HELLO, PEARLAND!
What a unique time to live in Pearland. Even as I write this letter, life as we know it is changing rapidly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But, because of our great community, the

people who live here, the elected officials that represent you, and the staff that keeps services running in Pearland and keeps you informed, we have learned to adapt quickly to keep everyone safe and keep the community together. I started this letter talking about the current pandemic because it is our current situation, but also because it will impact a lot of what is in the Pearland In Motion you are now reading. Pearland In Motion was starting to be put together long before COVID-19 changed our lives. That being said, all of our employees, especially those involved in programming, are finding alternative methods for civic engagement never before seen in our community. There are a variety of online events and programs to stay engaged and get involved in the Pearland community, and I encourage you to check them out and try something new. As we are figuring out this new normal, we will continue to provide opportunities to connect together and will always look for ways to enhance the services that our beloved residents want and continue to enjoy. Thank you for being a part of this time in life with us; it wouldn’t be possible without the sense of community that Pearland has worked so hard to achieve. To the extent that it is safe and allowable, go experience Pearland in person and online, and join us as we grow together.

CITY NEWS
Facility Updates
SHADOW CREEK LIBRARY The City is constructing a permanent 39,000 square foot county library facility on the west side of Pearland. The facility will be located on a 3.2 acre site on Shadow Creek Parkway west of Kirby Drive. The two-story library will include traditional library spaces designed for patrons of all ages, private study rooms, a 100-seat teaching theater and a county tax office. There is potential for collaboration with Brazoria County to move the tax office from the Public Safety Building to this site.
FIRE STATION NO. 8 In addition to Shadow Creek Library, the neighborhood is also receiving an additional fire station, which will be dedicated upon completion on the west side of Pearland. Fire Station No. 8 will assist Fire Stations Nos. 4 and 5 in assisting with emergency calls throughout the area. Curious to learn about other projects the City is undertaking? Visit pearlandtx.gov/projectupdates to learn more about the many ways we continue to improve our city.

Emergency Preparedness Are you prepared? Summer is synonymous with the onset of floods and hurricanes here along the Gulf Coast and our natural floodplains, so make sure you and your loved ones are ready for what may come. Here are a few tips to get started: ■ Purchase flood insurance. ■ Ensure home and neighborhood safety by purchasing 5/8” plywood for your windows, storing away outdoor items such as barbecue grills, patio furniture, trampolines and basketball goals and trimming weak or dead branches from your trees. ■ Have an emergency action plan in place to account for and ensure care of special population family members and friends, such as infants and children, the elderly, ill or injured residents and people with disabilities as well as pets and livestock. ■ Monitor and listen to local news stations and local authorities for information on weather and evacuations, if necessary. Heed warnings. ■ Keep your vehicle fuel tank at least half full during the season. Fill up before leaving town if evacuating. ■ Follow the Family Disaster Checklist to ensure you have all needs and wants packed and accounted for prior to evacuation. See pearlandtx.gov/residents/resources/ emergency-preparedness/general-information . ■ Ensure vehicle readiness at the start of th e season by checking fluid levels and tire pressure, as well as keeping on hand a roadside emergency kit, to include jumper cables, a jack, and a lug wrench. ■ Sign up for the City’s eAlerts on pearlandtx.gov to stay up to date with emergency information.
