A member is fit for duty when they are in a physical, mental and emotional state that
allows the individual to perform assigned duties competently and in a manner that does not compromise or threaten the safety or health of that individual or others, the environment, or OPP property. Reporting to work fit for duty requires a member be without limitations resulting from, but not limited to, all drugs (including cannabis, over-the-counter and prescription medication) and/or alcohol. If a member has accommodation needs, the OPP will continue to review such accommodation requests and needs in accordance with the Ontario Public

COUNTIES FILES AMBULANCE PLAN The chief for the Prescott-Russell Ambulance Service is optimistic about meeting next year’s perfor- mance goals for his department. Michel Chrétien, emergency ser- vices director for the United Coun- ties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR), presented the 2019 performance plan report to counties council during its September 26 session. Chrétien told counties council that he is “optimis- tic” about his department meeting next year’s goals for arrival and run times, for regional ambulance units dispatched to calls within the Prescott- Russell region. The UCPR is required under provin- cial rules to file a performance plan proposal each year for its regional am- bulance service. The plan outlines the percentage compliance expected for the year for units dispatched to calls ranging from cardiac arrest incidents to a range of accident situations, vary- ing from minor to life-threatening, com- pared to timed response standards set by the counties and the province. Annual evaluation reports show how well the service has performed com- pared to plan predictions. —Gregg Chamberlain

Le Village de Grenville a fait l’acquisition du dernier bar de danseuses sur son territoire. Le conseil municipal était heureux d’en faire l’annonce par communiqué lundi. La Municipalité a acheté le bâtiment qui abritait Le Cabaret, sur la rue Principale à l’angle de la rue Maple, pour 350 000 $. L’établissement avait temporairement fermé ses portes au printemps 2018. Cet achat devrait mettre un terme à la présence de ce type d’établissement sur le territoire, ceux-ci étant désormais interdits dans les secteurs commerciaux de la municipalité. « Cette transaction revêt une importance capitale pour la revitalisation de notre rue Principale. Pendant plusieurs décennies, cet immeuble a abrité un type de commerce qui était loin de faire la fierté de notre commu- nauté qui, rappelons-le, constitue la porte d’entrée de la MRC d’Argenteuil et de la province de Québec. […] Avec la disparition de l’ancien bar de danseuses, le Village de Grenville est fort optimiste quant au développement du potentiel économique de son artère commerciale », a déclaré le maire, Luc Grondin. Depuis déjà quelques mois, Grenville tra- vaille en étroite collaboration avec le Service de développement économique de la MRC d’Argenteuil afin de trouver une nouvelle vocation à l’immeuble présentement vacant. Avantageusement situé au cœur de la muni- cipalité, l’endroit offre un lot de possibilités intéressantes sur le plan commercial et social. Différentes options sont actuellement étudiées et des approches ont également eu lieu auprès d’entrepreneurs. Par ailleurs, le conseil municipal a dit se réjouir d’avoir pu saisir l’occasion de mettre un terme à ce « fléau nuisible ». Il rapporte que depuis longtemps, la Sûreté du Québec, et les autres services policiers à travers le Canada, établissent un lien entre ce type de commerce et différents phéno- mènes criminels, notamment la présence du crime organisé, l’exploitation de jeunes filles mineures, la prostitution, le commerce de drogues, la violence et l’intimidation.

Last year the township acquired a small lot on Main Street adjacent to the village post office. It is the new per- manent home for the Cenotaph, which was relocated this year from its old site on the grounds of Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute near the Highway 34 sidewalk shoulder. The project was budgeted at more than $100,000 and several community groups and individuals have provided cash dona- tions to assist with it. The township also received a grant from the provincial Commu- nity Improvement Program 150. Confusion resulted over the exact amount still needed to finance the rest of the work on the project and the subject was tabled to the end of the meeting to allow administration to recheck its accounting. Knudsen later told council that the pro- jected expense total is about $109,000, with about $53,000 in grants and donations received, leaving $56,000 left to finance. It is official, the new Saint-Isidore Church will be born from its ashes. Many parishioners were delighted with the official launch of the construction work on October 17. The new church will be built on the same site as the old one. It will house the premises for the presbytery, as well as for the Joseph-Roy Centre. COLLISION MORTELLE ENTRE LES VILLAGES D’ALFRED ET DE L’ORIGNAL

Une personne est décédée à la suite d’une collision survenue le 19 octobre vers midi, sur la route de comté 17 entre les villages d’Alfred et de L’Orignal, impliquant deux semi-remorques et une voiture. L’accident s’est produit à environ huit kilomètres à l’est d’Alfred et à trois kilo- mètres à l’est de l’intersection du chemin Blue Corner, dans le canton de Champlain. La police, les ambulanciers paramédicaux et les pompiers du service des incendies du canton de Champlain ont répondu à un appel concernant un accident à 12 h 30.
