Chief Campbell noted that having these full-time positions will be necessary given future projections for the township’s growing population and expansion of its residential and commercial areas. “One of the three main lines of defence for fire protection for a community is public education and prevention,” said Campbell. “It’s getting tougher and tougher, with just part-time staff, to get that message and information out there.”
The 140-page report was prepared as part of the 2019 business plan for the local fire departments. A consultant, with expertise in developing master plans for fire departments in other Ontario municipalities, was hired to research issues dealing with fire prevention and response, consult with both departments on present and future needs and concerns, and then draft a list of recommendations for council to consider and pursue over the next five years of upgrading and improving fire services for the township.
The final master plan report presented to council includes more than 70 recom- mendations, most of them minor in nature. The primary recommendation calls for amal- HBNBUJOHUIF3VTTFMMBOE&NCSVOWJMMBHF fire departments into a single municipal fire department with a single fire chief. The merger wouldn’t change operations at the two fire stations, except they would each have a district fire chief who would report to the municipal fire chief. The report also recommends several full- time positions for the new municipal fire department. Besides a full-time fire chief, there would also be a full-time administrative assistant, and either one or two full-time fire prevention officers.
A report on the master plan for Russell Township’s emergency services recom- mends merging the two municipal fire departments into one. “That would be the main idea,” said Bruce Campbell, Russell fire chief, during an interview following the January 13 council session. The growth of the municipality is forcing our hand. We have no choice.”
Council and administration will go over the report during the next few months to deter- mine a priority list for the recommendations. Ontario’s major education unions are all involved in rotating strikes and other actions. They protest delays in new contract negotiations and also govern- ment policy plans, which the unions say threaten Ontario’s education system. Last January 15, teachers, special educa- tion assistance staff, and other support workers set up picket lines in front of several schools in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, and also in front of the Cornwall office of SDG Progressive Conservative MPP Jim McDonell. It was the latest in a series of rotating picket line protests throughout the province, or- ganized by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF/FEESO), which represents secondary school teachers and special education staff in the French public and catholic school districts and in English public school districts. As of January 20, the Elementary Teach- ers Federation of Ontario (EFTO) and the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Associa- tion (OECTA) launched their job actions. One of the goals for all the unions is to press “The executive of the Glengarry-Prescott- Russell Liberal Association is deeply dis- appointed in the appointment of Amanda Simard,” stated the local Liberal riding association in an email to media. “The 12 members of the executive unanimously rejected the appointment of Mrs. Simard.” Jean-Marc Lalonde, a former MPP for the riding, who continues to be an ex officio member of the local association, criticized how party officials handled the decision to accept Simard into the ranks of the party. i8FQBSUJDVMBSMZEFQMPSFUIFGBDUUIBUUIJT decision was made in Toronto, by senior On- tario Liberal Party officials,” Lalonde stated in the notice, “without any local consultation or even notice to the GPRPLA. Life is busy. Finding time for ourselves is incredibly difficult and as we grow older, seems nearly impossible. Before you know it, your children are planning their retirement, and you have forgotten to take care of yourself; your health is the last thing on your mind, especially your dental health. When was the last time you looked in the mirror and smiled? Does your smile look worn-out or is it tilting to one side and looking uneven? How long have you had your dentures? Are they stained, cracked, repaired, worn down or have tartar and bacteria build-up? Prosthetic teeth wearers are encouraged to get regular check-ups to ensure that their oral health is optimal and check for any adverse effects. It may not be necessary to replace prosthetic teeth every five years but making sure that they are in good working order is essential. When patients put their oral health aside for too long, they may find it difficult to regain optimal oral health and the proper function of their prosthetic teeth. These few steps can guarantee an excellent smile for years to come. Here is a scenario. I often hear patients say that their dentures are comfortable and that they love them. I would usually agree to let things go since there are no problems, but the reality is that things could be deteriorating without patients realizing it. When this happens, the key is to begin regaining comfort and maintaining a beautiful smile. One of the issues caused by keeping your dentures in place for too long is that your teeth and bone begin to deteriorate and fade away leading to, among other things, a misshapen mouth. Once the damage is too foregone, it is difficult to bring your teeth and your jawbone back to their normal, healthy state. The normal wear and tear of the regular use of dentures, close to five years, is between 1 and 2 mm with up to 1 mm of bone loss, totalling almost half a centimetre. This has a detrimental impact on the shape and the function of a patient’s mouth; so much so, that regaining optimal health can be problematic. Remember, you must continually care for your smile so that it remains healthy and bright.The goal of a new smile is to restore your mouth’s natural biomechanics, regain optimal oral health and get back to smiling confidently. Don’t let your smile fade away; always ensure that oral health is at the top of your list, for you and your smile. The goal of prosthetic teeth is to restore the mouth’s biomechanics and keep our patients comfortable and happy, not to mention making sure that their smile is as natural as possible.

