The intersections suggested are at Ste-Marie Road and South Russell Road. The Village of Casselman is doing well. Like its neighbouring municipalities, Casselman has welcomed the arrival of new residents. Located within the municipality of The Nation, Casselman has the highest concentration of Francophones in Ontario. At the last census, its population reached just over 3600 people. Neuf élèves de sept écoles du conseil scolaire catholique anglophone de l’est de l’Ontario (CDSBEO) ont participé à la sixième excursion annuelle d’exposition de Sandy Lake, en juin 2019, pour ensuite faire part de leurs expériences au conseil scolaire. Le CDSBEO et le conseil scolaire de Sandy Lake ont conclu une entente d’échange culturel avec un certain nombre d’élèves du CDSBEO, qui participent à une excursion dans la réserve isolée des Cris de Sandy Lake, dans le nord-ouest de l’Ontario. Casselman radiated joy and good humour for four days, and the cold did not stop thousands of visitors from taking part in the various activities that the 12 th edition of Casselman’s Christmas Festival offered. For years, Marie-Claire Ivanski gave her time and energy to help others, and make her community a better place to live. All her good deeds got their due, Saturday night, during the Russell Kin Club roast in her honour. “This woman has done so much for the community and is always the first to ask: ‘What can I do to help?’,” declared Doug Anthony, Kin Club event chairman. “This fundraiser (roast) proved exactly how much she does mean to our community and to so many individually.” Roasters fire up 5IFTUBHFGPSUIF/PWFNCFSGVOFWFOU XBTTFUVQBTBIBJSTBMPO i4BMPO:B:B :Bu XIFSFBMJUUMFGVOXBTQPLFEBU*WBOTLJT hair. Les plus jeunes ont eu la chance de rencontrer le père Noël et de lui demander ce qu’ils souhaitaient pour Noël. La Combattante , voilà le nom de la nouvelle bière qui a été brassée par Richard Ménard, propriétaire de la brasserie Étienne Brûlé à Embrun. Ébranlé par la mort de sa sœur Julie, décédée d’un cancer du sein, M. Ménard a tenu à s’impliquer pour cette cause. Il a donc dévoilé, le 13 novembre dernier, sa toute nouvelle création. Il a fait 1000 litres de cette bière, qui sert de collecte de fonds, puisque pour chaque bière en bouteille vendue, il versera 25 cents aux Amies pour la vie. Et pour chaque bière vendue en pression, un dollar sera également versé à l’organisme d’Embrun qui remettra, par la suite, la somme totale à la Société du cancer du sein. Contre les Panthères d’Embrun, le 28 novembre, Casselman n’a pas été aussi chanceux. Il faut dire que les Panthères ont commencé fort la rencontre en enfi- lant deux buts en première période. En deuxième, Embrun a conforté son avance avec le but Riley Carisse, son premier de la saison et le troisième pour son équipe. Le compte était alors de 3-0.

Les Vikings de Casselman ont fermé la porte à la victoire aux Jr Canadians d’Ottawa, mais n’ont pas été en mesure de répéter le même scénario contre les Panthères d’Embrun. Tout d’abord, contre Ottawa le 26 no- vembre dernier, les Vikings ont été plutôt timides lors de la première et de la deuxième période. Ottawa a pris une avance de deux buts en marquant un but dans chacune d’elle. Mais c’était sans compter sur le Viking Mikael Houde qui a réduit l’écart d’un but. C’était alors 2-1 pour Ottawa. En début de troisième période, Ottawa prenait les devants avec trois buts à un. Mais les joueurs de Casselman se sont réveillés en marquant leurs deuxième et troisième buts de la rencontre à quelques secondes

