We all would like a bright, prosperous, and joyful future; therefore, it is helpful to realise that our present situation is a result of our past activities and decisions. And although we cannot do anything about our past, we can act today to ensure our future. We must also realise it is useless to dream about the future unless we act on decisions today so that our future will be as we would like it to be. The healthiest approach is to plan our future today and to take action today to implement that plan. As we implement that plan, we must take a long-term perspective. In other words, we must “act with the end in mind” and we must be committed to “stay the course.” As we make investments today for the long term, we must not always expect an immediate return. A mistake that some people make is that of working and acting only for the “here and now.” In other words, they make investments only for an immediate return. Therefore, if they do not get an immediate return on their activities, they withdraw the investment. Such an investment strategy is shortsighted and does little to ensure a bright future. Can Impact the Future! You Can’t Change the Past, but You Sure

AMESSAGE FROMCEO FRANK VANDERSLOOT

Unfortunately, it is the nature of some of mankind to focus on the past instead of the future. Many people dwell in the past, thinking about what could have been or should have been. They agonise over opportunities lost or mistakes they’ve made or others have made. They spend their present in the past, regretting. They struggle with the process of forgiving and forgetting. Often they find that the most difficult people to forgive are themselves. And because they spend their present in the past, they not only lose the present, but they lose the future as well. How unfortunate! How tragic! The fallacy of living in the past is so evident and the cost so high you would think people would avoid doing so—but once they get themselves into the rut, it’s hard to get out. There are others who live only in the future, dreaming about what might happen to them someday but never taking action today to make sure that dream comes true. The costs of dreaming about the future but not taking any action to affect that future are also great. Life is so precious that it seems a crime to waste it away either in regretting the past or aimlessly dreaming about the future.

Even though there is a tremendous opportunity to earn large sums of money from the one-time bonuses, let’s remember to have a long-term perspective, to be building and acting on your future and to remember that the future is in growing your customer base, which will bring you residual income for years to come. Like the Wall Street investor, we need to take a long-term approach in building this business. We should not take much stock in how much money we made this month, but in how much we grew our customer base this month. The long-term benefit is from the residual income that will be generated each month from each customer. The first 30 years of Melaleuca’s history have been phenomenal. You may not yet have taken advantage of this tremendous opportunity like you could have. You may not have invested much effort in building a Melaleuca business. You may regret that you have not done more with your business. But you cannot do anything about the past. It does no good to spend time thinking about how your life would be different today if you would have acted on this opportunity sooner. But it is good to remember: If we want a bright future tomorrow, we must take action today. If we do not take action today, we may find ourselves, 10 years from now, regretting this very moment. Don’t let that happen! Make a decision. Develop your business plan. Take action today! Pick up the phone and begin building your future!

Most of the money that is made in the stock market is made by those who implement long-term investment strategies. They know that companies are growing and they can see the day that these companies will progress to the point of bringing them a substantial return on their investment. So they are investing their dollars today because they are willing to wait for what they are confident will be a return on their investment in the future. They are acting today to ensure their future. Yes, they know that there is a risk. In some cases they are risking their entire investment, but they are willing to take that risk because they are confident of the future of that investment. Such long-term investment strategies have made thousands of millionaires over the past few decades. For those who do not already have wealth, I know of an opportunity that will provide greater returns at a much lower risk than the stock market. This opportunity also takes a long-term investment strategy. Those who have a “here-and-now,” “get-rich-quick” philosophy will not benefit from this programme. This investment is not one of money, but of time. An investment of time in building a Melaleuca business has created wealth for a huge number of people. To date, Melaleuca has paid out more than $4 billion to thousands who have worked tirelessly to build an organisation of happy, loyal Melaleuca customers. The benefit to them is the month-after-month residual income that is created by the monthly purchases of those customers. It is so rewarding to see the wealth that families have created for themselves from Organisation Commissions, Advancement Bonuses, Mentoring Bonuses, Leadership Growth Bonuses, and Car Bonuses!

