Dear Club Members, As we are ringing in 2019, I’m filled with so many wonderful emotions. The Precious Moments Chapel is celebrating its 30th anniversary and I’m proud that I have been a part of the journey since the beginning. Throughout the decades, we have met countless families that have made Precious Moments a part of their lives and integrated the artwork, the park, the events and, most importantly, the message into their traditions. Last year was no exception. We had so many opportunities for our extended Precious Moments family to embrace the spirit of Sam Butcher’s ministry. In addition to the creative new gifts introduced for friends and loved ones to enjoy, we had a fun-filled Family Reunion Event at the Chapel in June, cruised through the Hawaiian islands in the Fall, and welcomed the holiday season with all the joy and merriment you could imagine. We are happy to share with you a bit of what we experienced on the cruise on page 15. With all the excitement of the Fall and Winter, we were not able to get out a final issue of MOMENTS Magazine last year. This issue is full of more news, photos, and information, just for you. For me, there are certain things I truly look forward to each year, with each season offering the comfort of traditions we’ve come to eagerly anticipate. As Spring’s arrival nears, thoughts of colorful Spring plantings, delicious Easter recipes, and the welcoming of new animal babies with my children all dance dreamily in my head. While Precious Moments might not directly be a part of every tradition we take part in, the spirit of the brand certainly is. When we keep a message of loving, caring, and sharing in our hearts, it shines through in all we do. A MESSAGE FROM PRECIOUS MOMENTS CREATOR, SamButcher
You just never know when the Holy Spirit will speak to you.
Decades ago, in the 1980s, Precious Moments creator, Sam Butcher, found himself surrounded by the most peaceful and serene setting near a small town in the Ozarks. He just knew God had a hand in placing him in that very spot. As he lay awake in bed that night, he was called to do something special with the hidden jewel he had stumbled upon. Taking a leap of faith, Sam moved his family. It wasn’t long before plans were drawn, permits were applied for, and construction began on what is now the Precious Moments Chapel in Carthage, Missouri. The hours, days, months, and years of painstaking painting were not easy, but Sam would tell you that every minute was worth it. The result was his gift of gratitude for God’s many blessings upon his life. He remains always thankful to the loyal Club Members who, through their support and encouragement, helped to make the Precious Moments Chapel possible. The murals you see today throughout the Chapel are from his faith-filled, heartfelt labor of love. Since the Chapel opened its doors in 1989, millions of people have visited. As you step inside, or walk the gardens, it is still Sam’s hope that everyone not only feels the Lord’s presence, but also His infinite mercy and love. Sam is so very glad that when the Holy Spirit spoke to him, he had the courage to listen. Everyone who has experienced the Chapel’s peace is equally grateful! As Sam continues his conversations with God, he keeps you all in his prayers. He fully appreciates all the prayers he receives in return, and humbly asks that they continue into the future.

T here is celebration in the air at the Precious Moments Chapel! The year 2019 marks 30 years since the Chapel first opened its doors to the public. This special anniversary is a tribute to the faithfulness and trust of the Christian roots of Precious Moments founding artist Samuel J. Butcher. Equally important as celebrating Mr. Butcher’s extraordinary gift to the Lord, is honoring the dedicated employees of the Chapel, and commemorating the lasting comfort and joy the Chapel has brought to all its visitors – the extended Precious Moments Chapel family.
Certainly, when the Chapel opened in June 1989 no one could have foreseen a family so filled to the brim with love for each other and for the Precious Moments Chapel. The memories from the past 30 years have created a remarkable and rich tapestry filled with lifetime friendships, good times, encouraging moments, hugs, tears, and the greatest love for each other. In fact, the devotion of the Chapel staff mingled with the faith of Chapel guests has inspired the annual Precious Moments Family Reunion Event that so many look forward to year after year.
The Chapel family would like to invite each of you to attend the 2019 Precious Moments Family Reunion Event, Celebrating Our Family Of Love, July 17 – 19 (pre-registration required). As has become customary, Full Packet attendees will receive an Event exclusive figurine. The 2019 Event figurine features a traditional paint palette and is, perhaps, the most unusual Family Reunion Event exclusive figurine of all. Titled May Your Heart Be FilledWith Peace, Love and Inspiration it will take you back to the early years of the Precious Moments collection. The figurine features unique elements from the Original 21 and has other clever details.