School districts urge parents of students
to do regular checks of their websites for updated information on whether there will be any school closures as a result of the rotating strikes. The provincial government has offered subsidies for parents who may need daycare or other child-minding service for Kindergarten and primary-grade students who end up staying home because of school closures during the job action. The govern- ment has received criticism for its subsidy offer from unions and some parents who say the money should go towards supporting provincial education programs.

Le rapport cite quelques solutions, comme l’implication professionnelle des jeunes par le biais du programme AgScape Ontario, ou améliorer la communication dans le secteur pour attirer plus de jeunes. L’immigration et les travailleurs étrangers peuvent être une bonne alternative à ce manque flagrant de main-d’œuvre. Ce n’est pas un fait nouveau, toute la province en dépend depuis quelques années. a big crowd, hot to see what was on display at the Living Local Fair. The cafeteria and outer hallway/foyer areas were packed Saturday morning and afternoon, during the January 18 weekend, with display booths featuring local foodstuffs,
handmade crafts, and information kiosks for non-profit and community groups trying to educate the public about local projects, programs, and issues. The Living Local Fair has become annual tradition at the school, through a joint
community partnership agreement between fair organizers and the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario. Students at St. Thomas Aquinas have a chance to fill some of the community hours quotient by serving as volunteers during the fair.

Remettons en question les attitudes négatives par rapport à l’Alzheimer En janvier, Mois de la sensibilisation à la maladie d’Alzheimer, plusieurs activités sont organisées au Québec pour, entre autres, dénoncer les attitudes négatives envers les gens atteints d’une maladie cognitive. PRÉJUGÉS Les personnes atteintes d’une maladie cognitive évolutive telle que l’Alzheimer sont encore victimes de préjugés et de discrimination. Souvent engendrés par unmanque de connaissances, ces comportements demeurent inacceptables et blessants. Défendre les
droits des malades et éduquer la population font partie des priorités de la Société Alzheimer, qui offre une foule de ressources permettant de mieux comprendre les causes, les symptômes et les traitements de cette maladie. TÉMOIGNAGES L’une des stratégies préconisées par la Société pour sensibiliser la population consiste à donner la parole à des hommes et des femmes qui vivent avec l’Alzheimer. Leurs témoignages authentiques donnent différents visages à ce trouble et brisent au passage de nombreux préjugés, notamment que cette maladie n’affecte que les personnes âgées ou que le fait d’être atteint sonne automatiquement le glas d’une vie active et enrichissante. In memory of Joseph Ubald Beaulne (Jos), who passed away with his family at his side, at the Ottawa General Hospital, on January 16, 2020 at the age of 98 years. Survived by his loving partner of 42 years Vera Cross, his son Ron (Maureen) and his grandchildren, Melanie (Joel), Gabrielle (Joel), Adam, Pamela and Jason along with 7 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Elzear Beaulne and Alida Tessier, his daughter Viviann and many brothers and sisters. Joe was a strong willed, proud and very intelligent person who lived a full life. He worked as a fireman in the armed forces, was owner of a hotel in Earlton for a number of years, was also on the road salesman for another part of his life. Every chance he got, he enjoyed travelling with his motorhome, enjoying the life next to a lake and admiring the scenery! Vera and him lived in their own home until the end. He enjoyed taking care of his yard, sitting on his beautiful deck admiring his numerous trees. We say good-bye for now and may you rest in peace Dad... may God reunite you with your family and friends, from up above. Have a little shot of “brandy”!! The family will greet relatives and friends, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 25 at the St. Jacques church, for the condolences. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. The family would sincerely like to thank the nurses and doctors at the Ottawa General Hospital, for their excellent and compassionate care.
