MISSION STATEMENT

Ann & Nate Levine Academy is an inclusive, dynamic, Jewish day school which fosters leadership, creativity, critical thinking, and Jewish values while empowering its students with

integrity, self-confidence, and intellectual curiosity.

Ann & Nate Levine Academy has received full accreditation from the prestigious Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS)! It became official on June 7, 2022, when Levine received unanimous approval from the 94 ISAS schools across a six-state region at the Annual ISAS Heads Conference. With the esteem of this accreditation comes access to expertise, partnerships, and quality assurance, which will be highly beneficial to our students and teachers. The availability of collaborative opportunities with our Dallas ISAS sister schools — such as Greenhill, St. Mark’s, Hockaday, Parish, Alcuin, ESD, Lamplighter, St. John’s, and Shelton — will broaden the experiences for our students and will elevate the professional dialogue with our teachers. A LETTER TO THE COMMUNITY from the Head of School and the President of the Board of Trustees

Dear Levine Community, This was a breakthrough year for Ann & Nate Levine Academy — one of exceptional quality, exciting innovation, elevated school spirit, and extraordinary community support. The Levine Academy faculty, staff, and board culminated a multi-year accreditation process, catapulting the school to the top tier of independent schools throughout our six-state region. On June 7, 2022, Levine Academy received unanimous approval for full membership in ISAS, the Independent School Association of the Southwest. The new accreditation will mean securing the best support for advancements in governance, education, administration, and inclusivity. ISAS membership also lifts the prestige of Levine Academy; we now stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best schools in Dallas. Indeed, when it comes to achieving top educational quality, ISAS membership has already provided Levine Academy with a comprehensive report from school leaders and faculty members from peer institutions. Fellow educators comprised the ISAS visiting committee which read through Levine’s Self Study Report, visited the school over a four-day period in November of 2021, and issued a 62-page analysis, which confirms the many strengths of Levine’s programs and offers expert guidance to move our school to its next level of excellence. Complacency is certainly not our mode. Rather, Levine Academy is constantly evolving — key to our moving forward for the benefit of our students’ learning is our expanding network of institutional partnerships. From the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum, to the Perot Science Museum, to Texas A&M AgriLife Center, to Texas Wildlife Association, and more on the horizon, we are connecting our students to the sciences, technologies, and humanities in ways that bring relevance, purpose, and depth to their learning. The classroom remains the fulcrum of our school’s purpose and mission. Engaged learning means learning that is active and constructive and keenly pegged to the skills our students will need to be successful in their pre-collegiate years and beyond. STEM-designed lessons have been a feature of several disciplines in all grade levels, not just in science. Computer coding is now a core facet of our curriculum. Our teachers are acquiring the knowledge and sensitivities to address the social-emotional aspects of our learners. Standardized testing analysis and data equip our learning support team, along with our teachers, to sequence our coursework and select the right emphasis to address each learner’s needs. We were fortunate this past year to press ahead with our overnight trips, culminating in our Gerda Vogel Marx 8th Grade Israel Experience. Israel remains central to our Levine Mission and is ever-present in the

learning and hearts of our students. We are proud of what our focus on Israel means for our students: it enlarges their sense of Judaic history, enriches their sense of Jewish identity, and prepares them to face our complex world. Considering the robust nature of the Levine experience, from our nurturing early childhood programs, to our top-notch Lower School curriculum, and onto our amazing and innovative Middle School years, no matter when a student joins Levine Academy we know they will be positioned for success in high school and beyond. And regarding our graduates, we are thrilled to boast again of a sterling line-up of high school acceptances to Yavneh, St. Mark’s, Hockaday, Parish, Greenhill, Alcuin, plus our regional public schools, International Baccalaureate, and other competitive selection programs. The ongoing and ever-evolving strength and vitality of Levine Academy is made possible because of your partnership and your support. We had a phenomenal year of parent, board, and greater school community support, giving us the opportunity to stretch our program and strive for the best education possible for your children and grandchildren. Our Levine Fund reached another zenith in its upward trend, thanks to every one of you. Our Annual Gala, honoring Levine parent and Immediate Past Board President Sandy Haymann Marks, was a resounding success, delivering for us a record-breaking year of philanthropic support. We thank all of you, profusely. We would not be the excellent school we are without your commitment to investing in our students, keeping our school on its continuum of excellence, and boosting our importance in the community. With sincerest gratitude,