The staff is so grateful that you have chosen to not only embrace and support them as they share the message of God’s love, but also for the way so many have joined them in their precious endeavor. Hello Friends! We have some fun things planned for this issue. I answer a collector’s question about product development, we introduce an exciting photo contest, and I share stories from the Creative Department. Asked and Answered One collector asked how technology has changed the production process from what it was in the beginning to what it is today. In the very beginning, the art had to be mailed overseas where a master sculptor would sculpt each piece. Every change would require phone calls, packages going across the ocean, and later, faxed images of line art and directions. Now we have artists and product developers who can sit at a desk and draw on what looks like a computer screen. Everything is digital, so changes are simple, sending images overseas happens in nanoseconds, and groups of creative minds from around the globe can get together at the same time to brainstorm any issues that arise. As far as the actual sculpting goes, I have been working with Master Sculptor Hiko Maeda for about nine years now and I am constantly amazed at his talent. But with all artists, sometimes you need to see things through more than just your own eyes to make it the best that it can be. On sculpting days, Hiko, Jeremy Wyman (our Product Development Manager), and I are in the sculpting room together. Now that I have moved to Carthage, I have to be in the sculpting room on a video call, but we do the best we can. The three of us make a wonderful team. Technology has made this type of teamwork possible, but it is not perfect. Video distorts perspective, so without being able to fully trust the talent and opinions of Hiko and Jeremy, this type of arrangement would never work. So, the simple answer is that technology has dramatically reduced time and cost, but it is still up to the talent of the human beings behind the tech that determines good product.

Dear Club Members,
There is something about Spring that everyone loves. The earth comes alive again for those of us who live in colder climates. We start thinking about and planning our activities for the next few months whether it be Easter, perhaps a confirmation, vacations, or a good, old-fashioned Spring or Summer wedding. Precious Moments helps us to capture these special moments in our lives, causing us to literally stop and smell the flowers.
My time with Precious Moments has resulted in my desire to do exactly that. Running a business has been very demanding on my time, and I’ve often missed some of those precious moments with my family and my friends. After 45 years of work, it’s time for me to witness and enjoy more of those moments with my wife of 45 years, five children, seven grandchildren, 100-year-old mother, and other family and friends often put on the backburner during my career. It’s ironic this decision comes at a time when I am enjoying the best company I have had the honor to lead in my entire career!
My replacement as CEO, John Lanman, has already taken over the helm. I know you will like him as he exudes the very nature of our brand and is a heck of a business person to boot. The Butcher family has offered me a role on the Precious Moments Board, which I gladly accepted as we have numerous new initiatives in place to support the brand, and Precious Moments will always be a part of my soul. Thank you for teaching me about this brand. Through conversations with many of you, I’ve clearly learned that Precious Moments is about the wonderful emotions all around us in life. Your spirituality is refreshing in a world of just things. I thank you for all your suggestions, all your support and prayers, and am counting on you to provide the same for John and all of the Precious Moments family. 2019 Production Mark: Water Drop
At the bottom of each Precious Moments figurine, a special marking can be found. These small, inspirational drawings are called production marks or year marks. A water drop is the symbol chosen to grace each porcelain figurine made throughout 2019. There is little doubt that water is the source of life. Biblically speaking, the water which Jesus offers is the source of eternal life. “But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:14

I wanted to show and share with you something very special to me. Some collectors write about their special figurines or experiences, but I want to share a few pictures of my Precious Moments quilts that my mom has made for me. As the weather has turned cooler, we like to embrace that cozy feeling through the company of friends and family, perhaps a toasty beverage, and maybe even wrapped in the warmth of a favorite quilt. Club member Dawn Schindler does just that with quilted masterpieces made with a mother’s love. She graciously shares her story! A Collector 's Story
My mom, Dora Albrecht, is going to be 91 this year and has macular degeneration. She has been creating these beautiful masterpieces for the last few years. She just finished making a multi-color quilt with 30 blocks! The blue one was the first one that she made with 49 blocks and the black one has 81 blocks. She is now on her last one that she is going to try to finish because her eyesight is not getting better. The time and energy it takes to create one of the masterpieces is lengthy and is created out of her love for
Precious Moments. She cuts the blocks, then stamps the patterns on each block, embroiders each block by hand, and then puts them all together for each quilt. The time she has put into each quilt just shows the love that cannot ever be taken away. These quilts can never be replaced. The love and time Mom has put into each one is priceless. Each quilt is different, and no money can buy the love and time that she has spent making these heirlooms for me. All of these will be valued and cherished treasures for the rest of my life. Local Clubs Giving Back… The “Houston Area PMers,” a Local Club Chapter out of Houston, TX, assembled 25 Easter baskets filled with small toys and goodies for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). CASA’s mission is to help the thousands of neglected or abused children inTexas get out of foster care and into permanent happy homes. These are children whose parents cannot care for them because of incarceration, drug addiction, or financial hardship. A small gift like an Easter basket can certainly brighten the day for a child in need.