The right way to use social media in your business. How to Go Social M elaleuca is a business centered on relationships. The core of what we do involves connecting with others, understanding their wants and needs, and finding ways to help them improve their lives. Now more than ever, our unique business model aligns perfectly with current consumer trends. A growing number of consumers are tuning out traditional advertising and relying instead on recommendations from others. A recent Nielsen study found that 84 percent of us trust word-of-mouth recommendations from friends and family over any other source. Forbes magazine is calling this trend the “birth of the referral economy.” More than ever, we’re looking to our friends for advice on where to shop, eat, travel, and so much more. This makes Melaleuca a natural fit! Our business is built on word-of-mouth referrals from smart, engaged consumers—like you. After all, every Melaleuca customer is referred by another Melaleuca customer. And one of the key resources you have in a referral economy is social media. When done right, social media can help build your contact list, identify needs, and generate interest. But like any tool, there is a right and a wrong way to use social media. 3 Keys to Success on Social Media 1. Strengthen Relationships Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat help you connect with friends, share information and ideas, and meet other people with similar interests and goals. They’re a great way to stay connected with what’s happening in the lives of those you love. Social media also helps you better identify needs and goals. You can go online for ideas on how you can better approach someone offline. For example, your friend who posts about training for a half marathon might be interested in Melaleuca’s sports nutrition products. Your old co-worker whose toddler used their creative skills on the new sofa will definitely want to know about Sol-U-Mel Stain Remover.

A Good Product Story 1. Shares personal experience 2. Includes the product brand name 3. Has photos when possible or applicable 4. Doesn’t mention Melaleuca by name or include a call to action 3. Create Interest Social media is a great way to create interest in Melaleuca. The key is to help people see how building a Melaleuca business has enhanced your life. Maybe you paid off your car loan two years early or took your family on your first real holiday. Social media is a great place to share milestones like these and when people hear about all the good things happening in your life, it’s only natural for them to be curious. It helps them see the real-life benefits of a Melaleuca business. Think about what a post like this would be for your family. How has Melaleuca enhanced your life? Remember that specific events and milestones are more powerful than sweeping, general statements. And remember, the focus of these posts is how your life has improved. Avoid telling others how to purchase the product in the post and avoid using the company’s name. Remember that the key is to create interest, not gain a reputation as the friend who floods others’ social feeds with posts about products or working from home. Your friends aren’t following you on social media so they can read nonstop posts about your business. In fact, most of them will begin hiding your posts or even unfollow you if you behave this way.

Your neighbour who’s looking for part-time work might be interested in Melaleuca’s member referral programme. You can also use social media to build your contact list and meet people who have similar lifestyles and goals. Social media platforms like Facebook, Meetup, and others have a wide variety of groups dedicated to various hobbies and interests, whether you’re into cycling, knitting, organic farming, cooking, photography, community service, day trading, and so much more. These groups are a springboard for building relationships and identifying needs. While your first connection might be online, the goal is to create a relationship offline. 2. Share Product Stories If you go to an amazing new restaurant, chances are you’re going to tell your friends about it. The same goes for a major sale at your favourite clothing store or a movie you think they’d enjoy. It’s normal for us to share information and resources we think will benefit those we care about. In fact, it would be kind of weird if you didn’t tell your friends about the amazing cleaner that saved your carpet from a giant grape juice stain. Very few things are as powerful as your personal experience. Skeptics can try to dispute studies and benefits, but they can’t deny your personal experience. For example, if taking the Peak Performance Pack every day has given you increased energy no one can really argue that fact. This doesn’t mean that what happens to you is guaranteed to happen to everyone, but it gives potential customers a tangible example of what is possible. Do not exaggerate claims or share anecdotes that directly or indirectly claim to treat or cure disease or medical conditions. You’ll find it’s most effective to share experiences that the majority of other customers are also likely to experience. Just remember, when sharing a product story you don’t want to include a “call to action,” such as telling readers to call you, visit a website, or make a purchase. Sales tactics like these come across as disingenuous and distract your readers from the very real benefits you’ve experienced. Simply share your experience and excitement.

