Jusqu’à présent, plus de 900 échantillons ont été récoltés pour les tests, avec des résultats négatifs pour près de 700 de ces tests. Toutes les fermes commerciales de cervidés en exploitation sont également tenues de respecter les normes fédérales de décontamination pour demeurer ouvertes. Le conseiller Moran a fait remarquer que l’Ontario a appris sa leçon dans le passé en s’occupant de projets commerciaux et industriels qui pourraient comporter des risques futurs.

Les fermes de chevreuils n’occu- peront plus qu’une partie limitée du paysage agricole dans la région de Grenville-sur-la-Rouge. On s’attend à ce qu’un amendement à un règlement local, visant à interdire les fermes commerciales de cerfs dans toutes les zones sauf une seule de la municipalité de Québec, soit adopté sans discussion ou opposition à la séance du conseil du village du 12 novembre. L’objectif est d’aider à protéger la population de cerfs indigènes du Québec contre la maladie du dépérissement chronique, après qu’un cas de la maladie ait été signalé dans un élevage commercial de cerfs, dans une autre municipalité de la région de l’Outaouais, au Québec. Une demi-douzaine de résidants ont assisté à une assemblée de consultation publique, le jeudi 7 novembre en soirée, sur le projet de modification du règlement. La principale préoccupation exprimée était à

Comme ailleurs au Canada, Hawkesbury souffre d’un manque chronique de main- d’œuvre (peut-être même, davantage dû à l’exode massif des jeunes vers les grands centres). Comment le CSEPR et la ville de Hawkesbury envisagent-ils de résoudre ces lacunes de personnel ? De plusieurs façons, les unes plus créatives que les autres. Le 12 novembre, une délégation formée de la mairesse Paula Assaly, Murielle Huneault Pilon, agente de liaison, Apollos Gustanar, coordonnateur à l’immigration et Carole Muise, agente de communications, s’est envolée vers l’Europe dans une mis- sion exploratoire, première dans son genre, selon Mme Muise. Leur but est d’attirer du EN EUROPE POUR ATTIRER UNE MAIN D’OEUVRE FRANCOPHONE la voie dans cette direction, afin d’aider nos employeurs à trouver de la force de travail qualifiée », a-t-elle expliqué. Ces trois mots com- plètent la gravure sur la pierre tombale du caporal Patrick Lormand, un résident de Hawkesbury Est, qui a fait le sacrifice ultime comme membre des Forces arm ées canadiennes. Il y a 10 ans, le caporal Lormand est décédé pendant sa période de service en Afghanistan. Il faisait partie d’une des unités des Forces armées canadiennes affectées à la coalition de l’Alliance contre la dictature talibane. Le sergent Daniel Bizier se souvient de Patrick Lormand comme d’un Canadien typique, « qui aimait aller chez Tim Hortons » et passer du temps avec sa famille et ses amis. Le sergent Bizier était le conférencier invité lors d’un service spécial, le dimanche 10 novembre, à l’église Saint-Joachim de Chute-à-Blondeau, à la mémoire du caporal Lormand et d’autres anciens combattants canadiens, passés, présents et futurs, et aussi pour honorer la mémoire de ceux qui sont morts dans le cadre du jour J du EÊCBSRVFNFOUFO/PSNBOEJF JMZBBOT

Thousands of hand-knitted poppies, courtesy of le Cercle de fermières, transformed the St-Joachim church into a commemorative tribute to Flanders Fields, in France, over the November 10 weekend. A special Sunday morning Remembrance service honoured the memory of veterans, past, present, and future, and also paid tribute to the 75th anniversary of D-Day, and the 10th anniversary of the passing of Cpl.
