi que différentes activités aux personnes à besoins spéciaux.
Cette année, la candidature du comté de Russell du groupe 4-H pour un échange interclubs a été sélectionnée et 10 des 4-H de 12 à 17 ans ont été jumelés au district de Drumheller, en Alberta. Après leur voyage en Alberta, le groupe de Russell a accueilli leurs jumeaux albertains dans la région, au cours de la deuxième quinzaine de juillet. Avec la collaboration de la Nation Sud et du programme 4-H (Mes Mains au service de ma communauté), la journée de travail communautaire s’est déroulée au parc W.E. J’ai aussi remarqué qu’il y a plusieurs filles qui participent aussi! » L’Endurocross en est à sa deuxième année et à en juger par le nombre de parti- cipants, celui-ci sera de retour l’an prochain.
Le son de petits moteurs a percé le silence de la campagne, tout près de Limoges, les 1 er et 2 septembre derniers. « Les gens viennent de partout pour participer à notre Endurocross, a expliqué fièrement Hubert Lacroix, propriétaire de Valley Supersport et de la piste Valley Supersport MX Track et organisateur de l’évènement.