2. Making It All About You Just because you aren’t having a conversation in real time doesn’t mean your interactions in social media should be one-sided. If you’re going to form real relationships and identify others’ goals and needs, then you need to ask questions and look for ways you can help. Get to know your contacts both online and in person. Spend as much time listening as you do talking; this includes liking and commenting on others’ posts on a regular basis. And never approach someone with an opportunity based on how it will benefit you. 3. Focusing on Money, Melaleuca, or Getting Enrolments This is something you see representatives from MLM companies do frequently. They post pictures of their cheques or that of a high-earner in their organisation, along with a post that says something like, “You too can make $50,000 with Yum Shakes! Ask me how!” While seeing a cheque with a lot of zeroes behind the number can be very impressive, it’s not the kind of marketing that attracts lifelong customers or business builders. Nor does it reflect a company whose goal is to enhance lives. Rather than focusing on money, focus on what your extra income has allowed you to do. As I said earlier, sharing genuine, heartfelt stories is both appropriate and powerful. Just make sure the focus of these stories is how the quality of your life improved and not about a big cheque you received or getting people to sign up. You never want to reference income, push the company, or include a direct call to action . See the examples posted on Melaleuca’s Instagram feed for ideas on how to do this right. How to Get Started I’m a huge fan of the power of social media. It’s an awesome tool! And I know it can help you grow your business. The key is using it in the right way. Try starting small with just one or two product or lifestyle posts each week. Remember the three keys to a successful post. For additional help, review Melaleuca’s guidelines for building your business online at Melaleuca.com in the Download & Print centre . There’s never been a better time to share Melaleuca, and social media is just one of the many tools that can help you enhance lives.

3 Pitfalls to Avoid 1. Being Disingenuous

Imagine an old friend from high school, someone you haven’t talked to in years, reaches out to you on Facebook. You’re excited to reconnect. You can see from their profile picture that your children are roughly the same age. Maybe they even live in a community not far from you. You remember all the good memories from high school and you think how fun it would be to get together for coffee and catch up. Now imagine that same friend, only minutes after you’ve accepted their friend request, includes you in a mass invite to her online nail party. How do you feel now? Are still you excited to catch up or are you starting to feel a little wary? Maybe you’re even questioning the motive behind that friend request. One of the worst mistakes you can make on social media is forgetting the social aspect. The whole point of sites like Facebook and Instagram is to interact and connect with those you care about. And we can all tell when someone isn’t genuinely interested in our life or needs. The same goes for joining group pages or events. The goal should be to meet other people with similar interests, not spamming the group with unsolicited advertising.

Senior Director: The power to change your life

by Daniel Wood, General Manager

It is stories like this that inspire people. Normal people with dreams and belief taking control of their life and deciding what it’s going to be like. Are you going to take control of your life? Or will you be okay with what you get, working long hours, making someone else rich? You can do it but you have to decide to do it. Then, you need to really believe it will work no matter what obstacles, fears and failures you encounter. Finally, you need to work on it every day, with passion and enthusiasm. Take a moment, right now. Are you going to change your life by advancing to Senior Director?

possibly better than anyone. As a result, she has started something in Bordertown that is changing lives, it’s very, very special and it has rewarded Hayley with a Senior Director advancement of her own—well done Hayley, you’re a star! This culture of possibility and positivity is probably best demonstrated by Ashleigh and Ricky Ciampa. They’ve only been with Melaleuca for a couple of months but in March, they double advanced—in Pacesetter timeframe—to Director 4. It was my pleasure to present Ashleigh with her advancement cheque last month and it will be a moment I’ll never forget. Ashleigh had worked hard in March—really, really hard and her expectations for her earnings were high. When I brought her up to the front of the room, in front of her support team and the leaders she had helped, she was full of anticipation, it was exciting… and then… I flipped over her cheque… revealing $11,610! Imagine that—no, I mean really imagine that—partnering with a company for a couple of months and getting a cheque for one month’s work for over eleven grand! Ashleigh’s mind was racing, her reaction was physical and she was shaking. Right then and there she saw her future and she knew it was real! When someone has an experience like this their belief improves immensely, in turn immensely improving the likelihood they’ll go all the way to Senior Director and beyond. It really is the moment lives change!

