desk setup “does not offer good control of the comings and goings at the complex” to ensure that people coming into the building use the sanitizer station set up at the main entrance and also practice social distancing in the common areas. The report also noted “there is no control over the comings and goings of each of the rooms, therefore it is not possible to know if the maximum number of people (allowed) has been reached without doing a manual count.” The problem is critical for ensuring public health safety for the gymnasium, pool, and arena areas. Suggested changes to the facility included in the consultant’s report includes retrofits to the main entrance doors, stereoscopic cameras at the entrances to the different rooms to help keep track of the number of people going in and out of the rooms and issue a warning alert if there are any “gathering size” problems, and a review of the sports complex’s HVAC to make sure it meets current pandemic health safety needs. The deadline for CVRIS applications if just one project is involved is December 21. Work on any approved projects must begin by September 30, 2021 and be finished by December 31, 2021. Following discussion on other munici- pal infrastructure work that could benefit from CVRIS funding, council voted to focus Hawkesbury’s application on financial aid for the sports complex retrofit.
A solution to some pandemic safety issues at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex can be fixed if the Town of Hawkesbury can get a little financial help from the province. “This is an opportunity,” said Mayor Paula Assaly, during the November 30 council ses- sion. The provincial and federal governments are offering funding help for critical municipal infrastructure work under the COVID-19 Resi- lience Infrastructure Stream fund (CVRIS). The funding covers costs for retrofit work on community, recreational, school, or hospital and other health service facilities to deal with public health safety issues related to COVID-19. Examples of possible work that would qualify for CVRIS funding include heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems (HVAC) to improve filtration of dust particles that could carry the virus through the air. Eli- gible work also includes signage on walking trails to promote social distancing by users. Hawkesbury can apply for up $175,213 in CVRIS funding aid. Municipal administration recommends applying for help to cover costs for retrofitting work at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex to deal with public health issues related to COVID-19. Ontario’s Long-Term Care Commission has called for the return of annual inspections, as well as more stringent enforcement of compliance, at facilities across the province in an interim report. The commission’s findings, released on Friday were the second set of interim recom- mendations suggesting immediate or rapid action as COVID-19 continued to affect long- term care homes across the province. The recommendations came as the Prescott and Russell Residence in Hawkesbury entered its tenth week in outbreak. As of Friday, 14 residents had died from COVID-19 at the long-term care home. Eighty- five of the 109 resident cases had been resolved, as had 66 of the 68 staff cases. No new cases were reported last week, but health authorities continued to monitor the situation. The three-person commission said the province should resume annual resident quality inspections (RQI) for all long-term care homes, as well as hire new inspectors to address that need. Almost all 626 homes were inspected in 2017, but that figure had dropped to just 37 by 2019 after requirements were relaxed the previous year. “This reduction in RQIs which are intended to provide a holistic review of operations in the homes left the Ministry with an

facility. “The current six clinical indicators tracked in the LTC home performance reports, such as the percentage of residents who fell, experienced pain or were physically restrained, are a good first step in advancing transparency and flagging issues in homes,” the report said. “From a quality of care perspective, homes should monitor and report on other indicators that would provide additional important information to residents, families and the general public and against which homes can be assessed.” The commission has been asked to pres- ent a final report and recommendations by April 30 next year.

A new service has been launched to provide more discreet, secure ways for women experiencing domestic violence in Prescott-Russell to access support. Maison Interlude House (MIH) set up the Unsafe at Home service to provide extra outlets for women and children who found themselves even more vulnerable during the pandemic. Instead of calling, victims could access a secure chat session online or via text message with a qualified Maison Interlude House employee. MIH outreach services supervisor Linda Smith said many victims of violence had spent almost all their time with their abusers during the pandemic when travel outside the home was discouraged. One of Hawkesbury’s high-tech sector companies is testing the results of a new project that will be a big help for health and emergency personnel during on-site disaster situations. Tulmar Safety Systems Inc. has developed a portable inflatable emergency shelter that a single person can carry to an emergency scene and be ready for use within minutes. “It comes in a bag,” said Patrick J. Tallon, Tulmar president and chief operating officer.

