Il faut toujours porter attention lorsque l’on est derrière le volant. C’est ce que la province de l’Ontario espère promouvoir, suite au dévoilement d’une nouvelle loi législative portant sur la distraction au volant, qui est en vigueur depuis le 1 er janvier dernier. « On ne parle pas juste du cellulaire », a déclaré Cynthia Savard, sergente et coordon- natrice des services communautaires de la Police provinciale de l’Ontario. « On peut être distrait lorsque l’on mange quelque chose ou lorsque l’on change de station de radio. » La sergente souligne également qu’il existe trois types de distraction au volant, soit la distraction visuelle, tel le iPad, la dis- traction manuelle, tel la radio et le GPS ainsi que la distraction cognitive, qui consiste à ne pas porter attention lors de la conduite. Une première déclaration de culpabilité s’avèrera couteuse, soit de de 615 $ à 1000 $, en hausse par rapport au minimum précédent de 490 $. De plus, trois points d’inaptitude seront infligés ainsi qu’une suspension du permis de conduire de trois jours. Une deuxième déclaration coutera 2000 $, six points d’inaptitude et une sus- pension du permis de conduire de sept jours. Si par malheur l’incident devait se répé- ter une troisième fois, le conducteur ou la conductrice ferait face à une amende de 3000 $, six points d’inaptitude et une suspension du permis de conduire de 30 jours. OPP SEEKING UNKNOWN MAN WHO APPROACHED LOCAL CHILDREN
The local Ontario Provincial Police Department detachment is hoping to identify a man who recently ap- proached children, offering to drive them home. The Ombudsman office notified him that it is doing two separate investiga- tions of his complaint, one regarding 5IF/BUJPODPVODJMTVTFPGJODBNFSB meetings, and the other for dealing with issues related to the sports dome project process. Mayor François St-Amour declined comment on the subject when contacted Monday, January 7.
A resident of The Nation Municipality has filed complaints with the provincial Ombudsman and privacy commissioner’s offices about council’s handling of the proposed Limoges sports dome project, including an allegation that council vio- lated provincial regulations restricting its approval on financial matters during a municipal election year. David Mushing issued a press release to regional media this week alleging that mem- CFSTPG5IF/BUJPODPVODJMIBWFNJTIBOEMFE the proposed Limoges sports dome matter, including not being “transparent” with the general public and taxpayers about a pos- sible $250,000 out-of-court settlement to Saint Joseph Properties Ltd., the contractor hired for the project. “I have grave concerns about how this project has transpired,” Mushing stated. “The secretive nature of council throughout the entire process, conducting most of the procurement process behind closed session provisions of the Municipal At, in my opinion, represents a serious failure in transparency of government.” Mushing also alleges that members of the previous council violated the provincial government’s “lame duck” restrictions on financial approvals imposed on council dur- ing the period leading up to a civic election. The alleged violation concerns approval of $253,838.35 to the municipality’s solicitor, SKS Law LLP and the cheque invoice accord- ing to the accounts payable summary was marked as “10-19 SPORT D”. The approval was done in October prior to the municipal election date. Mushing noted that the 2018 municipal budget allocates $50,000 for legal ex- penses. Any other expenses would require council approval. But, Mushing noted, the $250,000 payment approved in October took place during the “lame duck” period when there is a $50,000 limit on any financial approvals the existing council can make. The restriction continues until the new council is TXPSOJOUIFGPMMPXJOH/PWFNCFS Mushing has made several requests to the mayor and council members and to the municipal office for explanations about the cheque approval which he believes was an out-of-court settlement to the contractor over the sports dome project. La quatrième délégation à se présenter devant le conseil de ville désire qu’un parc canin soit créé à Limoges. Des questions se posent quant aux problèmes causés par un parc canin. Ce à quoi il a été répondu que le parc lui-même ne cause aucun problème mais ce sont les propriétaires qui ne suivent pas les règles. Une consultation publique devrait avoir lieu à ce sujet. Local municipalities seeking financial aid from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for community projects may have less chance of success. Voilà maintenant 15 ans que les gens de Casselman profitent des activités de la Guignolée. En décembre, une centaine de bénévoles se sont une fois de plus donné rendez-vous pour la cueillette de denrées non périssables et de dons pour les paniers de Noël. Ce sont plus de 5000 articles qui ont été recueillis, et près de 70 paniers ont été remis à des familles dans le besoin. C’est à l’église, juste avant Noël, qu’elles sont venues chercher leur panier. On voit ici les bénévoles qui ont fait un travail remarquable. —photo fournie

Une charte pour protéger les gens atteints d’une maladie neurodégénérative
If you or a loved one are among the more than half a million Canadians living with dementia, it’s possible you’ve experienced or witnessed some form of discrimination or stigma as a result. Because it’s sometimes difficult for people with dementia to stand up for their rights, the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada has released the Canadian Charter of Rights for People with Dementia. Created by the society’s advisory group, the Charter of Rights was written by and for people living with dementia. It ensures that those afflicted can become aware of their rights and empowers them to advocate for themselves. It also enables caregivers who support people with dementia to become familiar with these rights.

En janvier, à l’occasion du Mois de la sensibilisation à la maladie d’Alzheimer, la Fédération québécoise des Sociétés Alzheimer est fière de promouvoir la nouvelle Charte canadienne des droits des personnes atteintes de maladies neurodégénératives. Élaborée par le groupe consultatif de la Société Alzheimer, cette charte lancée en septembre dernier est la toute première au Canada qui vise spécifiquement à renforcer la capacité à faire respecter les droits des personnes et des familles touchées par une maladie neurodégénérative. Ainsi, tous les Canadiens doivent désormais s’efforcer de protéger et de respecter les droits des malades, notamment :
• Ne pas subir de stigmatisation ou de discrimination; • Exercer tous leurs droits civiques et juridiques; • Participer à l’élaboration et à la mise en œuvre de toute politique affectant leur vie; • Avoir accès à des mesures de soutien leur permettant de vivre de manière aussi indépendante que possible et de rester actifs dans la collectivité; • Obtenir l’information et le soutien dont ils ont besoin pour participer aussi pleinement que possible aux décisions qui les affecteront, y compris celles concernant les soins; • Recevoir des soins par des professionnels formés adéquatement dans le domaine des maladies neurodégénératives; • Être traités avec respect et dignité par des professionnels qui sont tenus de protéger leurs droits fondamentaux; • Avoir accès à des procédures efficaces de plainte et d’appel lorsque ces droits ne sont pas respectés.

Mais c’était mal connaître les Vikings qui ont inscrit leur qua- trième but. Les joueurs des deux équipes ont été indisciplinés au cours de cette période, l’arbitre attribuant trois punitions à chacune des deux équipes.