Mais ce sont finalement les Packers d’Arnprior qui ont eu le dernier mot. Et ce sont ces derniers qui ont ouvert la marque vers la fin de la première période grâce au but d’Andrew Cuglietta. De retour en deuxième, Embrun a trouvé la faille et
a réussi à égaler la marque lorsque Juno Grégoire a déjoué le gardien adverse, avec l’aide de Jake Rampton. Quatre minutes plus tard, Maverick Labrie s’est emparé seul de la rondelle pour se présenter devant le gardien d’Arnprior qu’il a habilement déjoué. Labrie donnait alors une avance d’un but aux Panthères avec la marque de 2-1. Cependant, Arnprior a ramené la marque à 2-2 grâce au but de Neil Duncan. Mais Embrun a repris son avance d’un but, en fin de deuxième, en
mettant la rondelle dans le filet adverse. C’était alors 3-2. Mais en troisième, les opposants d’Embrun ont réussi à marquer un but, leur gardien ne laissant aucune chance aux Panthères de reprendre l’avance. On a donc dû aller en prolongation, et c’est là que le match s’est joué. Malcolm Brassard s’est enfui seul avec la rondelle pour mettre un point final à la rencontre en déjouant le gardien des Panthères. Marque finale : 4-3.
Il s’en est fallu que de peu pour que les Panthères d’Embrun se sauvent avec la victoire, le 1er décembre dernier.

The December 1 weekend was not a good one for Saint-Isidore in the National Capital Junior Hockey League. Saint-Isidore lost 4-3 to the Bytown Royals in last Friday’s road match, then at home Sunday night, 3-1 to the Gatineau Hull-Volant. Scoring Friday night for St-Isidore against the Royals was Jakob Brunette with two goals and Ryan Wells with a single. Wells also assisted on one of Brunette’s goals. Also assisting on St-Isidore goals were Kevin Howson and Frédérik Laflèche. Joshua Ivanski was in the net. Scoring singles for Bytown were Jonathan Cauchon, Mathieu O’Toole, Luigi Peloso, and Joshua Renaud. Goal assists came from Peloso and Samuel Paquette. Danik Gervais guarded the net. Sunday’s lone goal for Saint-Isidore came from Jeremy Arbour, with help from Jacob Lamoureux and Alexis Leclerc. Dawson Irving was in the net. HOCKEY AU PROGRAMME SPORT-ÉTUDES À L’ESCALE

Ce programme est offert à tous les élèves de la 7 e à la 12 e année et mise, en tout premier lieu, non pas sur le niveau d’habileté de l’élève, mais plutôt sur le développement des habiletés. Mais pour l’année scolaire 2019-2020, ce sont les élèves de la 8 e et de la 9 e qui en profiteront en premier. L’objectif consiste à améliorer la confiance, les habiletés individuelles et l’estime de soi de l’élève athlète, en plus de lui offrir des occasions de développements scolaire et sportif. Pour Gabrielle Souçi, Jessie-Ann Ouimet et Layla Etts, 14 ans, toutes trois en 9 e année à L’Escale, ce programme les aidera à améliorer leur jeu compétitif. Elles ont déjà
plusieurs années d’expérience, et elles sont ravies de pouvoir travailler plus souvent sur la glace pour devenir meilleures. La directrice de l’école, Anne Simard, s’est dite très fière et heureuse que les élèves, filles et garçons, s’intéressent à cette nouveauté. Même son de cloche du côté de Jerrett DeFazio, responsable de Sécurité et services aux membres (Hockey Canada), qui a apporté son aide au conseil scolaire pour l’implantation du programme. Michel Gauthier est l’enseignant qui encadrera cette programmation au niveau de l’intermédiaire. Il a accepté de relever le défi d’entreprendre ce nouveau projet en collaboration avec Hockey Canada.
On attendait son lancement depuis quelque temps. Chose promise, chose due. Le programme de hockey de l’École secondaire catholique l’Escale, de Rockland, a été rendu public la semaine dernière. C’est à l’aréna de Clarence Creek que des représentants de l’école, du Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est de l’Ontario et de Hockey Canada ont fait l’annonce du nouveau programme sport-études, en présence des joueuses et joueurs déjà inscrits cette année.
It’s been promised for a long time and now it is official. The hockey program at École secondaire catholique l’Escale in Rockland was launched last week. Representatives for the school, the Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est de l’Ontario, and Hockey Canada announced the new study program at the Clarence Creek Arena. The program is available to all students in grades 7 to 12 and is not focused on the student’s skill level but rather on his or her skill development, but the focus for the first session of the program during the 2019-2020 term will be on students in grades 8 and 9. —photo Annie Lafortune