Beau’s Brewing Co. and Dunrobin Distilleries’ partnership to produce hand sanitizer during the pandemic was recognized at an Ottawa awards ceremony last week. The two companies won the Best Performance - Social Entrepreneurship category at the Best Ottawa Business awards ceremony last week. The brewery and distillery received the award for their efforts to develop, then donate, hand sanitizer to more than 25 hospitals and not-for-profit organizations over the past six months. Neither company had developed hand sanitizer prior to the COVID-19 outbreak earlier this year. Dunrobin supplied a still for Beau’s Vankleek Hill brewery, which allowed the sanitizer to be produced at the business immediately. The sanitizer was produced in both per- sonal and bulk four-litre quantities. Those sales supported the continued donation of the supplies to hospitals and not-for-profit groups in the region. “The hand sanitizer produced by Beau’s and Dunrobin is of a very high quality, and the innovative thinking has allowed
The company used the automotive wind tunnel at the University of Oshawa to test the prototype’s ability to withstand extreme wind conditions and cold temperatures. The prototype was also load-tested and proved capable to sustaining a snow load weight of 250 kilograms (550 pounds). Verkuylen noted that the pandemic made the portable shelter “a top priority” project. Tulmar officials are quite happy with the results so far. “It’s early days still,” said Tallon, “but we’re very encouraged.” Once beta testing of the prototype is finished, Tulmar’s portable shelter will be available for use during emergencies as a command post, a shower-and-decontamina- tion hut for personnel having to deal with a hazardous waste incident, as a drive-through COVID-19 testing centre, or whatever other use might be required. Tulmar has already received an inquiry from an American firm based in Chicago that deals in medical resources and supplies distribution. That company wants to add the Tulmar shelter to its “hurricane season” emergency equipment catalogue. “Right away, they thought it would be perfect for hurricane season,” said Tallon.

The pandemic prompted the com- pany to resurrect and revise a past attempt at developing a portable emergency shelter. “When the pandemic hit in March,” Tallon said, “we started getting inquiries about portable shelters for hospitals.” Several years ago the company had tried to develop a portable inflatable emergency shelter and was successful with its original design. The problem then was that the produc- tion process itself took at least a month to assemble one shelter. All the separate fabric pieces had to be glued together and the glue required time to set. Technological improvements since then allowed Tulmar engineers Lee Verkuylen, project leader, and Eric Westelaken and the rest of the team to speed up production through use of hot air-welding the various pieces together. What used to take a month now took just days. The company can now produce shelters fast and in sufficient quantities to meet almost any emergency needs order.

Noël et le temps des Fêtes sont les périodes de l’année où l’amour, l’amitié, les échanges et le partage sont à l’honneur! C’est le temps des réjouissances et souvent on ne regarde pas à la dépense. Tous ont le cœur sur la main et sont prêts à donner. Au moyen de la Tribune-Express, la Compagnie d’édition André Paquette Inc., en collaboration avec les commanditaires participants, désirent aider quatre familles nécessiteuses de la région à passer un heureux temps des Fêtes en leur offrant chacune 250 $ en chèques-cadeaux échangeables chez les marchands participants. Nous vous invitons donc à nous faire parvenir une lettre détaillée décrivant l’immense besoin d’une famille nécessiteuse en fournissant le plus de détails possible au sujet de cette famille. Vous devez nous fournir leurs noms, adresse, numéro de téléphone ainsi que votre nom et numéro de téléphone, pour fins de vérification. La confidentialité est assurée.

La pensée m’est venue d’avoir vu dans un livre, une image montrant comment la planète est faite. Là, je commençai à recevoir des rêves de l’univers. À un moment, je vu toutes les étoiles existantes; là, je vie un vide, de là - je reçu l’image d’un œuf qui a existé dans notre espace. Cette image m’a re fl é- tée qu’au commencement, l’univers a formé un œuf, là où l’on vie. Question, est-ce que cet Être Suprême va venir cueillir les restes de son œuf. Summary of the application:
