L’AUTO EXPO S’INSTALLE DANS LE CENTRE-VILLE de concessionnaires occupait un petit par- king commercial, à l’écart de la rue, qui comprenait une section «échange» pour les passionnés d’automobiles qui cherchaient des pièces ou des accessoires pour leurs véhicules. Plusieurs stands de vendeurs de vêtements, de souvenirs et d’autres articles en rapport avec l’automobile s’y trouvaient également.

Les rues et les stationnements du centre-ville de Hawkesbury sont deve- nus un lieu d’exposition en plein air pour les classiques, les voitures de grande classe et les exemples célèbres de ce qui s’est fait de mieux dans l’industrie automobile au cours des décennies. «C’est la meilleure exposition automobile à laquelle j’ai participé depuis plusieurs années, a déclaré Pat Denis, président du Club automobile de Hawkesbury. After an overwhelming public outcry, Champlain Township council revisited the Heritage Inventory proposal pres- ented in June. Council was greeted by a large group of local residents at the August 24 meeting, each one of them holding a letter in their IBOE8IFOUIFBHFOEBSFBDIFEUIBUQBSUJ - cular discussion item, each of the residents stepped up to the podium and read from their letters, voicing their support for the Heritage Inventory program. The program was considered and set aside by council when it was proposed at the June meeting, but with over two dozen letters supporting it, council members had reason to reconsider. “The heritage architecture in Vankleek Hill is something to celebrate, it has value and is a unique, irreplaceable asset,” said Andrea Glenn, owner of Gibbs Honey. “A Heritage Inventory would be a good first step JOQSPUFDUJOHUIFTFBTTFUT8FNPWFEIFSF from the GTA in order to start a business, with the ultimate plan of using our historic property for agritourism purposes. As the owners of a historic property, we would have absolutely no objection to a registry and would be keen to list our buildings (house and barn) on it voluntarily.” A draft proposal of the program was presented by senior planner Jennifer Lafo- rest at the regular council meeting in June, detailing an initiative to inventory the heritage buildings in the township. It wouldn’t be a heritage registry with its associated restric- tions, Laforest clarified, but rather a list of heritage buildings that council could use to help make future planning decisions. “It would celebrate our heritage assets and contribute to economic development,” Laforest said. “It is a tool but it is not desi- gned to be punitive to the property owner.” Council expressed doubt about the initia- tive at the time, and wondered who would do the work. Laforest said that in addition to tourism and economic development, the inventory could also inform architectural decisions regarding future modifications or additions. She also said that the inventory would be the work of volunteers from the

