AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON, POSSESSION OF A WEAPON, BREACH Ross MacDonald , 37, of Cornwall, was arrested on January 21 and charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of undertaking and recognizance for failing to keep the peace. On January 21, police located the man at a First Street address, took him into custody and charged him accordingly. He was transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing. WITNESSWARRANT Anthony Marini, 22, of Ingleside, was arrested on January 21 on the strength of a witness warrant. Police located the man at a First Street address, took him into custody then transported him to police headquarters where he was held for a bail hearing. Darcy Dingman, 45, of Cornwall, was arrested on January 22 on the strength of a warrant. A warrant was obtained for his arrest and on January 22, the man was located by police at the Cornwall Court House. He was taken into custody and held for a bail hearing. ASSAULT A 20-year-old Cornwall woman was arrested on January 22 and charged with assault. Her name was not released as it might identify the victim in the matter. TAKE MOTOR VEHICLEWITHOUT CONSENT A 17-year-old Orleans youth was arrested on January 21 and charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent. His name was not released as per provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

CORNWALL | It’s been going on for 35 years now and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.Withwell over 1200 bowlers every year and countless prizes to be won, why would the Bowl for Kids Sake stop?
“We usually get around 200 teams in all to participate,” explained Amanda Brisson, executive director at Big Brothers Big Sisters. “So far we’ve only had 70 teams sign up,” she added,
“It’s one of our signature events,” said Brisson. “It’s such an important thing for this community, it all brings us closer.”

The dates are set: the 20th Cornwall Lift-Off will be held from July 10 to 13 in Lamoureux Park, announced Lift-Off co-chair Jason Jesmer, last week. Jesmer added that Lift-Off is hard at work trying to prepare a secure launch site, follow- ing last year’s confusing outcome. Last year, several hot air balloons had to be launched in Avonmore, whereas some landed in New York State. Jesmer also announced that Lift-Off music goers will enjoy fewer local bands than in previous years. “Some of these kids, who sadly live in pov- erty, just don’t have special stories to share with others to feel like they belong when they return to school after the weekend or summer vacation,” Thomas told supporters during the meeting, held at Cornwall’s Best Western Hotel. “They have to sit by and qui- etly watch in the background while others share their experiences.’’ “We have had hundreds of kids impacted by your generosity through your support of the Foundation and given them something to talk about and connect with their schools through their own stories,” said Thomas. The foundation approved the disbursal of $138,000 to fully or partially fund 397 stu- dent requests in the 2012-2013 school year, including hockey registrations, summer camp programs, dance and drama lessons, mixed martial arts, a camera for post-sec- ondary studies and entry in a cheerleading competition. CORNWALL | “The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) Champions for Kids Foundation has raised more than $829,000 and is closing in on its long-term goal of $1 million,” said David K. Thomas, director of education and president of the foundation at the organization’s annual general meeting, last January 20. Champions for Kids is the charitable foun- dation of the Upper Canada District School Board. Founded in 2008, it raises funds so children can play sports, enjoy the arts and helps their families cover costs associated with their medical care. Thomas also explained that Champi- ons connects children to their childhood dreams by giving them a chance to experi- ence sports and the arts, and allows them to live a fulfilling childhood. These experi- ences allow them to feel connected with their peers.

