The draft plan proposes cohorting of students from the Kinder- garten to Grade 12 levels at all schools with a quadmester model in place for secondary students for the first half of 2021-2022. If public health conditions allow, all students will return to regular classroom routines by February 2022, including semester systems at secon- dary schools and expanded cohort setups at elementary schools. The United Counties will provide some extra financial help for dealing with legal cannabis issues in some Prescott- Russell communities. The United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) has $94,933 left over from the JU SFDFJWFE GSPN UIF 0OUBSJP Cannabis Legalization Implementation Fund. The provincial government set up the fund to provide financial assistance to communities dealing with social and other issues related to the legalization of cannabis in Canada. "MM NVOJDJQBMJUJFT JO 0OUBSJP SFDFJWFE one grant-in-aid from the fund to help with staff training and other costs related to legalized cannabis issues. Municipalities which agreed to allow cannabis retail shops to operate within their areas would be eligible for further grants from the fund. The UCPR used some of the money from its own grant to develop both a policy and training program for staff regarding cannabis and alcohol-related issues in the workplace. Hawkesbury staff have a new parking space plan for its boat launch sites. Recreation and Tourism Director Samuel Cardarelli presented a report to council during its April 12 session about a plan to make sure both resident and visiting boat owners have parking space for their boat trailers while they go out on the Ottawa River this summer. Town staff have tried for several years now to devise an efficient way of providing adequate parking for both resident and seasonal boaters at the municipal boat launches at Confederation Park on Île du Chenail and the Cyr-de-LaSalle Park site off of Philippe Street. Cardarelli’s report noted an increase in out-of-town boat owners coming to Hawkesbury in recent years “which has caused parking to become an issue” for local boat owners when they want to use the boat launch sites for either weekend or holiday boating excursions. Council approved Cardarelli’s recommen- dations to restrict the Cyr-de-LaSalle Park boat launch to seasonal and resident parking passes for boat owners. The Confedera- tion Park site will be available for season and resident passes and the recreation and tourism department will also install a pay-and-display machine kiosk to issue day passes for boat owners using the parking lot area at that site. Les enquêteurs de la Police provinciale de l’Ontario pensent que sa mort pourrait être due à un délit de fuite. Un groupe québécois lance un projet d’affichage d’avis de recherche à Hawkesbury. Le Groupe de travail sur les meurtres et disparitions du Québec apporte son projet d’affichage publicitaire à la ville de Hawkesbury dans l’espoir d’obtenir de l’aide pour deux affaires non résolues, l’une à Québec, l’autre dans le canton d’Alfred-Plantagenet. La municipalité a autorisé le groupe à installer un panneau d’affichage à l’angle des rues Principale et Tupper jusqu’à la fin du mois de juin. Le panneau sera ensuite déplacé sur un site le long de la route de comté 17. Le panneau d’affichage présentera des

The new president of the union repre- senting Ontario’s English Catholic teach- ers was inspired to help advocate for her colleagues while working at elementary schools in eastern Ontario. Barb Dobrowolski was elected president of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) at the 2021 annual general meeting. She is due to begin her two-year appointment on July 1, after holding other roles at the association such as vice- president on the provincial executive and president of the Eastern Ontario local unit. Dobrowolski began her career in 1992 at .PUIFS5FSFTB&MFNFOUBSZ4DIPPMJO3VTTFMM Her time working at that school, as well as St 1BUSJDL$BUIPMJD4DIPPMJO3PDLMBOE JOTQJSFE her to advocate for colleagues. “I really enjoyed the community, and I loved my colleagues,” she said. “I looked around me and saw incredibly dedicated, hard-working teachers who often didn’t think of their own needs and put everyone else needs first. I felt that they needed good advocacy.” Dobrowolski acknowledged her term as president would be challenging, as COVID-19 continued to affect students, teachers and parents. “We’re going to have a lot of students who are struggling, because they’ve missed a lot of school,” she said. “When they get back, they’re going to be way behind, they’re going to be uncomfortable, and we’re going to have to support them. When things do get back to normal, we’re going to have to focus on everyone’s mental health, and ensure school is a place where students feel safe.” The welfare of teachers during the pan- demic remained a concern. Dobrowolski said teachers had been asked to do “the impossible” by simultaneously educating students in-person and remotely. She said the association would push for educators to be prioritized in the vaccine rollout. “Teachers are at a breaking point,” she said. “When I talk to some of my colleagues, they talk about teachers regularly breaking down, coming in and confiding that they’re really at rope’s end right now.” Dobrowolski asked the wider community for support over the next two years, and said she hoped to effectively advocate for a strong public education system. “It’s world class now, and we want to keep it that way,” she said. “I also know I have my work cut out for me over the next couple of years.”

