During the original reconfiguration of the light poles, curb and sidewalk were built at the wrong location. The result was the turning lane was not wide enough for freight transport trucks to make safe right-hand turns off the High- way 417 eastbound off-ramp onto Rockdale Road. Transports often ended up crossing into the left-turn lane while maneuvering for a right-hand turn, creating potential accident situations.
Motorists getting on and off Highway 417 at the Rockdale Road exchange in Russell Township will continue to depend on the present stop sign traffic control setup for a little longer. Plans are delayed for a set of traffic lights at the site. Ontario Ministry of Transport crews had erected a set of traffic control lights earlier this year, as part of a revamping of the JOUFSDIBOHFEFTJHOBUUIFPWFSQBTT&SSPST in the reconfiguration have forced removal of the traffic lights and a return to the stop sign control setup.

township council during the Monday public session is that the City of Ottawa could end up with all five of the retail location licences GPS&BTUFSO0OUBSJPGPSOFYUZFBS Financial carrot The provincial policy guarantees that every Ontario municipality will get about $5000 to help them with some of the preparation nee- ded for updating bylaws, training any staff, and other expenses that will result when recreational marijuana sales move from the online access only setup now, through the provincial government, to public sales outlets next year. The amount of recreational marijuana sales is expected to increase, though both retail outlets and users must still follow provincial and federal regulations dealing with marijuana sales and smoking. A municipality that opts out, and thus will not allow retail marijuana outlets within its bounds, will receive another $5000 payment from the province to help with initial costs to prepare for the increased availability and use of recreational marijuana within its area. Those that opt in may get a share in future provincial marijuana sales tax revenue. This incentive under the provincial canna- bis retail policy depends on how much the government collects in marijuana sales tax over the next two years. If the total amount of sales tax collected is more than $100 million at the end of 2020, then the province will share half of the surplus amount among those municipalities which opted in. If the provincial tax revenue from marijuana sales is less than $100 million, no matter how small the difference, then there is no surplus for the province to share. Casselman and The Nation Municipality The Village of Casselman will be voting on the same topic on January 10 while The /BUJPO.VOJDJQBMJUZXJMMTVSWFZJUTSFTJEFOUT over the next few weeks via social media. Marijuana stores will be welcome in Russell Township. Russell Township council approved, in a 3-2 split-decision registered vote December 17, to opt in to the provincial government’s new policy for allowing marijuana sales outlets to set up shop in Ontario municipa- lities. Councillors Jamie Laurin and Cindy Saucier voted against the opt-in resolu- tion, expressing concern over the lack of municipal control or input allowed under the provincial government’s cannabis retail policy, especially where it concerns approval of locations for marijuana retail stores. i/PDIJMETIPVMECFBCMFUPXBML PSSJEF in front of that store on their way to school and back,” said Councillor Laurin, regarding possible weaknesses in the policy’s guide- lines barring marijuana stores from setting up near schools. The provincial government announced that it would allow just 25 approved cannabis retail outlets in Ontario next year, because of the current shortage of supply for recreational marijuana in Canada. Kassandra Stevenson, 13 ans, de Russell, a toujours voulu faire une différence dans la vie des sans-abri, car chaque fois qu’elle se rend à Ottawa, elle en voit beaucoup et se sent mal. « Quand je reviens à la maison, j’ai un toit, j’ai un lit pour dormir, j’ai des vêtements chauds, j’ai de la nourriture, de l’éducation. Je ne trouve pas ça juste que d’autres près de nous soient sans abri et seuls », a-t-elle expliqué. En discutant avec sa mère, l’idée lui est venue d’organiser une collecte de vêtements et de fonds pour apporter un peu de joie dans le cœur de ces personnes. Cinq de ses amies ont trouvé l’idée géniale et se sont donc jointes à elle. Pendant un mois, elles n’ont jamais arrêté. Début novembre, Kassandra a rapidement lancé un message sur sa page Facebook expliquant le projet qu’elles aimeraient réaliser. Beaucoup de personnes ont com- menté positivement et plusieurs ont fait des

Il tient à rendre hom- mage à deux personnes spéciales pour les membres de la troupe. « Toute l’équipe de la Caféthèque désire remercier, pour leur travail acharné, Marcel Brault et Sylvie Larivière, qui ont collaboré à plus de 20 spectacles au courant de leur carrière. Merci pour votre engagement auprès de la troupe. »
La pièce de théâtre de La Caféthèque, Ni vu, Ni connu, de l’École secondaire catholique de Casselman (ESCC), a attiré plus de 500 personnes lors de ses trois soirs de représentations la semaine dernière. Pour sa 32 e édition, la troupe en a mis plein la vue aux spectateurs qui sont ressor- tis satisfaits de cette soirée. L’histoire se passait à la Lunetterie Bellevue, qui baignait dans l’ambiance des Fêtes à l’approche du party de Noël. Une journée qui s’annonçait comme toutes les autres avec l’entrée en scène de clients colorés, mais qui a pris soudainement une tournure dramatique : la criminalité s’est invitée et a bouleversé le train-train quotidien. Pour les élèves faisant partie de la troupe, les répétitions ont été longues. Mais cela en a valu la peine puisque tous ont offert un jeu remarquable dans des costumes hors du commun et maquillés de main de maître. Plus de 700 élèves de l’ESCC l’ont vue en avant-première, sans oublier les 40 élèves des écoles nourricières. La Caféthèque a été fondée en 1976 et traîne derrière elle 42 ans d’histoire. La troupe compte 60 élèves et 15 membres du personnel. Elle offre des spectacles mul- tidisciplinaires comme le théâtre, le chant, l’harmonie et la danse. Martin Carrière, L’éducateur diplômé sera sous la responsabilité de la gérante du service de garde et sera responsable de la prestation d’un programme éducatif, y compris des activités axées sur le développement des enfants, leur santé, leur sécurité et leur bien-être et assurer une gestion professionnelle et efficace de la programmation et des activités du service.