lucratif existait depuis à peine deux ans. «J’ai été gagné par la vitalité de cette communauté-là. C’était stimulant aussi parce que le Centre commençait à peine à se développer. C’était tout petit à l’époque. Il y avait une quinzaine d’employés, aujourd’hui il y en a environ 80. Le service à Alexandria venait juste de s’ajouter. Comme organisateur communautaire, j’avais un poste assez hybride. Je travaillais pour les jardins communautaires, je servais de lien pour les programmes de prévention du Centre, pour développer des approches de soutien aux groupes communautaires de la région. Il s’agissait de faire le lien entre la communauté et la santé.» En somme, ce n’était pas tellement différent de ses expériences précédentes alors qu’il œuvrait à mettre sur pied des infrastructures pour améliorer la qualité de vie des gens. «Avec l’influence du travail à l’étranger, j’avais l’impression que je pouvais me rendre utile, que je pouvais aider les gens à s’aider plutôt que juste aider.» On lui confiera bientôt de nouvelles responsabilités. «Probablement à cause de ma grande gueule», dira-t-il sur un ton d’excuse. Marc Bisson pouvait s’appuyer, entreautres,sursescompétencesengestion, acquises à l’Écolenationaled’administration publique. Il avait, auparavant, complété un baccalauréat en histoire. En 2002, il succède à Roland Beaulieu à la direction générale de l’organisme. «Je suis devenu directeur général mais j’ai toujours dit quemon passé communautaire allait toujours être important et que ça allait certainement servir le Centre. Les gens me connaissent parce que je m’implique dans les causes qui me tiennent à cœur et le Centre de santé me donne cette opportunité-là.» Ainsi, le Centre de santé communautaire de l’Estrie, dont le mandat est d’outiller les communautés francophones des cinq comtés de l’est en matière de santé mentale et physique, a fait boule de neige. Après
Cornwall et Alexandria, trois autres points de services ont vu le jour, l’un à Crysler, l’autre à Bourget et le dernier à Embrun en 2008. Sur chaque site, on mise beaucoup sur l’information et la prévention pour garder la communauté en santé. «C’est complémentaire à l’hôpital et la prévention permet au système de santé de respirer un peu plus.» Alimentation, diabète, obésité ou problèmes de santé mentale, entre autres, y sont abordés sous un même toit, par une équipe multidisciplinaire. À l’époque c’était du jamais vu. Le Centre a tout autant

CORNWALL | Il devait y séjourner quelques mois. Marc Bisson a finalement pris racine à Cornwall où il vit depuis plus de 20 ans. Directeur général du Centre de santé communautaire de l’Estrie, ce Franco-Ontarien d’adoption met un point d’honneur à défendre les intérêts de la communauté qui l’a si bien accueilli. «J’étais venu pour un emploi qui devait durer six mois. Disons que mon six mois s’est éternisé.» Encore aujourd’hui, on sent son passé de travailleur humanitaire refaire surface dans sa façon d’aborder la vie. Habitué de faire beaucoup avec peu, l’homme a toujours fait preuve d’un grand optimisme lorsqu’il s’agit de mettre en place les bases de services pour mieux répondre aux besoins des populations. Il est particulièrement sensible aux besoins des francophones à Cornwall, et de partout en Ontario. Il est originaire de Québec et a travaillé pendant près de quatre ans à l’étranger, au Mali, au Rwanda et en Bolivie dans une ville de 100 000 habitants, dont il revenait après un séjour de deux ans avant de mettre les pieds à Cornwall. Son épouse, Lucie Perron, travaillait à ses côtés. «À notre retour au pays, il fallait se retremper pour recharger nos batteries avant de repartir vers d’autres horizons. On nous avait offert quelque chose au Niger mais on n’était pas nécessairement prêts à repartir tout de suite. C’est là qu’on a vu l’annonce dans le journal Le Soleil. Lucie m’a dit que ça pourrait être intéressant. On n’avait jamais entendu parler de Cornwall mais le fait que ce soit en français a piqué notre curiosité.» C’est d’abord comme organisateur communautaire que M. Bisson fait son entrée au Centre de santé communautaire de l’Estrie en 1993. L’organisme à but non