M Gaëtan Charbonneau, de Vankleek Hill, est décédé à l’Hôpital général de Hawkesbury, le mercredi 28 avril 2021, a l’âge de 87 ans. Il était le fils de feu Lucien Charbonneau et de feu Alexina Pommainville. Tendre époux de feu Carmen Charbonneau (née Plouffe). Père bien- aimée d’Aline Gratto (Steve), Paul (Kathleen), Michel (Lynn), Josée Mercier (Gilles) and Lucie Lepage (Yvon). Grand-père adoré de Marc (Jennifer), Melanie (Michaël), Mathew (Tanya), Natasha (Dillon), Julie (Nicolas), Benoit (Dominique), Valérie, Chris, Jessie (Sandy), Christian (Julie), Isabelle (Marc-André), Maxime (Martine) et Andréanne (Gabriel). Prédécédé d’une petite-fille, Natalie. Arrière- grand-père d’Emma, Emerick, Piper, Thatcher, Mikael, Alexi, Lily Rose, Meliane, William, Daphne, Kathia, Isaac, Xavier, Félix, Malik et Kloée. Take notice that the Municipal Council of the Corporation of the Town of Hawkesbury will hold a public meeting on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. virtually to consider the proposed Official Plan Amendment and Zoning By-law N° 20-2018 under Sections 17, 21, and 34 of the Planning Act , R.S.O. 1990, c. P. 13 as amended. The purpose of the application is to change the designation of this property in the Town of Hawkesbury’s Official Plan and to rezone said property. Currently the western part of the property is designated in the Official Plan as a Community Commercial policy area while the eastern part is designated as a Trade and Industry policy area. The proposed new designations are Trade and Industry Transition policy area for the part of the land adjacent to County Road 17, East of Industriel Boulevard. The rest of the property will be designated as a Residential policy area. These designations must be changed to allow proper zoning for this project. The property is currently zoned Highway Commercial (CH) West of Industrial Boulevard and Trade and Industry Zone 2 (E2) East of said Boulevard. The intention of this request is to rezone the western and northern part of Industrial Boulevard as Mixed Residential with different densities ranging from Residential Density 2 (R2) to Residential Density 4 (R4), the part located north of Alexander Siversky Street will also be zoned Residential Density 4 (R4). The land east and bordering County Road 17 would become Regional Commercial (CR). These Zoning By-law and Official Plan Amendment applications will be specific to the property located at 545 Industriel Boulevard, in the Town of Hawkesbury, County of Prescott. If a person or public body would otherwise have the ability to appeal the decision of the approval authority, being the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, to the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal but the person or public body does not make oral submissions at a public meeting or make written submissions to the Corporation of the Town of Hawkesbury before the proposed Official Plan amendment is adopted, the person or public body is not entitled to appeal the decision. If a person or public body would otherwise have the ability to appeal the decision of the Corporation of the Town of Hawkesbury to the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal but the person or public body does not make oral submissions at a public meeting or make written submissions to the Corporation of the Town of Hawkesbury before the municipal by-law is passed, the person or public body is not entitled to appeal the decision. If a person or public body does not make oral submissions at a public meeting, or make written submissions to the Corporation of the Town of Hawkesbury before the proposed Official Plan amendment is adopted and the Municipal By-law is passed, the person or public body may not be added as a party to the hearing of an appeal before the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal unless, in the opinion of the Tribunal, there are reasonable grounds to do so. Oral and written submissions will form part of the public meeting minutes record, including the name and address of the speaker, as information collected under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The minutes of the meeting will be posted on the Town’s website. Following the Public Health guidelines, this meeting will take place virtually in order to comply with the current health rules.
