La pièce raconte l’histoire de sept explorateurs qui, à bord d’un avion qui s’écrase sur une île dans le triangle des Bermudes, se retrouvent perdus et désorientés. Unusually blue snow caused flake size

In an article at Alaska Science Forum, seismologist Larry Gedney says, “When light passes through ice…the red light is absorbed while the blue is transmitted.” He further explains that the more the light is reflected between the crystals the more the longer wavelengths are absorbed, until only the blues (shortest visible wavelengths) are reflected back. This effect occurs in all snow and ice, giving snow its faintly blue cast. However, it was more pronounced than
crystal size, etc., but water (and hence ice) are both naturally very slightly blue, due to a vibrational overtone being the funda- mental cause; blue can become the pro- nounced observable colour under the right conditions.” The colour effect can still be seen by pok- ing a large hole in a fresh part of the snow. The colour in the hole is slightly reminiscent of a glacier’s exterior.

Ils étaient plus de 400 à s’être donné rendez-vous devant la Chambre des commune à Queen’s Park, à Toronto, le 28 février dernier. Des entrepreneurs en colère qui désirent renverser la loi 119 touchant tous les petits entrepreneurs de l’Ontario. Menée par Juliette Forgues (en mortaise), de Casselman, cette manifestation a attiré des entrepreneurs en construction de Prescott-Russel, Hamilton et Toronto. Randy Hillier, député conservateur du comté de Lainark, a déposé une loi, la loi 17, afin de contrer la loi 119. Ils ont su attirer l’attention des députés à l’intérieur puisque leur demande est à l’étude. Mme Forgues est satisfaite de cette manifestation même si plus de participants étaient attendus. Elle prépare toutefois plusieurs manifestations qui auront lieux dans d’autres grandes villes canadiennes.

Des résidents mécontents de la vitesse

La demande de ces derniers était simple: réduire la limite de vitesse sur ce tronçon en installant des balises de réduction de vitesse. «Nous avons plutôt installé, pendant huit semaines, des enseignes de radars de vitesse afin d’inciter les passeurs à réduire leur vitesse et pour étudier les comportements», explique le directeur des travaux publics de Russell, Jérémie Bouchard. Selon les données recueillies, «la vitesse moyenne n’aurait jamais dépassé 42 km/h, le 85 e percentile de vitesse n’ayant jamais été plus vite que 50 km/h. Le pourcentage de violation de vitesse a été jugé entre 12% et 20%, ce qui se trouve principalement entre 50 km/h à 55 km/h, et ce, très tard dans la nuit», rapporte un document de la municipalité de Russell. La municipalité a rejeté la pétition et n’installera donc pas de balises, au grand détriment des résidents. «Nous sommes très déçus de cette décision. Il n’y a pas de trottoir ni d’enseigne indiquant la limite de vitesse. Nos enfants jouent dehors par beau temps, nous promenons nos chiens aussi dans la rue par force majeure. Attendent- ils que quelque chose de grave ne se produise pour agir? Vaut-il mieux guérir que prévenir?», conclut Mme Dompierre. Il semblerait que ce ne soit pas uniquement la rue Normandie qui soit en cause ici. Certains résidents de la rue