March marked six months since we launched the Pacesetter Senior Director Strategy. When we put it together it was our sincere hope that it would enhance the lives of many, many Aussie’s and Kiwi’s. We want you to be able to choose when you work, how much you earn and who you work with. Melaleuca gives you freedom, real freedom and in this day-and-age, that’s a rare and beautiful thing. How do you earn it? Simple, by helping people have a better life. This is profound, I can think of no better way to earn an income, and if you’re great at it and you put your heart and soul into it, you’ll prosper financially, physically and even spiritually. Many were sceptical about the strategy and that’s normal, human nature I guess. But, I believed it would happen, so did my team at the corporate office and many of our existing leaders. It’s so important when you want to achieve something that you believe it with all your heart and work towards it every day. That’s how dreams turn into reality. Doubt leads to rejection; rejection leads to failure. This is universal, ask anyone who is successful in any field — belief always comes before success ! In March, our dreams and the belief we had put into them started to turn into reality. Hayley Harding’s work in Bordertown, SA could well become folklore, you’ll understand as you read this edition of Leadership in Action . Hayley is an incredible leader who has grasped the Pacesetter Senior Director Strategy

Yours,

NEW BEGINNINGS NEW OPPORTUNITIES

11 MAY 2017 | MELALEUCA.COM

It is with great excitement that we congratulate Melaleuca of Australia and New Zealand's newest

Senior Directors Hayley and Ben Harding

Lives change when people advance to Senior Director.

They earn a great income which gives them freedom—freedom to choose what they want to do with their life. They earn this wonderful life by being exceptional at one thing, helping people! This is the story of Melaleuca’s newest Senior Directors: Hayley and Ben Harding from Bordertown, South Australia.

12

MAY 2017 | MELALEUCA.COM

Like many Aussie families, the Hardings lived a comfortable life but only through huge sacrifice, as Hayley says, “Ben spent ten years doing fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) work in the mines. He did two weeks on, one week off, taking 70 flights a year. His absence was extremely taxing on all of us but mostly the kids (four-year-old Havannah and three-year-old River).” The Hardings longed for a family life together —somewhere out in the country with land, horses, a chicken coop and clean air, the kind of life Ben and Hayley had enjoyed so much as kids. Many people dream of having a better life but it takes someone with real open-mindedness to realise what an incredible opportunity Melaleuca is from the get-go. Hayley has that quality: “When Carole showed me the presentation, it was like a lifeline, I was given a glimmer of hope that I could change our situation. I decided instantly that I would build a Senior Director business, bring Ben home for good and give my kids a ‘normal’ life with daddy raising them too!” It’s that reason or “Why” that Hayley has treasured in her mind every day that has helped her see this through. Hayley had built her residual income to the point where they could start to turn their dreams into reality. Like most people with a family, the ‘dream home’ was high on the agenda. After a a few

months of searching the Hardings found “Chesneypark,” a beautiful country residence set on two-and-a-half acres in Bordertown, South Australia. Their first step to their dream lifestyle complete, Hayley's second and most important goal came true—Ben hung up his hard hat for the final time just weeks after the settlement of their new house. “It was both the scariest and happiest day of our lives.” Says Hayley. “Our dream lifestyle was becoming a reality. But I knew the move was a huge gamble. I knew no one in Bordertown and to live, we still needed to get to at least Senior Director!” According to Hayley it was time to get uncomfortable: “It would have been easy to say ‘I don’t know anybody, so I’ll take a month off’. But, (like most winners) I chose to see December as an opportunity. I put myself out there to meet people: I went to play groups, music classes and the kinder gym. Afterwards, we went for a milkshake in town, rode scooters at the skate park, and got a haircut.”

