&/#3&'r#3*&'4 FLOOD MAPPING UPDATE The United Counties of Prescott-Rus- sell (UCPR) wants to update the flood maps for the region along the Ottawa River. The current maps date back to the late 1990s and last year’s flood problems in Rockland, L’Orignal, and other areas along the river proved more accurate maps are needed. A delegation from the UCPR and the South Nation Conservation Authority (SNC) met with provincial government officials on the subject during the recent Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference in Ottawa. There were no promises made for funding aid but provincial officials said they would look into the matter. – Gregg Chamberlain

Lise Dallaire, 68 ans, a perdu la vie après avoir été happée par une voiture à Rockland le vendredi 7 septembre. La PPO a été appelée sur les lieux de l’accident, dans le stationnement du journal Vision à Rockland, vers 10 h 20 le vendredi avant-midi. La piétonne, Mme Dallaire, a été happée accidentellement par une voiture conduite par Lorraine Séguin, de Rockland. Mme Séguin se présente comme candidate au poste de conseillère municipale. Dans une déclaration qu’elle nous a fait parvenir, Mme Séguin a offert ses condo- léances à la famille de Mme Dallaire, ainsi qu’à la communauté. « J’envoie mes plus sincères sympathies à sa fille, Mélanie, sa famille, ses amis et tous les gens de la communauté de Clarence-Rockland qui supportaient les causes que Lise Dallaire espérait obtenir pour notre Cité, a dit Mme 4ÊHVJO&MMFÊUBJUVOFEBNFBWFDVOHSBOE cœur qui travaillait toujours dans l’ombre pour toujours servir notre Cité ». Alfred- Plantagenet Township Mayor Fernand Dicaire told counties council that all UCPR municipalities sometimes have building renovation situations where asbestos may be present, and it would be good if counties public works staff received training for type 3 renovation operations where asbestos is involved. According to Gilles Lecompte, the organizer of a petition that was submitted to municipal council in February, the work has made an incredible difference to the road, making it easier and safer to drive on. The 2018 budget did not allow for the entire road to be surface treated, but about half of the road was repaired. The United Counties of Prescott-Russell council (UCPR) has approved a recommenda- tion from Emergency Services Director Michel Chrétien to delay plans for a policy change in the protocol concer- ning service calls from outside of the Prescott-Russell region.