EMBRUN l Plus de 90% des résidents de la rue Normandie, sise dans un secteur résidentiel, en ont assez de voir passer devant leurs maisons des voitures roulant au-delà de la limite permise. Emmanuelle Dompierre, Dominique Miron et Jessica Ether sont les instigatrices d’une pétition qu’elles ont passée aux autres résidents de leur rue afin de mettre un terme à l’excès de vitesse de ce petit quartier tranquille. Il semble que la rue Normandie soit un relais pour plusieurs travailleurs afin de rejoindre la rue St-Thomas et la route 300. «Je ne sais pas pourquoi ils passent tous par ici au lieu de prendre la rue Notre- Dame, se demande Mme Dompierre, une aumônier militaire. Cela augmente considérablement la circulation aux heures de pointe de la rue Normandie.» Il faut savoir que la rue Normandie n’a aucun trottoir, que plus d’une dizaine d’enfants y vivent et qu’aucune limite de vitesse n’y est apparente. La pétition a été remplie en bonne et due forme puisque la municipalité de Russell exigeait au moins 80% de signatures pour la faire valoir. Council members expressed support dur- ing the March 4 committee of the whole session for a motion from Coun. Craig Cul- len concerning the water rates agreement situation between the two municipalities. Russell Township’s recent source water im- provement project makes it a satellite pod in the City of Ottawa’s distribution system but the latest increase in the water supply rate has council members steaming a bit. “They are just basically ignoring us,” said Mayor Jean-Paul St-Pierre, regarding past attempts of the township to get Ottawa to review the situation. Right now the agreement in place be- tween the municipality and Ottawa has the city levying the full cost for supplying water to its township satellite. But a recent City of Ottawa auditor’s report has noted that the township should just be paying for the cost of water supply production and not the full cost of the supply service. The auditor’s report recommended a reduced supply rate for water to Russell Township. So far the City of Ottawa has not agreed to the suggestion. The latest word from the municipality is that it will increase the supply rate fee to the township by sev- en per cent this year. That increase is now part of the residential and commercial fee structure in the proposed 2013 water and sewer service budget for Russell Township. Coun. Cullen proposed that township staff start taking all the steps necessary to allow council to press for a legal solution to the situation, including taking the issue

Jamie Laurin asked if the current contract between Russell Township and the City of Ottawa allows for re-negotiation of the supply rates setup or would the town- ship have to break the contract first to get anything going. Jean Leduc, township chief administra- tor, told council that while the township and City of Ottawa both agreed to the wa- ter supply agreement, including the rates structure, there could be a legal under- standing that such an arrangement would also include a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) clause or condition. C’est ce que le président et chef de la direction de la coopérative, Michel Chénier, a dévoilé lors de cette soirée. Cela place confortablement la coopérative dans une position financière solide avec une marge de 12 M$, soit 17%, qui donne à l’entreprise une aisance quant aux paiements des fac- tures qui sont évaluées à quelque 11 M$. «Ce qui nous laisse un bénéfice d’exploita- BURLINGTON l Practical FarmersofOntario (PFO), an organization formed last year to address some of the issues facing small- to medium-sized farm businesses, has had their request to the Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) to increase small flock sizes refused again, and will now take their appeal to an OMAFRA tribunal. At recent hearings, Chicken Farmers of Ontario, which controls chicken quotas, decided that the current limit for non-quota chicken production will remain at 300-birds. Chicken producers in Ontario either fall in the small-flock 300-bird annual limit, or must buy a chicken quota, which costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, and which has a minimum 14,000-bird quantity, with multiple crops per year, for an annual number of about 90,000 birds. PFO’s position, and that of many organic and humane producers, is that minimum 14,000 units is unfeasible for small and medium scale diversified farms, and that allowing a 2000 or even 1000-bird limit would help enable small-flock producers to be profitable. In a letter, CFO director Chris Horbasz explained the organization’s position to PFO president Sean McGivern: “…the purpose of the small flock program was not to create a commercially viable alternate avenue for chicken production and marketing such

Les élèves de l’ é cole élémentaire catholique La Croisée, à Embrun, ont entrepris la Semaine de la francophonie qui a commencé le 4 mars avec panache. Ils se sont tous mis au travail, élèves, enseignants et bénévoles, pour fa- briquer des queues de castor, une gourmandise sucrée à souhait. Plusieurs défis les attendent cette semaine afin
de motiver chacun d’entre eux à amasser des fonds pour la petite Océane Roy (en mortaise), 22 mois, atteinte de paralysie cérébrale. Le but visé: 1500$. Une fois ce but atteint, le directeur de l’école, Guillaume Racine, promet de se déguiser en femme. Ci-dessus, Devan Bastarache, Maxime Blanchard, Annie Groulx (tous de la 6 e année) en compagnie du directeur de l’école.

À l’arrière, on reconnaît la gérante de la succursale de St-Isidore, YollandeDrouin, la responsable de cette campagne, SylvieBazzana, JasmineGagnon, Gabrielle Myre, Peggy Wilkes et Lucie Bourgon. Lors de la prise de photo, un voyage a été tiré dans le cadre de cette campagne de financement, voyage qu’a gagné Alicia Bourbonnais, de Berwick.
