A resident of Cornwall is hoping a petition she started on Change.org garners enough signatures to make the city’s transit ser- vices offer bus routes on Sundays. “We need to have buses running on Sun- days in Cornwall in order for people to get to and from work and church,” explained Kamala Wright. “It is very hard to get from one end of town to the other by walking, especially if you have to be on your feet all day at work.” As of July 15, the petition had 341 signa- tures, with several individuals citing their need for transportation on Sundays. “I need to get to work,” said Blair Rombough. “Wal- king from Montreal Rd. to Boundary Rd., then working 12 hours and walking back gives me less quality time to spend with my wife and kids. In the winter months, it’s horrible.” But although Glen Tapp, divisionmana- ger for the Transit department of Cornwall,

does feel sympathetic towards residents, he does explain that introducing a Sunday service just wouldn’t work for the city. “As a transit person, I would love to see an expansion of Cornwall Transit in many areas including Sundays, so does the Transit Committee,” commented M. Tapp. “Com- munities that do provide Sunday service usually have a university or a large college.” There are many things to consider when implementing such a service: supervision, support personnel (mechanics and coach attendants), additional buses, fuel andmain-
tenance cost, snow removal and increased vehicle insurance cost. “The bus service has been running late most weekday afternoons between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.,” highlighted Tapp. “Staff are exploring options to alleviate this concern because it is having an effect on ridership. Options such as express routes, 15-minute service on some routes or extra buses to be used as needed during the problem hours could help. The solution must be found through efficiencies in the present system which limits options.” conservateur lors de la dernière élection fédérale, habite dans la circonscription depuis maintenant 24 ans et elle travaille comme avocate dans une clinique juridique. and aren’t interested in proving they are real. “It needs to be said that although actual, true hauntings are rare, they do happen,” highlights the duo’s website. “True hauntings are usually tied to a specific location or an issue that the spirit was unable to resolve during their lifetime.” Although everything seems to never go without problems, some properties can be challenging, as the duo learned, during one of their cleansings. “We have had a few very interesting occurrences happen during a couple of our cleansing ceremonies, but I believe the most interesting one took place not in a client’s house but out in their garage,” described Hudson. “When we stepped in- side, we could immediately feel the presence of something of a very low vibration that
was watching us and clearly didn’t want us invading its space. Now, you must unders- tand that this took place on a calm, sunny day but themoment we stepped inside, the door slammed shut on Amanda’s leg and the owner was left standing outside.” The two women then advised the homeowner to stay outside and soon after, “the entire building began to shake, as if the entity within was trying to scare and intimidate us.” When asked what homeowners should be looking for when considering a house cleansing, the Reverend explains that “if anyone feels the need for us to come and assess their environment, we’ll do so and make our recommendations at that point.”
FRANCIS RACINE francis.racine@eap.on.ca
But just how exactly does a house clean- sing work? According to Hudson, the duo will first inquire about what exactly the homeowner has been experiencing. “Then, we email thema questionnaire, which goes into more detailed questioning about their experiences,” said the Reverend. An in-person visit by the team then takes place so they can assess the home, get past history and speak with all members

a combination of a lot of different steps,” Hudson expressed. “Such as establishing a protection circle, the lighting of candles, different incenses and smudgingmaterials, along with the use of blessed water and salt to cleanse any negative energy from the house.” But Hudson is quick to point out that Van Overbeek and herself aren’t ghost hunters
“We have been cleansing negative ener- gies frompeople for the past 15 years during our many healing workshops, one-on-one client sessions and in our healing school,” explained Hudson. “We’ve done literally hundreds of cleansings so it was a natural step to then extend it out into property clean- sings since there’s no difference.”

A local cadet is taking part in a three-week Military Band program for Sea Cadets, held in Kingston. Kaitlyn Ade, a cadet fromRoyal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Stormont in Cornwall, is part of the Basic Musician Course which welcomes Sea Cadets from communities across the province. Many of the young men and women on the basic level course come to Kingston with no experience in music at all. Yet, within days of arrival, they are taking part in the centre’s morning parades, achieving music levels and putting on public performances. The course is held twice over the course
of the summer. The first crew performed live at the Elgin Days parade, while Ade’s group will be putting on a concert in Gananoque in early August. All of themusicians also take part in spe- cial classes to broaden their musical expo- sure. The cadets will study Electronic Dance Music with a professional DJ, and attending a Big Band Concert. This helps them have a greater appreciation of the different kinds of music available to them and stimulates their creativity. Once their course is complete, these young musicians will go back to their own units.

Harboring a 305, the machine is quite loved by McLaughlin, who purchased it not even a year ago. “I bought it during Father’s Day weekend,” he said. Originally sporting a 400, the prior owner changed in order to install a 267. But McLaughlin explained that the engine was burning oil when he purchased it. “It’s pretty solid,” explained the owner. “I bought it here in Cornwall and other than changing the motor, I didn’t really have to do anything to it.”