13 MAY 2017 | MELALEUCA.COM

“I explained to them that they needed to enrol with a Home Conversion Pack and if they did, we would get them to Director within a couple of in-home presentations —so they did!” Said Hayley. “This is the key to success —not setting the bar too low, and not giving them chance to doubt their decision. The quicker they advanced to Director, the sooner they would believe it was possible to go further. I never let Laura or Ashleigh know they had three months to achieve Director. I instilled in them that they would advance to Director 3 in three months and earn over $5,000! I told them I was there every step of the way until they achieved what I had promised and that it would give them the best possible story to share with everyone they enrolled thereafter.” And then came ‘Magic March’ when hard work and determination and duplication resulted in three Pacesetter Directors, three Pacesetter Directors 2 and Ashleigh double advancing to Director 3 and Director 4 in Pacesetter timeframe. “This doesn’t just happen by chance, it happens because you want something so bad, you’ll move mountains to give yourself and your team the life you all deserve. Seeing my team, the people I’d helped, be presented with cheques of $1,200–$10,000 plus for one month’s work made all the sacrifices worth it: late nights, every mac and cheese meal, untouched piles of laundry, it's so personally satisfying!”

“Every time, I spent an extra five minutes getting to know the locals. Before I knew it, I had over 40 names on my contact list; it was a new beginning and there was no time to waste.” Hayley had a big reason but she also has immense belief in herself and Melaleuca. Imagine hearing this during an overview close, “This is going to spread through here like wild fire! I guarantee you that! I’m looking for people who want to make $100K this year and own a brand new car. If that is you, let’s get to work! I AM going to earn a million dollars with this company! And I would love to help you earn it too. Are you in?” Almost half of Bordertown heard this approach and its success was immediate. Hayley enrolled ten customers in January and found two potential business builders: Laura Nash and Ashleigh Ciampa who were ready to get to work and achieve Senior Director in Pacesetter timeframe.

“After ten years of FIFO, it’s surreal to be at home every night, tucking the kids into bed. That’s the part about Melaleuca that is truly priceless —the power to choose.”

MAY 2017 | MELALEUCA.COM

After the tears of joy and looks of disbelief from her team, the icing on the cake was Hayley’s and Ben’s advancement to Senior Director. “I have had Senior Director in my sight for so long, it sure is nice to finally be here. I pinch myself every morning that I get to wake up next to my beautiful family and not be rushed by an alarm or daily schedule or have to surrender my time to an employer. I shudder to think where our lives would be if I had chosen not to listen to Carole, and not to take a chance on Melaleuca. I love my life and am overwhelmed with the feeling of joy that I now get to help other families achieve what I have— freedom!” Just like their marriage, their Melaleuca business is a real partnership. Ben may not be doing the presentations (yet) but his support of Hayley is unwavering as is his admiration: “I'm so proud of Hayley and all that she has achieved—being home every day I now see how hard she works. Her success has not come easily, but it has been 100% worth it! After ten years of FIFO, it’s surreal to be at home every night, tucking the kids into bed. That’s the part about Melaleuca that is truly priceless — the power to choose.” says Ben. People are always looking for ‘the secret’ to building a successful Melaleuca business, so we asked Ben and Hayley to share their wisdom, “No one's journey is the same, people face different challenges—some big, some small —but with hard work and focus, you will get there. This is real, it WILL happen for you—I know because I’ve just seen it happen.” Explains Ben.

“Don’t. Give. Up!” Says Hayley. “Believe in yourself and don’t give in at the first sign of a challenge, because there will be many! This business is truly worth overcoming your fears, insecurities and set-backs—your dream life is worth much more than that, right?” With Senior Director under their belts, Ben retired from FIFO work, and their dream home a reality, one might ask, well what now? “I plan on getting Ben involved and doing presentations before the year is out! Together, we will continue to show people that by taking a chance on something different, you can truly change your life. In doing so, we will develop Pacesetter Senior Directors, and achieve Executive Director ourselves. 2017 is going to be a huge year for the Hardings—we are only just warming up!”

