planning on geমng into real estate then, but the two kept in touch and had a wonderful meeঞng in 2018, which prompted Carl to join Geoff’s team. Carl says growing up playing the sport did wonders for him as he got older and started geমng his first real jobs. He was a junior member at the Club de Golf Outaouais (now the Club de Golf Rockland) since the course was literally, he says, in his backyard. He’d spend most summer days at the club and started working there when he was 14. His father owns a business, along with his uncles and late grandfather, so growing up the son of a small- business owner – combined with his ঞme on the golf course as a youngster – taught him how to be a professional. “There was eঞquee. You needed to treat everyone with respect. There was customer service. You needed to make sure everyone was treated with the highest standard,” he recalls, while admiমng with a smile he has a funky side, too, enjoying an occasional prank. Carl began his real estate career last fall and his aমtude was immediately well received by clients and coworkers alike. He put 10,000 kilometres on his car in October and since he was born and raised in Rockland – and sঞll
Although Carl Brunet hasn’t been part of the Walker Real Estate Group for very long, he’s already made a lasঞng posiঞve impact. Carl has been selected to spearhead the group’s expansion to Rockland and although he joined the team in September, he’s been an invaluable part of the team’s growth through late 2018 into early 2019. “The opportunity presented itself with Carl… he showed immediate sales skills working throughout Oawa and we figured with him living in Rockland, it allowed us to have a further development within our business, anchored by someone who is fully bilingual,” says Geoff Walker. “He has an understanding of our markeঞng systems in the city and can bring those to an outskirt town. It’ll be new to the town and to our business.” Carl spent more than a decade working for the federal government in customer service, making his way up to a management posiঞon where he had a team of employees. He admits now he didn’t want to be a life- long government employee, bound to an office desk with strict hours. Although he felt rewarded – Carl worked in a department responsible for distribuঞng the pensions of military members – he didn’t feel as though he was making a own schedule, and work hard on projects alongside Geoff and the team was too good to pass up, so Carl took the real estate course necessary to get his license. Something that is supposed to take 18 months to complete took Carl only eight, while he was holding his full-ঞme management posiঞon at the same ঞme. “Every morning on the bus I’d commute in and read, then on the way home I’d be on the bus and read. I’d read on the weekends, I’d read throughout the summer… it was busy,” he says with a laugh. “But it was all worth it.” A lifelong golfer, Carl met Geoff Walker over eight years ago when a request to play in a foursome that included Geoff came across his desk. He wasn’t difference in his own community. The opportunity to be an entrepreneur, to make his
lives there to this day – he and Geoff discussed the potenঞal for him to lead the expansion east of the city. “I know all the streets in Rockland, I’ve been on every street and I’ve got friends everywhere. It definitely helps. I understand the market here especially with my family having been here for three generaঞons,” he says, Carl.
“We wanted him on board from his deep roots in the Rockland market, we knew he had a good future in a sales-type environment,” conঞnues Geoff. “He’s charismaঞc, personable, and very understanding to people’s situaঞons, which is a huge component of the business.” “Carl knows how to treat a client and he knows how to read a client. Les citoyens de Clarence-Rockland feront face à une augmentation de l’impôt foncier de 2,9 %. C’est ce qu’a décidé le conseil municipal de la Cité lors de l’adoption officielle du budget 2019, qui a eu lieu le 20 février dernier. « C’est un des budgets les plus difficiles qu’on ait fait, a fait valoir le maire de Clarence-Rockland Guy Desjardins. Mais je suis satisfait de la hausse de 2,9 %. Les pompiers de Clarence-Rockland ont été fort occupés en fin de soirée, dimanche, alors qu’un feu s’est déclaré au 1253 chemin Caron à Rockland. Une fois sur les lieux, ils ont découvert un incendie qui ravageait une maison ainsi qu’un garage attenant. « La maison est une perte totale, a déclaré le chef de pompier Brian Wilson. Selon notre enquête sur les lieux, nous avons déterminé que la cause du feu était accidentelle. » Quatre