Il n›y aura pas de panique pour les motoneigistes cet hiver concernant l›accès au sentier récréatif de Prescott- Russell, dans le cadre de leurs aventures touristiques. Les Comtés unis de Prescott et Russell (CUPR) et VIA Rail ont convenu d’une autre prolongation de l’entente d’utilisation du sentier récréatif de Prescott-Russell. La nouvelle prolongation se termine à la fin du mois de janvier 2022. Le conseil des CUPR a ratifié la prolonga- tion à la fin de sa session du 25 août, après un examen à huis clos de la proposition. L’administrateur en chef Stéphane Parisien a confirmé, lors d’un entretien téléphonique ultérieur, que les négociations se poursuivent entre les CUPR et VIA Rail au sujet de l’avenir du tracé du sentier récréatif. «Les choses se passent bien «, a-t-il déclaré. Le sentier récréatif de 72 kilomètres suit le tracé d’une ancienne voie ferrée du CPR qui appartient maintenant à VIA Rail. Les rails ont été retirés en 1986 et le sentier PR a été créé en 2006. Several householders on Russell Road in Cheney may soon see a solution to their drinking water problems. Prior to the summer break for Clarence- Rockland city council, Suzanne Jolicoeur asked councilors to something about the water situation for her and other househol- ders in Cheney whose wells were affected by a nearby residential development. «I want to make council aware of the situation we are living in on Russell Road in Cheney,» said Jolicoeur. Jolicoeur’s house and that of a neigh- bour are located adjacent to a residential development that was begun in 2010 at the corner of Russell Road and Drouin Road in Cheney. Jolicoeur told council that she and other householders in the area expressed concern during the public hearings that preceded municipal approval of the project that the residential septic systems of the development could affect their well water. During the past few years now, Jolicoeur has had to have water brought in by tanker to fill her well. «This is a health and safety issue,» she told council. Council directed municipal staff to investi- gate and report on the issue. Director Julian Lenhart of the infrastructure and planning department presented council with a seven- page report during its August 23 committee of the whole session. Water report Lenhart noted in his report UIBU UIF 4PVUI /BUJPO $POTFSWB - tion Authority has determiend that «some septic systems in this project are located too close» to the surface wells of the homes at 494 and 500 Russell Road with «a high risk of contamination» to the wells. The solution proposed in Lenhart’s report is a looping of a 435-metre extension of the municipal water main to allow the houses at 446, 494 and 500 Russell Road with connection access to municipal water. All three properties have shallow well systems that are at risk of contamination from the neighbouring subdivision’s residential septic systems. Both the housing project developer and the city would share the cost of looping the municipal water main. The city’s share of the cost would be$275,941.93, not including

The Terry Fox Story When Terry Fox was diagnosed with osteosarcoma at 18, the experience ignited in him a fierce determination to bring an end to the suffering cancer causes. His personal experience and research led him to the conclusion that more money was needed for cancer research. And so, on April 12, 1980, Terry dipped his artificial leg in the Atlantic Ocean and proceeded to change the world.

Terry Fox… An Inspiration For Everyone Who was Terry Fox? Terry Fox was a Canadian athlete, humanitarian, and cancer research activist. After losing his leg to cancer at only 18 years of age, Terry set out to do the impossible: run across Canada, one marathon a day, in pursuit of his dream to find a cure for cancer.

What was the Marathon of Hope? In 1980, Terry’s journey to raise money for cancer research began and he called it the Marathon of Hope. With fierce determination and hope, Terry completed an average of 42 km each day, every

day for 143 days. He ran a total of 5,373 km.

The weather wasn’t as cooperative for the Riceville Fair as it had been for other local agricultural fairs making a comeback after getting cancelled by the pandemic last year. But fair volunteers and spectators still showed their sup- port by welcoming the return of one of the oldest farm fairs in Ontario. Saturday was cool and cloudy but still comfortable for fairgoers who wandered through the exhibition hall with its award- winning displays of local produce, flower arrangements, home arts, and other dis- plays. Over in the show ring, riders of all ages guided their horses through their paces before the judges in the showmanship riding. Live music filled the air as the various exhibitions took place. Sunday’s antique trac- tor pull entrants had a track that was more slippery than expected for driving thanks to a heavy morning rain but drivers still carried on to prove who had the toughest, stronger tractor.