Employees Celebrate Days of Sharing Last year, Precious Moments employees in Missouri and Illinois participated in “Days of Sharing” where they volunteered their time to a charity in their area. Carthage, MO employees volunteered at Feeding, Inc., a nonprofit organization devoted to feeding the hungry in the region. Part of Feeding Inc.’s outreach includes providing a hot meal each Wednesday afternoon, along with creating small boxes of food for people to take home. Precious Moments employees helped to serve the hot meal, carried boxes and trays for those who could not do so on their own, did some general clean-up, and packed grocery carts with take-home food. This organization’s goal is to end hunger and empower lives by providing healthy food and impactful programs to promote self-sufficiency. The clients who come to Loaves & Fishes are considered neighbors and friends: the single parent who just lost her job, low-income families with children, the unemployed and underemployed, disabled individuals, seniors, the chronically ill, at-risk teens, and the homeless. Because You Count… More Than You Could Ever Know Thank You, Pat Carson
In the world of Precious Moments, Pat Carson is one of the original VIPs. As the first licensee to sign a contract with Precious Moments, her company Designs by Gloria & Pat, Inc. has been creating Precious Moments cross-stitch patterns since 1979. Once they discovered Mr. Butcher’s adorable renderings, Pat and her business partner, Gloria Steele, wasted no time in personally presenting their cross-stitch ideas to him. Moved by the girls’ enthusiasm and passion for the craft and for his designs, Mr. Butcher was immediately won over; the partnership filling a need for crafters and Precious Moments fans alike. Sadly, Gloria passed away in 1984, but Pat kept the business not only surviving, but thriving. After a long, successful career in the business, Pat Carson announced that she was retiring last year. She has worked tirelessly
in a field she loves and has contributed so much to the popularity of Precious Moments through her products, appearances, and interactions with the Precious Moments community. Most importantly to her, she has been able to dedicate much of her life to philanthropic work, including women’s shelters, orphanages, and children’s relief efforts in the United States and in the Philippines.
There are hardly words to thank Pat for all that she has meant and continues to mean to our global Precious Moments family. To pay special tribute to Pat Carson and the achievements of Designs by Gloria & Pat, Inc. and to honor her 2018 retirement,
Deb Butcher created a special numbered edition porcelain figurine. Titled Because You Count , this piece features a young crafter showing off an embroidery hoop with the words

Surprises From the Doll Maker
While on a family vacation at Walt Disney World in August of 2013, Mark M. of Greenwich, Connecticut happened to wander into the Art of Disney store with his daughter Kristin who was pregnant with his first grandchild. There, sitting on the shelf, was THE perfect gift for his soon to be granddaughter Claire: a Precious Moments Mary Poppins doll. He knew this would be a wonderful tradition that a grandfather and granddaughter would share together. Through the years, Claire developed some serious medical issues that have taken her in and out of Boston Children’s Hospital, some that have even required surgery. One of the ways that Mark can always brighten one of Claire’s rough days is to give her a Precious Moments doll. Claire is now 5 years old, and when she sees the tall white box that says, “Share the Gift of Love, Precious Moments Doll Collection by The Doll Maker,” she knows something special is inside.