personnes ont été jettées à la rue. Un autre domicile a été ravagé par les flammes, samedi dernier, sur le chemin Lavigne à Bourget. Enbridge Gas Inc. a déposé une requête en vue d’obtenir une augmentation de ses tarifs de gaz naturel à compter du 1 er avril 2019 afin de recouvrer les coûts associés à la Loi sur la tarification de la pollution par les gaz à effet de serre (loi fédérale). En savoir plus. Donnez votre avis. La Commission de l’énergie de l’Ontario a approuvé la fusion d’Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. et d’Union Gas Limited en août 2018. Les deux sociétés ont fusionné pour former Enbridge Gas Inc. (Enbridge Gas). Enbridge Gas a déposé une requête auprès de la Commission de l’énergie de l’Ontario dans laquelle elle demande l’autorisation d’augmenter les tarifs afin de recouvrer les coûts associés au respect de ses obligations en vertu de la loi fédérale, Loi sur la tarification de la pollution par les gaz à effet de serre (loi). La loi établit un programme de tarification du carbone en vertu duquel Enbridge Gas est tenue de payer une taxe sur le carbone au gouvernement fédéral pour les volumes de gaz naturel qu’elle livre aux clients à compter du 1 er avril 2019. La loi impose également d’autres obligations à Enbridge Gas relativement aux émissions provenant de l’exploitation de son réseau de distribution de gaz naturel depuis le 1 er janvier 2019. Si la demande est approuvée telle quelle, la facture d’un client résidentiel type dans les anciennes zones de tarification d’Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. et d’Union Gas Limited augmentera des montants suivants chaque année : Zone de tarification Augmentation annuelle de la facture résidentielle Enbridge Gas 93,93 $ Union Sud 86,21 $ Union Nord 86,18 $ La Commission de l’énergie de l’Ontario (CEO) tiendra une audience publique afin d’étudier la demande d’Enbridge Gas. Nous écouterons également les questions et les arguments des particuliers et des groupes qui représentent les clients d’Enbridge Gas. À l’issue de cette audience, la CEO décidera du bien-fondé d’un changement tarifaire. La Commission de l’énergie de l’Ontario est une agence publique indépendante et impartiale. « De la poussière en été, de la glace en hiver et de la bouette au printemps, sans compter les nids de poule. » Voilà comment une citoyenne a décrit le chemin Gagné lors de la réunion muni- cipale du 20 février dernier. Un groupe de citoyens qui demeurent sur ce chemin s’étaient déplacés afin de faire connaitre leur mécontentement face à la condition de la route. « J’habite sur le chemin Gagné depuis maintenant 25 ans, a expliqué Alan Stewart. Notre chemin est dangereux non seulement pour nos voitures, mais aussi nos propriétés et nos citoyens. » M. Stewart a présenté au conseil une pétition de 117 signatures. « Nous vou- lons que vous paviez le chemin Gagné, a souligné l’homme. C’est le seul chemin non pavé qui se rend à un des villages de Clarence-Rockland. » Or, selon le directeur de l’infrastructure et de l’aménagement pour la Cité, Julian Lenhart, le projet pourrait s’avérer couteux. « Paver Gagné est un projet majeur, a-t-il faire remarquer. Ça nous couterait à peu près 5 M$ pour rebâtir la route. » La somme de 2,4 M$ a été mise de côté dans le budget de 2019 afin d’apporter de réparer les chemins de Clarence-Rockland. De plus, le chemin Gagné ne figure pas dans le plan décennal de la Cité. Tous étaient d’accord que la détérioration du chemin était attribuable aux camions lourds qui empruntent le chemin Gagné. En effet, on retrouve deux sablières sur cette route. Le maire de Clarence-Rockland, Guy Desjardins, a fait flotter l’idée de charger un montant aux camionneurs qui empruntent le chemin. « Ce sont eux qui causent le dommage sur la route », a-t-il fait valoir. Bien que les conseillers se soient dits sympathiques au sort des citoyens, les élus n’ont toutefois pas pris de décision concrète concernant le sort de la route, décidant toutefois de mandater M. Lenhart pour qu’il présente un rapport soulignant les différentes options qui s’offrent à la Ville. « J’aimerais pouvoir étudier le sujet davantage », a fait valoir le conseiller du quartier cinq, Mario Zanth.

More development of Prescott-Russell’s tourism sector is part of the OPRO plan, which will help support and maintain existing businesses and also draw new business investment to the region. The final part of the OPRO report plan calls for supporting better access to criti- cal business infrastructure like improved Internet service and also better hydro rates, which can affect basic operating costs.
A report to the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) council explains what is working for econo- mic development in Prescott-Russell and offers a 14-step strategy for doing better. The UCPR received and approved the Opportunités Prescott-Russell Opportunities (OPRO) report during its February 20 session. The OPRP reports deals with a two-year study for the UCPR economic development and tourism department as part of its economic development strategy planning for the region. “The purpose of this survey (project) was to analyze the situation of Prescott and Russell’s businesses to better understand

Mayor Guy Desjardins of Clarence- Rockland cast the sole vote against approving this year’s budget for the counties. The United Counties of Prescott-Russell council (UCPR) approved the 2019 budget during their February 20 session but it was not a unanimous vote. Clarence-Rockland’s mayor voted no for two reasons. “To accept a 3.8 per cent tax (increase) for the counties is not proper,” said Desjar- dins during a later interview. “I would have preferred to have three (per cent) or less.” Desjardins also thinks counties council could have kept the property tax increase lower, if it had chosen to draw on some of its reserves for funding some of the capital works allocations included in the budget rather than pay for them through the county tax levy portion. He argued that counties council could always “pay back” any money drawn from reserves during future budgets. “They’ve got reserves,” Desjardins said. “They could have borrowed the money if they had to.” The 2019 UCPR budget is $111,966,000. That includes all sources of funds, from senior government grants to user fees

The OPRP plan calls for pro- moting local buying of goods and services, developing policies which encourage and support business start-ups, including finding ways to attract skilled workers to the region. More than 500 businesses throughout Prescott-Russell were surveyed as part of the OPRO report, including those in the indus- trial, commercial, agricultural, and tourism sectors. The project also provided advice and other assistance to some businesses, to either encourage them to stay in the Pres- cott-Russell area or to help deal with some of the problems hampering their operations. Olivier Berthiaume, project officer for the UCPR economic development department, reported that the OPRO program helped

Enbridge Gas Inc. has applied to raise its natural gas rates effective April 1, 2019 to recover costs associated with the Federal Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act. Learn more. Have your say. The Ontario Energy Board approved the amalgamation of Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. and Union Gas Limited in August 2018. The companies have amalgamated to form Enbridge Gas Inc. (Enbridge Gas). Enbridge Gas has applied to the Ontario Energy Board for approval to increase rates to recover costs associated with meeting its obligations under the Federal Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act (Act). The Act establishes a carbon pricing program under which Enbridge Gas is required to pay a carbon charge to the federal government for volumes of natural gas that Enbridge Gas delivers to customers starting April 1, 2019. The Act also imposes other obligations on Enbridge Gas related to emissions from the operation of its natural gas distribution system starting January 1, 2019. If the application is approved as filed, the bill of a typical residential customer within the former Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. and Union Gas Limited rate zones will increase by the following amounts per year: Rate Zone Residential Annual Bill Increase Enbridge Gas $93.93 Union South $86.21 Union North $86.18 Other customers, including small businesses, would also be affected. THE ONTARIO ENERGY BOARD IS HOLDING A PUBLIC HEARING The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) will hold a public hearing to consider Enbridge Gas’ request. We will also hear questions and arguments from individual customers and from groups that represent Enbridge Gas’ customers. At the end of this hearing, the OEB will decide what rate change will be allowed. The OEB is an independent and impartial public agency. We make decisions that serve the public interest. Our goal is to promote a financially viable and efficient energy sector that provides you with reliable energy services at a reasonable cost. Why not merge these two traditions to add some originality to our meal? After the chinese fondue, the cheese fondue, the chocolate fondue, and the meat fondue, we now have the maple syrup fondue! Ingredients: • 500 ml (2 1/2 cup) maple syrup • 250 ml (1 cup or 16 tablespoons) 35% cream (whipping) • 40 ml (1/4 cup or 4 tablespoons) corn starch • 30 ml (2 tablespoons) cold water • fresh fruit cut in pieces Directions: • In a pot, bring maple syrup and cream to a boil • Dilute the corn starch in the water, and stir into the boiling mixture using a whisk • Pour into a fondue pot and place over the burner • Serve with an assortment of fresh fruit