But, I love meeting new people (they’re rare in our small town!) so I invited her over for coffee.” This coffee date would mark a very special moment in Ashleigh’s life, one where a true friend was made and the start of something special would begin. “I liked Hayley straight away! She was so bubbly and friendly and someone that I would want to be around—we had fun together. For that reason, I was willing to hear her out. As Hayley got into her presentation, I started to like what I was hearing; her passion and enthusiasm for the products was so obvious, which made me want to try them too.” Excited about the products, Ashleigh reveals that it was Hayley’s story and absolute unwavering belief that had her thinking about building a Melaleuca business. “When she talked about the Melaleuca business opportunity, it was so clear that she loved her job, so I was intrigued.” Said Ashleigh. “My husband works long hours in his own business, so hearing about howHayley has been able to contribute to her household and bring Ben home from FIFO really resonated with me.” Ashleigh’s decision to trust in Hayley’s unwavering belief proved to be a good one, as the coming two months lead to a whirlwind of coffee dates, in-homes and laughter. “We had so much fun travelling around and meeting new people! I really started to see what it took to be successful with this business, and where this could lead.” Explained Ashleigh. Double advancing to Pacesetter Director 3 and 4 inMarch, it was with shaking hands and a heart full of gratitude to her entire team that Ashleigh accepted her $11,610.81 commission cheque. “The last three months have been absolutely

So when a few weeks later she rang me about a health and wellness company, “I’ll be honest – I had decided that I wasn’t interested in whatever it was that she was selling . ”

life changing for me, and my family and I just feel so grateful to have met Hayley!”

Senior Director : Real income enhancing lives

To start the business Tina impressed upon Sharlene that in-home meeting were the way to go, as Sharlene puts it, “Tina made things very clear, she said, ’Get eight people in a room, I’ll do the presentation, and you’ll be a Director in a day!’” So with those basic instructions and the desire to change her life Sharlene enrolled on December 31st and with the help of her family and friends, advanced to Director the exact same day! Like all the very best Melaleuca stories, Sharlene’s journey didn’t stop at Director, she had much bigger goals in mind. In January, she advanced to Director 2, February she advanced to Director 3 and then, in the magical month of March, she double advanced to Director 5 all in Pacesetter timeframe. Her cheque for March was $8,793 making her total earning $14,995 in just three short months —now that’s a story worth sharing! It wasn’t just the money though, as Sharlene puts it, “I get to help myself and my family by helping other people; I didn’t even dream this could be possible. Melaleuca’s culture is totally unique, there is nothing else like it in the world.” So many of her friends and community have joined her and they’re doing amazingly well too. New Pacesetter Director 3 Eseta Tevaga earned $5,703, Pacesetter Directors 2 Jasmin Benioni and Angela Anderson earned $1,781 and $1,538 respectively, and Pacesetter Director Suitaka Vaka earned $761 – most of these amazing cheques were earned in their very first month with Melaleuca… we can’t wait to see how the story continues! For Sharlene – like so many others – the goal is Senior Director and in Pacesetter timeframe. In Sharlene’s words, “A successful Melaleuca business gives you choice in your life. To be able to spend time with my family especially my grandkids and to travel, I love to travel and I’ll probably be able to travel for free with all Melaleuca’s incentive trips. Doing these things with money so that I can enjoy them is such a privilege!” The way Sharlene is moving, the sky is the limit, perhaps she’ll be Senior Director this month, Executive Director this year and maybe Australia and New Zealand’s first ever National Director! Whatever her goals we’re honoured to have her on board and wish her and her team huge success for the future

Pacesetter Director 5 $8793.47 cheque

SHARLENE LESA Director 5, NSW Sharlene had a tough year in 2016. She lost her mum, auntie and sister in just a few short months. On top of this the MLMbusiness she had put her faith and effort into turned out— like so many others—to be hype and not a lot of real income. Times were hard and Sharlene was a little lost on how to turn things around. Then, during the Christmas break, good fortune came to Sharlene through her friend Tina Hockmuth. Tina was also a casualty from Sharlene’s previous MLM business so at first she was reluctant to even look at Melaleuca. However, through Tina’s passion and persistence Sharlene gradually developed an interest inMelaleuca, particularly the 32 year track record and the high residual income that every day, normal people were earning. Tina gave Sharlene belief, that Melaleuca really was different and that she could change her life it.

Melaleuca will allow me the power of choice; my time is my own,

and my family can now be my priority.

“Hayley walked into my life at the most perfect time. My world had changed in so many ways, not just with work but in my personal life as well. She told me what Melaleuca could offer.”

“I simply thought, if I don’t take this opportunity then someone else will.”

