Parents of children, seniors, and other residents of The Nation voiced their wish list dreams for community recreation, during a May 31 public meeting at the community centre in Limoges. Some also expressed frustration at what they see as delays on the part of council, about whether or not to follow the example of neighbouring municipalities like Russell Township, and either erect a sports dome or build a sports and recreation complex. “I believe this town deserves a sports complex,” said Vicky Perry, a recent newco- mer to the area from Châteauguay, Québec. She noted that the Montréal suburb was able to develop its own sports complex, complete with an indoor pool, and operate it as a self-sufficient revenue-generating facility which did not depend on annual subsidies from the municipal budget. Des démarches seront alors effectuées pour connaître les coûts pour louer un espace d’environ 5000 pieds carrés, pour une durée de cinq ans. Le but de cet exercice est d’être en mesure de comparer les coûts qui seraient engendrés par l’achat de la propriété avec ceux engendrés par la location d’un espace. La priorité du conseil municipal est de TPSUJSMBTVDDVSTBMFE&NCSVOEFMFOESPJU où elle est située présentement, soit dans le pavillon La Croisée de l’École élémentaire catholique Saint-Jean. Le Carrousel de la GRC s’est arrêté au Russell Fairgrounds à Russell lors de sa tournée en Ontario, le 1er juin dernier. Le Carrousel de la GRC est exécuté par une troupe de 32 cavaliers et leurs montures. Leurs performances consistent en des figures complexes et des exercices chorégraphiés sur différentes musiques. Le Carrousel parcourt le pays et se produit dans jusqu’à 50 communautés à travers le Canada entre les mois de mai et d’octobre. This is because the provincial government does not provide funding for medical equipment purchases for Ontario hospitals. Elle est révolue l’époque où le futur papa devait attendre derrière la porte que l’accouchement soit terminé parce qu’il s’agissait « d’une affaire de femmes ». Aujourd’hui, de nombreux pères s’impliquent dans la grossesse de leur conjointe et choisissent d’assister à l’arrivée de bébé. Quel rôle peuvent-ils jouer? Suivi de grossesse, échographie, cours prénataux… Intéressez-vous au déroulement de la grossesse, documentez-vous et participez aux déci- sions importantes telles que choisir le lieu de l’accouchement et décider de connaître ou non le sexe du bébé. Votre rôle le plus important? Être pré- sent : le soutien du père durant la grossesse contribue à réduire le stress de la future maman. Lors de l’accouchement, le père peut s’impliquer de diverses manières. And this connection can only increase by spen- ding time with the baby after birth, as you change diapers, give the baby a bath and rock her to sleep. But apart from caring for them, there are many other ways you can spend quality time with your children. Many mothers exercise with their toddlers in order to get back in shape — why can’t
fathers do the same? You’re not really in- terested in going for a run with a jogging stroller or taking yoga classes together? You could exercise by using your baby as a weight. And when your children are old enough, you could enjoy some parent-child workshops, or take a karate or swimming class together. Of course, you don’t need to sign up for a class in order to spend quality time together. Take a bike ride, go for a picnic in the park or spend a day at the pool; small shared pleasures are valuable too. If the kids are
interested, you could also pass on your own particular passions by teaching them to play the guitar, cook, play sports, etc. Research shows that the father’s presence is just as important as the mother’s. For exam- ple, it’s often Dad who helps his children discover the outside world and encourages them to move beyond their comfort zone, thus promoting their independence and ini- tiative. In other words, children and their fathers have nothing to lose and everything to gain from spending time together.
Single fathers: a rarely mentioned reality
The image of the single parent is still usual- ly associated with that of the single mother who raises her children alone. Of course, it’s true that mothers are still usually given custody, especially of very young children. However, single fathers, although in the minority, are no longer an exception to the rule. In fact, in 2011, there were 1,527,845 single-parent families in Canada, of which 327,545 (21.4 per cent) were headed by men. According to current research, single fa-
ceptance of a mother’s need to miss work for a sick child, while a father’s decision to stay home is dimly viewed. In addition, most services for single-parent families are oriented towards mothers. Whether you’re a man or a woman, raising children alone is never easy. But despite all the obstacles, being a single father is an es- pecially rewarding experience that’s made up of the thousand and one little joys of fa- mily life.

Quelques 110 motocyclistes étaient réunis dimanche dernier à la paroisse Notre- Dame-des-Anges, à Moose Creek, afin que le père Cyriaque Balla bénisse leur moto et leur casque. Une messe a d’abord eu lieu, suivie de la bénédiction des casques et des motos. C’est un évènement qui se répète à chaque année depuis maintenant près de 25 ans. À chaque année, le chapitre ONF de l’Association de motocyclistes Gold Wing Road Rider Association (GWRRA) choisi une paroisse différente, située dans l’Est ontarien, pour tenir cette célébration eucharistique. Après la célébration, les motocyclistes étaient invités à défiler sur un parcours d’environ 90 kilomètres. Ce sont donc 75 motocyclistes qui ont participé à la randonnée, allant de Moose Creek à Saint-Albert, en passant par le parc Long Sault, près de Cornwall. Gérald Léger, principal organisateur de l’évènement, s’est dit très satisfait de cette édition 2018 de l’évènement. « On a eu de bons commentaires après coup.