TOM ELIEFF Head of School

MARC GROSSFELD President, Board of Trustees

FEDERATION PARTNERSHIP

CORE GRANT: $185,130 This grant was awarded to Levine Academy as a partner organization with the Federation to be used as unrestricted funds in the areas of greatest need. FEDERATION GRANTS 2021-2022 EARLY CHILDHOOD MINDFULNESS PROGRAM - $10,000/YEAR (2 YRS) This two-year grant focuses on our students’ social and emotional well-being. To fulfill this grant, we have partnered with D.O.T.S. For Kids, a company which provides a variety of individualized services for children. Together, we have implemented the Alert Program in our EC classrooms, through training and support from an occupational therapist who joined us on campus weekly. The Alert Program teaches children how to self-regulate for optimal learning and focus, and has shown great success this school year. We are excited to continue this work and expand the program into our lower school next year. INCLUSIVITY INITIATIVE - $19,300 This year, we partnered with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) to bring experts to work with our educators on-campus. Topics included bias, diversity, and acceptance of others and provided insight into ways faculty and staff can begin to teach students about these important topics, as well as create dialogue through literature and classroom programming. This program will continue in the coming years through additional education and partnership with the ADL, social service programs, and joint activities with other Dallas-area independent schools. K-8 DYSLEXIA LEARNING SUPPORT PROGRAM - $12,000 Levine Academy supports the education of students diagnosed with dyslexia and other types of learning differences. Our learning support specialists and dyslexia interventionist provide targeted instruction to these students on a daily basis, with the help of this grant. Our program supported 70 students in Kindergarten through 8th Grade this year.

SUPPLEMENTARY GRANT:

GRANT WRITING SUPPORT - $2,250 This grant allowed us to hire a top-notch, grant-writing firm to complete our U.S. Homeland Security Grant application. We hope to receive the allocation to upgrade the surveillance equipment throughout our campus.

WEINREB EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM

35 Havdalah Celebrations

JUDAIC & HEBREW CURRICULUM Early Childhood Judaic programs at Levine Academy teach the children all about the Jewish holidays, the mitzvot, the blessings that we recite at meal time, and some basic Hebrew words. Each class in 2s through PreK has the opportunity to lead a Shabbat service for the EC and visiting family and friends. This year, the students in PreK got a visit from their Hebrew teacher each week to learn letters, numbers, colors, and body parts through song and dance and lots of fun!

STEM Science/STEM classes in the EC are all hands-on, discovery-based experiences which highlight the 4 most basic sciences – Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Earth Science. Labs include experimenting with chemical reactions, learning about sinking and floating, light, friction, parts of plants, animal habitats and life cycles, and much more!

374 EC Science Experiments Conducted

Thank you to Sharon & Barry Horn for donating butterfly gardens to every EC classroom. For the first time, children of all ages in the EC could enjoy watching chrysalises hatch into beautiful butterflies!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION P.E. in the EC is proudly provided by PowerKids! The structured curriculum is action-packed, heart pounding, and fun. Students use sports skills, age-appropriate challenges and a weekly obstacle course to promote gross motor development, strength, locomotion, vestibular coordination, confidence and a love to move! Babies through PreK advance through the program at their own pace to ensure success and pride in themselves. Each class experience also promotes sportsmanship, following directions, friendship, respect and inclusion.

2022 GALA This year’s 2022 Levine Academy Gala, “Starlit Soiree,” honoring Sandy Haymann Marks, was a huge success. The event raised more than ever before, surpassing $500,000 for our school. Our

multi-generational Levine family joined together to

ensure that our school remains on the forefront of education, even through a global pandemic. We are so proud of our community and we are so excited to have celebrated together in-person this year at the 2022 Gala!