Wow am I ecstatic that I said yes! Trusting in Senior Director Hayley Harding’s vision, Julia and her enroller and close friend Director 4 Ashleigh Ciampa set about helping the families of their home town to switch stores to better, safer products. “Hayley told me to get my friends and family in the room, so that’s what I did. The first enrolment had me ecstatic, and reinforced for me that this is simply about helping people switch stores, not selling. After that first experience, and I just wanted to do it all over again, so that is what we did.” Advancing to Director 3 in Pacesetter time, Julia’s cheque of $7,906.05 was presented to her by General Manager Daniel Wood among many happy tears and looks of disbelief. “I knew it was going to be big, but not THAT big! The money just means so much to us —that looming fear of losing our second income fromWestpac has just disappeared. I now realise that I have the ability to double my original wage over the next six months. More than that, Melaleuca will allow me the power of choice; my time is my own, and my family can now be my priority.”

JULIA & MARK PAECH Director 3, SA Working as a banker at the local Westpac branch of her the rural town of Bordertown, South Australia, Julia was dealt a blow at the start of February 2017. “After almost eight years of working at Westpac, I was told that the branch would be closing and that I had two options; be retrenched or move.” Having put down roots in the picturesque town of just 2,500 people, the latter was not an option for Julia and her young family. Furthermore, the opportunity for employment in such a small town was severely limited.

This business is real, and there’s real money to be earned that really changes people’s lives.

$938.06 arrived in the mail, I was absolutely blown away! I knew it was time to kick it into second gear.” Said Esther. With news of her Director cheque spreading through her friends and family, Esther certainly put her pedal to the metal, helping her close friend Jasmin Benioni advance to Director and Director 2 in March. “Seeing Jasmin receive a cheque of $1,780.50 in her first month just solidified to me that this business is real, and there’s real money to be earned that really changes people’s lives.” Said Esther. But nothing could prepare Esther for what came next; her double advancement to Pacesetter Director 2 and Director 3 accompanied by a cheque of $5,703.13. “I was just so overwhelmed when I sawmy cheque! The money just couldn’t have come at a better time with Easter, a funeral to pay for and the usual bills piling up.” “My Melaleuca cheque gave me room to breathe in a time that I really needed it the most.” With Pacesetter Director 4 firmly within her sights, Esther reflects upon what the past twomonths have taught her. “As a Pacific Islander there is a saying ' o le ala i le pule o le tautua ', which translates to ' In order to be a great leader youmust be of service .' Helping Jasmin advance to Director 2 and subsequently helping myself advance to Director 3 made me realise that its true – you only get what you give, and I plan to give a whole lot more over the coming months onmy journey to Pacesetter Senior Director.”

ESTHER TEVAGA Director 3, NZ “ What do I have to lose?” was the mindset of newly advancing Pacesetter Director 3 Esther Tevaga when she decided to give Melaleuca a go. “It was News Years Eve, and my cousin Sharlene Lesa approached me about an opportunity to earn $100K plus a car in 12 months.” Said Eseta. “I must admit, it sounded too good to be true, but given my current financial situation I thought it was worth taking a look at.” Living week to week, and spending hours on the road as a regional sales manager for NZ Post, Esther described her beginning toMelaleuca as ‘slowly easing into first gear’. “Being so time poor, I worked fairly slowly to being with; I enrolled a couple of friends in January, and then another six in February with very little expectation as to what my reward would be. It’s all about

Relationships

F or example, people don’t buy insurance—they buy the peace of mind they feel when those they love are provided for. People don’t buy vehicles—they buy the pleasure of luxury, the comforting assurance of efficiency and safety, or the rush of adventure and romance. Products are the means to achieve emotional ends. Products may also be identity statements, communicating the message, “This is who I am.” And there is a deeper level involved. Beneath the feelings and the self-image that products provide, people buy products because they seek connection, and they believe certain products will help them create it. People want to be noticed, included, approved of, admired, liked, and loved. They seek relationships. That is the wonderful heart of Melaleuca! It is a business of relationships.

It isn’t a trick question, though it seems like one. When corporate sales managers quiz their sales representatives, “What are you selling?” the correct answer is not their product or service. Why? Because people don’t buy products; they buy feelings and identity— specifically, they buy the feeling a product gives them, and the identity they believe it imparts.