Claire now has a collection of more than 60 Disney Precious Moments dolls, all from her “Pepere.” In May 2018, Kristin wanted to do something very special for her dad since he had created so many wonderful memories for Claire. She called The Doll Maker’s office and arranged to send two unique accessories for two dolls to make them look like Claire and her younger brother Jack. Kristin wanted to surprise her dad with the two dolls during their family vacation to Walt Disney World in celebration of her father’s 60th birthday.
As luck would have it, Linda Rick, The Doll Maker, was there during the event, so Mark and Claire finally got to meet Linda in person and have her sign Claire’s dolls. Linda was in on the secret and made a special presentation to Mark of the dolls that looked like his two grandchildren. Claire’s favorite doll is Belle, so she had pink glasses just like Claire’s, and since Buzz Lightyear is Jack’s favorite Disney/Pixar character, she sent a football to go with Buzz since Jack loves football. When Mark opened the dolls that looked just like his grandchildren, he was speechless and kept looking at Linda, then to Kristin, then to Claire trying to figure out how this amazing surprise came about. Mark and his wife visit Walt Disney World several times a year and whenever they plan a trip, they check three things: 1.) To see where the Precious Moments dolls will be located, 2.) Will Linda be there, and 3.) To make sure and bring an extra suitcase to bring “something special” home for Claire!

Show Us Your Precious Moments Linda Bianchi
Linda Bianchi from Seattle, Washington has been collecting Precious Moments since 1984. It all began when a coworker showed her pictures of Precious Moments figurines his wife was collecting. “I was hooked!” Linda says.
When people come to her house, they notice all of them and can’t help but remark, “You have so many!” She has more than 700 of them, in fact. In describing her collection, Linda says, “I have Precious Moments in three cabinets, one is a Precious Moments cabinet. They are in my living room, dining room, kitchen, hallway, bathroom, and bedroom.” Her favorite figurine from the start of her collecting is the girl with the goose, Make A Joyful Noise . Her second favorite is her Seattle Seahawks figurine! In addition to figurines, she also collects dolls and has a cedar chest filled with Precious Moments stuffed animals. She looks forward to displaying a collection of Christmas ornaments on her holiday tree each year. “I even have Precious Moments checks for my bank account – I’m a true Precious Moments collector!” Linda explains with pride. “I cherish and love each one, I truly enjoy looking at them every day.” Linda also has made many Precious Moments gifts including pillows, baby blankets, and bibs, and for weddings she uses Precious Moments cards and wrapping paper. In Case You Missed It… Our 2018 Hawaiian Cruise was an epic adventure!
Aloha! Our cruise of the Hawaiian islands last November did not disappoint. More than 150 Precious Moments enthusiasts boarded Norwegian Cruise Lines “Pride of America” for a seven-day adventure they will never forget. The fun-filled itinerary included four Hawaiian ports of call in addition to embarkation from Honolulu, Oahu. Some of the favorite activities included horseback riding in Kauai, a sculpting demonstration with Master Sculptor Hiko Maeda, helicopter tours, snorkeling with turtles, and of course meeting and mingling with collectors from around the world. Each guest received special gifts including a cruise exclusive set, You Bring MeWaves Of Happiness .
On board the stunning cruise ship, attendees were treated to a sneak peek of upcoming Precious Moments product and ate the finest gourmet dishes. Some were more adventurous and enjoyed biking, surfing, touring rain forests, discovering volcanoes, and taking part in an authentic luau while ashore. Of course, everyone enjoyed plenty of time soaking up the Hawaiian sun! This trip was truly one of a lifetime and plans for the next Precious Moments trip are already underway. Some vacation destinations up for consideration include an Alaskan cruise with land package, Disney World or a Disney cruise, Aruba, Curaçao, and Destin, Florida.