Council decided not to move forward with the proposal and filed the report, but the show of support from residents has pushed the idea back into the spotlight. “During the time I was curator of the Musée régional d’Argenteuil, the MRC d’Argenteuil created a built-heritage inven- tory,” said Vankleek Hill resident Michelle Landriault. “This inventory resource was used successfully by Canadian film com- panies scouting for locations. A one-stop shop, harboured at the municipality, for the development of cultural tourism. In February *XBTDPOUBDUFECZ"MJCJ&OUFSUBJONFOU who were exploring which Ontario towns to feature in their six-episode series Boom or Bust for TVO. Based on the rich historic nature of Vankleek Hill, its buildings, its residents, and its surrounding agricultural families, our town was selected. This episode brought identifiable tourism to Vankleek Hill. A municipal heritage inventory would have made the process more convenient and accessible.”
Due to the show of support, as well as community organizations that approached councillors outside the meeting, council reconsidered the proposal. Councillor Gérard Miner said he read every letter, and although most people were in favour of the program, some of the letters didn’t entirely understand what the inventory would do. He suggested that the township take extra steps to make the bounds of the program very clear, espe- cially since he said he wouldn’t necessarily be in favour of an involuntary property registry that restricts property owners’ rights. “I’m glad that we’re doing this, and it shows that once in a while, our citizens know more than we do,” Miner said. “They definitely brought us around to the fact that we slept on the switch on that one.” Council approved the resolution, appoin- UJOH.BZPS/PSNBOE3JPQFMBOE$PVODJMMPST Paul Émile Duval and Sarah Bigelow to the Heritage Committee, which will oversee the inventory process. Son service a contacté des fournisseurs de chasse-neige et a appris qu’il y avait désormais un retard de 12 à 18 mois dans l’assemblage et la livraison des chasse- neige fabriqués sur commande. Il recommande au conseil d’approuver le lancement rapide de la procédure d’appel d’offres, afin que la ville dispose d’un nou- veau chasse-neige à 10 roues d’ici janvier 2025. Le conseil municipal et le personnel de Hawkesbury planifient l’achat d’un nouveau chasse-neige municipal, deux ans avant que l’ancien soit prêt à être mis à la retraite. Lors de sa réunion du 28 août, le conseil a approuvé une recommandation du service des travaux publics en vue d’une planifica- tion budgétaire précoce pour l’achat d’un nouveau chasse-neige, avant le début de la saison hivernale 2025-2026, en 2025. La ville dispose d’une flotte de trois chasse-neige. Le chasse-neige à 10 roues qu’elle possède actuellement est encore en bon état pour faire face aux chutes de neige d’un autre hiver. Mais il approche les 15 ans d’utilisation et le directeur des travaux QVCMJDT +POBUIBO8JMTPO BSFDPNNBOEÊ dans un rapport, que la ville commence à

Terry Fox incarnait le meilleur de ce que nous sommes en tant que Canadiens. Il était un exemple de courage, d’humilité, de détermination et de persévérance. Très jeune, il démontrait déjà ces qualités qui ont fait de lui une source d’inspiration non seulement au pays, mais partout dans le monde. Vous avez peut-être déjà participé à La Journée Terry Fox ou à La Journée Terry Fox des écoles, ou peut-être est-ce nouveau pour vous. Quel que soit votre niveau de participation antérieur, vous avez aujourd’hui l’occasion de montrer ce qui vous habite en vous joignant au mouvement. Notre prochaine génération d’élèves sera celle qui poursuivra le combat de Terry et qui fera progresser cette noble cause vers la réalisation du rêve du jeune athlète, soit un monde débarrassé du cancer.

Eighteen-year-old Terry Fox of Port Coquitlam, BC never saw himself as remarkable. Granted, he displayed an unusual determination to achieve the goals he set for himself but his orbit was local – family, school, sports and friends. But Terry’s cancer diagnosis of osteogenic sarcoma just above the knee, the subsequent amputation of his leg and experience in the children’s cancer wards changed all that. A newly nurtured reservoir of compassion, combined with a fierce determination to bring an end to the suffering cancer causes, set Terry on a path that, quite simply, changed the world. l ve nd d n, Anything’s possible if you try.

Michel Côté met aux enchères l’en- semble de ses sculptures pour aider les enfants d’Haïti à avoir une chance d’avoir une vie meilleure. L’artiste de Wendover contribue depuis plus de 20 ans au financement d’une meil- leure éducation pour les enfants d’Haïti. IT’S TIME TO PLAY SOME HOCKEY!
The 63rd season of the Central Canada Hockey League is a 55-game schedule, that also includes the Annual Fall Showcase, Octo- ber 8 to 10, at the Bell Sensplex in Ottawa. The Bogart Cup Championships playoffs series for the top eight teams in the league at the end of the regular schedule will run from mid-March to early May. The House-a-Hawk billeting program is open for applications from individuals and families who want to help support Hawkes- bury’s junior A team during this new season. Hawks club orfficials believe the billeting program is one of the key components to the local hockey team’s success over the years by providing “a comfortable living environment” for all of the out-of-town players selected during the league draft picks and team tryouts sessions. Nationals at the Robert Hartley Sports Centre. The Hawks will start their official new season at home September 15 against the Nepean Raiders. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The next game on the Hawks’ schedule is at home again September 22, this time against the Ottawa Junior Senators.