Nouveau pont, nouvelle configuration
à la configuration des chemins conduisant au pont, particulièrement Brookdale. À l’intersection de l’avenue Brookdale et de la rue Water en particulier, où est situé l’accès du pont, les nouveaux feux de circulation sont maintenant opérationnels. Les véhicules qui se dirigent vers le nouveau pont pourront maintenant aller à l’est sur la rue Water, ce qui permettra un accès direct
aux zones commerciales de la ville et Le Village. En plus de ces changements, les barrières de circulation existantes demeureront à proximité de l’ancien emplacement temporaire de l’Agence des services frontaliers du Canada (ASFC) sur l’avenue Brookdale, au sud du carrefour giratoire, jusqu’à ce que l’auvent et les autres installations aménagés pour le point d’entrée temporaire soient démontés par les entrepreneurs de l’ASFC. «Au cours des prochains mois, la circulation en direc- tion du nord sur l’avenue Brookdale continuera d’être redirigée sur la rue Sev- enth jusqu’à ce que l’ASFC enlève ses structures de l’emplacement du carrefour giratoire au pied de l’ancien pont, explique Steve Wintle, chef de division, planification de l’infrastructure. «Au cours des prochains mois, la circulation en direction du nord sur l’avenue Brookdale continuera d’être redirigée sur la rue Seventh jusqu’à ce que l’ASFC enlève ses structures de l’emplacement du carrefour

Nous continuons de discuter avec nos partenaires du gouvernement fédéral, dont la Corporation du pont international de la voie maritime (CPIVM), la SPFL et l’ASFC afin de minimiser les impacts à court terme sur la circulation, l’entretien des routes et les réseaux de signalisation de la ville. Nous continuons de demander aux résidents de faire preuve de patience tandis que la Ville doit attendre que l’ASFC démonte son auvent, ses installations et ses barricades avant de repaver l’avenue Brookdale et de rétablir les structures de trafic, mesures qui sont toutes prévues pour le printemps.» L’Amalgame des arts de la langue française et du théâtre tiendra sa cinquième assemblée annuelle le mercredi 29 janvier, au Centre Charles- Émile-Claude. Ce sera l’occasion de faire un survol de la situation financière et réalisations récentes et d’annoncer les projetsquisepréparent,dontlaprochaine production du théâtre de L’Amalgame. Outre la sélectiondecertainsmembresdu conseil d’administration, les participants seront également invités à se pencher sur les changements apportés au logo de l’organisme et sur des changements importants aux statuts et règlements. Nicolas Valiquette (à gauche), élève de 10e année de l’École secondaire catholique La Citadelle, s’est qualifié pour l’équipe junior de golf de l’Est ontarien. Le samedi 18 janvier dernier, au Ottawa Athletic Club, Nicolas a travaillé avec Adam Holden, un joueur professionnel d’expérience originaire de l’Australie. Les membres de l’équipe ont accès à l’entraîneur personnel Allen Hicks qui s’occupe de leur programme de conditionnement physique. Nicolas s’est qualifié pour l’équipe junior en participant à cinq tournois CPGA (Canadian Professional Golfers’ Association) pendant l’été. Ses trois meilleurs pointages, 77, 73 et 76 lui ont permis d’être un des 12 membres de l’équipe.
Entreprenariat à l’Héritage
Les élèves en PPCS 3 ont participé à un atelier portant sur l’entreprenariat donné par Lisa Boyer, conseillère aux jeunes entrepreneurs et du mentorat d’affaires de Société d’aide au développement des collectivités Cornwall et les Comtés. L’atelier avait pour mandat d’encourager les élèves de penser à des initiatives entreprenantes et à s’embaucher à prendre de l’action entrepreneuriale dans le contexte du projet communautaire du Baccalauréat international. Les élèves ont été initiés au plan d’affaires, ont travaillé en collaboration pour trouver des idées novatrices et ont fait preuve d’audace en suggérant des projets pour améliorer la communauté. Ci-dessus, Ian Montford, Samuel Quesnel et Gabriel Valin qui ont été nommés les gagnants car leur projet faisait preuve d’audace, de créativité et de pensée critique, ainsi qu’Éric Génier, directeur adjoint à l’Héritage. Ian a remporté comme prix un iPod touch.(FR)

Raise the setting to high and cook for 5 min- utes, basting often during the whole of the cooking time. Leave to stand 5 minutes before carving. Cook for 20 minutes on the combination setting of a microwave convection oven until the fat has browned. Mix the beans, wine, onions, thyme, salt and pepper together and cook 4 minutes on high. Reheat any remaining glaze and pour over the lamb. Serve with the beans.
