Winter 2025 was filled with celebration, connection, and creativity at Strathpine Aged Care, with residents, families, and staff sharing in a vibrant season of activity and heartwarming community spirit. Community Happenings Winter

Festivities and Cultural Celebrations Residents journeyed the globe from the comfort of home aboard the Spirit of Strathpine cruise, exploring Italy, France for Bastille Day, Brazil’s carnival, and even Scotland – complete with themed food, games, music, and bingo. The EKKA Day celebration was a standout, with a petting zoo, Dagwood Dogs, popcorn, strawberry ice cream, and good old-fashioned fun. The courtyard was abuzz with families, friends, and fabulous outfits. We also honoured NAIDOC Week with damper baking, lemon myrtle cookies, and Indigenous art. Special birthdays for Doug, Athol, Maureen, and Clarrie brought music, cake, and heartfelt wishes. 5

Community Happenings Winter

Creative and Musical Expression Residents showcased their talents at the Resident Art Showcase, from painting to woodwork. Music filled the halls through regular Happy Hours, concerts by Jose Harcourt and Jayde Schembri, and performances by U3A’s Sophisticated Folk and Rob Stevenson. A high-energy 80s disco night brought sparkle and dancing to the activity room. Therapy dog Rosie continued to warm hearts with her fortnightly visits, and armchair tennis and craft groups kept spirits active and minds engaged.

Excursions and Outings Winter saw residents enjoying scenic bus trips to Woody Point, Redcliffe, Samford Valley, Old Petrie Town, and The Sands Social. Whether indulging in seafood, tea and treats, or ice cream by the sea, each trip offered laughter and relaxation. Our friends from Aspley Aged Care also joined us for a lovely morning tea visit. 6

Community Happenings Winter

Wellbeing and Togetherness Music Therapy with Jose Harcourt, gardening sessions, nail pampering, and pet therapy added a soothing touch to winter days. Weekly buffets, Czech pancake mornings, and high teas gave residents more reasons to gather and enjoy. We said fond farewells to beloved team members Robyn and Manpreet, while warmly welcoming new faces to our Strathpine family.

Heartfelt Moments From fundraising over $1,000 for cancer support during Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea to preparing care packages for Nourish Street Inc., our community continued to show compassion and unity. As winter wraps up, one thing is clear — at Strathpine Aged Care, every season brings new reasons to smile.

Message from Clinical Care Coordinator Hi, my name is Trudy Loveday and have been working at Strathpine for a few weeks now Meet Trudy, your new Clinical Care Coordinator as your Clinical Co-Ordinator. I feel very privileged to work at a such a lovely community. Everyone has made me feel very welcome. I have been working in the Aged Care Industry for the past 30 odd years. I have done a lot of other work in-between but have always gone back to Aged Care. I grew up in Tasmania, the Apple Isle, only moving to the mainland when my children were very young. My dad was a police Sergeant in Tasmania and a champion rower. I also rowed, had my own skulling boat made and won the Championship in Skulling. I remember dad used to make me get out of bed every morning at 5am rain, hail or shine to go rowing on the Derwent river. Dad would take off in his skull and leave me to skull up and down the river under the Tassie Bridge. I then decided to scuba dive and joined the scuba diving club in Tasmania. I enjoyed wreck diving, recovery diving and night diving. The waters in Tasmania are beautiful for diving, although quite cold. Now I enjoy the smaller things, such as family dinners, enjoying my Grandchildren, riding my Harley, gardening, renovating and working with a wonderful team and all the lovely people that live here. It is still taking me awhile to get to know you all so have some patience with me, I know I can be frustrating at times. I forgot to mention my second half is a nurse in Mental Health and also a wonderful cook. I can go home everyday and say 'what's for dinner?' and he always comes up with something delicious. He also cooks the fortnightly family dinners and Christmas dinners. I hope like anything he doesn't have to work this Christmas because I think I have forgotten how to cook. Trudy Clinical Care Coordinator 10 Trudy

ACED Day 2025 On Aged Care Employee Day 2025, the red carpet was rolled out to honour the everyday heroes who make aged care so special. From carers to chefs, cleaners, lifestyle teams, administration and maintenance, every staff member was celebrated for their dedication, compassion and resilience.

Staff lit up the red carpet with their best moves, sharing plenty of cheers, laughter and flowers along the way. Their kindness and commitment touch the lives of older Australians and their families each day, and this moment was a heartfelt way to say thank you – not just today, but every day.

Meet the Team Hollie

What do you enjoy most about working here? I love that when I finish the day I feel like I have made a very rewarding difference. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Going on adventures with my hubby

and twins. In my spare time I like to look up my family history. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be? I would love to see the animals in the wild in Africa

There are a host of weird collective nouns to identify groups of African animals in the bush.

A crash of rhino A dazzle of zebra A coalition of cheetah

A prickle of porcupine A leap of leopards A cackle of hyena