Melaleuca isn’t something you sell; it’s something you share by creating connections. By connecting with people and building a relationship, we discover the many ways Melaleuca can help them, and they experience and appreciate our genuine interest, being listened to and cared about, chosen and important. Selling is challenging—building relationships is easy. We are made for relationships. Making a connection is natural in any environment where two or more people are present. Acceptance and affection work miracles of healing and hope in the human heart. Isolation and exclusion can be cruel social prisons, and lives can starve and atrophy within them. The Melaleuca mission “to enhance the lives of those we touch by helping people reach their goals™” goes to the very centre of the human heart. We want to truly get to know everyone we know, and through them get to know others, and help them all achieve their heart’s desires. The mission is noble and global, and yet as simple as the first smile. Smiles are a renewable resource. They speak every language. They are sunshine and everyone warms in their presence. Begin with one. What Do You Say After Hello? Try letting them do the talking. Everyone has something on their heart or mind. Everyone has a story to tell. Be the one who listens and several benefits will accrue: you won’t have to worry about “making conversation”; you will give someone the great gift of being heard—people often find their own answers by talking their way to them; and your new friend will consider you a brilliant conversationalist though all you did was ask an occasional encouraging question. People don’t recall what you said as much as they remember how you made them feel. Being heard—feeling as if you matter to someone—feels wonderful. You can make everyone on your contact list feel that way. Remember that momentum is on your side. Connection is concentric—it widens continually outward, and the natural flow of it will carry you from one person’s life into the lives of people they know. What Now? Keep regular contact with everyone on your contact list. Once the challenge to connect is met, the next challenge is to sustain the connection. Make time for everyone. You may dedicate considerable time to helping an enthusiastic Marketing Executive build their business. You may keep in light touch with someone currently uninterested in even enrolling. But always keep in touch with everyone on your contact list. There is no such thing as “just a customer.” Just because a customer is a contented Category 1 today doesn’t mean they are not of high value to your business. Stories are common of a Marketing Executive keeping in touch with a

customer who politely but persistently said “no thank you” to the business, and one day when circumstances and needs changed, that person became a team player to shout about! Check occasionally to see if Category 1 customers are still satisfied with their shopping and product experience. Get together once in a while for a coffee conversation about life without a hint of business in it. Walk through the door often enough to keep it open. And remember the concentric circles of relationships. Keep in touch with them, and you will be keeping in touch with everyone in their life. Just because someone on your team isn’t a Pacesetter doesn’t mean they are not of high value either. There are many different rhythms and rates of speed in achieving success. Letting someone go at their own pace lets them be comfortably committed instead of stressed and thinking of quitting, and it frees you to help others who want to accelerate. Timing Is Everything Life is like the ocean, and can seem endlessly flat at first glance, but it is teeming with life and turbulent with motion. Stay in connection with people and you will become aware that everything changes eventually. Your friends may need a Melaleuca business someday. They may need the products. They may need...you. How can you be there for them if you allow the relationship to go cold? In building a business, it’s easy to look at others and mainly see their potential as business builders. See more than that. See a life in progress. All life’s roads have the potential to lead to Melaleuca because the benefits of a business are so applicable to all stages of life. Your patience will help you complete the Melaleuca mission in many more lives. Remember How Important You Are Occasional customer feedback reveals the sting of thinking they have disappointed their enroller. They usually base this painful impression on lack of follow-up, guidance, or even the once- warm friendship from the enroller. This suggests that the heart of any enrolment is the relationship. Remember how important you are! Consider how great your potential is to encourage success, or to make someone feel worthless, or forgotten. Friendship is a lifeline for the soul, and when it’s severed, the feeling of being adrift is painful. Keep in touch with everyone; be sensitive to their life events and feelings; respect their decisions. Life is long, life brings change, and every person on your contact list may someday be very grateful for your continued unconditional friendship. See to it that your friendship with every person on your contact list is in good health! You mean more to them than you realise, and you can offer them a way to achieve the goals they hold most dear when they are ready for it. When will that be? Whenever it is, you’ll be there. And being there is what relationships are all about.
