According to rumour, the Bentley store on Cameron Street in Hawkesbury is getting ready to close up shop. The bag and luggage retailer announced a restructuring plan back in 2019 that included store closures and layoffs, and this may be
the next step in that plan. Bentley’s last day in Hawkesbury could be February 4 at the latest, although if the store sells out of luggage sooner, it will close before then. A total of 30 employees would be affected by the closure, with five working in the retail store and 25 working in the warehouse. The warehouse would close a month after the retail store. Staff at the retail store was unable to comment on the rumours, and the Bentley head office in Montréal did not respond to either phone or email inquiries in time for publication. However, there is now a large ‘For Rent’ sign outside of the store.
Although unconfirmed, rumours abound that Hawkesbury’s Bentley store may be closing soon.

Similar to dash cams, school bus safety cameras would monitor outside vehicles and provide evidence in the event of an accident. During a meeting on December 15, trustees with the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) passed a motion to call on upper-tier municipal governments to mandate the use of stop-arm cameras on school buses through the Provincial Offences Act. The motion was tabled by Trustee Bill .BD1IFSTPO 8BSE5XP XIPOPUFEIPX some drivers will illegally pass stopped school buses, putting children in danger. MacPherson also drives a school bus in Lanark County near Perth, and he reported that six such illegal passes have occurred to him as he driving his school bus in the past month alone, including the morning of the board meeting. “It was one of those moments that school bus drivers do not like to remember,” he said. “On a scale of one-to-10, it was an eight on the danger level.” In 2020, Ontario passed legislation to allow stop-arm cameras to be installed on buses, and to allow the footage to be used in court. This is not mandated. Upper-tier municipalities must implement the legisla- tion through local bylaws before it can go into effect. The end of 2021 saw the debut of made-in-Vankleek Hill documentary-style online stories full of hope, curiosity, and enthusiasm courtesy of several local young filmmaker/journalists. “The idea is to produce ‘feel-good ar- ticles’, said Janie Renée, project co-ordinator. “It was something that is doable in times of a pandemic.” The project received funding from the Prescott-Russell Innovation Fund and the Creative Centre in Vankleek Hill provided the work space for several local students and their mentor/partners. The students received workshop training on interviewing techniques, editing their videotape footage and doing the layout work, and producing a finished video interview suitable to attract and entertain an online audience. The project began with 12 teams of student videographer and mentor. Eight teams finished their production by the December deadline for putting the completed podcasts online. QR codes were created to allow viewers to access the podcasts through their mobile phones and other devices and all of the podcasts became available on :PV5VCF%FDFNCFS GPSPOMJOFWJFXFST everywhere. The podcasts became available later in the month through Sound Cloud and Balados Québec. These young documentarians chose a wide variety of subjects for their individual podcast efforts. Lyn Duplantie decided on music as her subject and interviewed Denis Charron, a Canadian Armed Forces veteran, on the topic. “He used music as part of his (personal) therapy,” Duplantie said. “I thought he’d be a very good person to interview.” Christopher Duplantie did three interviews with three different people to provide the depth he felt his podcast subject needed. “I wanted to find out what technology people felt they just could not do without,” he said. Sarah Shannon was one of Chris Duplan- tie’s interview subjects. Her camera is her essential piece of technology.

Grande dame, femme empatique, ouverte et tolérante, toujours tournée vers les autres, elle était dotée d’une grande écoute et était appréciée de tous. Elle laisse un grand vide dans nos cœurs et dans nos vies.
