JENNIFER HAIRDRESSING - LEVEL 3 DIPLOMA

Preston College was Jennifer’s first choice, allowing her to build on her success by progressing from Level 2 qualifications in hairdressing and barbering to the Level 3 Hairdressing Diploma. This has enabled her to further develop her technical expertise, build confidence, and work towards her career ambitions. Balancing her studies while running two businesses and raising three children, Jennifer has shown exceptional dedication and resilience. She has pushed herself further by entering competitions and skills events, securing third place at the AHT Blackpool competition, reaching the national finals, and being shortlisted as a finalist in the Rising Star category at the 2025 Preston College Student Awards. Jennifer plans to open her own salon specialising in curly and textured hair, with the long-term goal of launching a training academy.

“This course has helped me turn my passion into a clear career path.”

AARON CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION (CertEd) - LEVEL 5 Aaron returned to Preston College after completing an apprenticeship earlier in his career, attracted by its strong reputation and supportive learning environment. During his course, he has developed key skills in lesson planning, curriculum design, and academic writing, which he now applies to running his two alternative provision centres in Blackpool and Preston. His studies have strengthened both his professional practice and confidence as a leader. Aaron values the opportunity to network with like-minded professionals and learn from their experiences, while approachable tutors and accessible facilities have ensured support is always available. Looking ahead, he plans to continue his studies, expand his centres nationally, and inspire his three daughters by showing how education can change lives.

“I’ve learned so much and built a foundation to make a real impact in my community.”

FUNDING & FINANCE

We’re committed to making adult education accessible and affordable. Depending on your circumstances, residency status, and course choice, you may be eligible for partial or full funding. As Lancashire moves to a devolved system under the Lancashire Combined Council Authority (LCCA), funding arrangements for 2026/27 are not yet confirmed and therefore are subject to change. Until confirmation is received, the information provided below should be regarded as indicative only. Funding is usually only available to eligible individuals who live in residence within a Lancashire postcode. Please call 01772 225522 to confirm your eligibility. Our commitment, however, remains the same – to help you maximise your entitlements, with our advisors guiding you through your options once final funding guidance has been published.

EMPLOYED You may be able to get your course fully funded if you’re working (employed or self- employed), studying up to Level 2, and earning under £25,750 a year. This is based on your own (gross) salary. For certain Level 3 courses, you could also receive full funding if you earn less than £29,431 a year. If you’re aged 19 to 23 and don’t yet have a full Level 3 qualification, you might still get funding for certain courses, even if you earn above this amount. If funding isn’t available, you may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan instead. LEGAL ENTITLEMENTS Individuals aged 19+ may be fully funded for English and maths courses from Entry Level up to Level 2, if you have not already achieved a GCSE (or equivalent) at grade 4 or functional skills at Level 2. Individuals aged 19+ may be fully funded for digital skills courses from Entry Level up to Level 1, subject to your assessment being below Level 1. Individuals aged 19-23 who have not previously achieved a full Level 2 or full Level 3 may be fully funded, regardless of the earnings threshold or employment status, if the course has an eligible legal entitlement status. EMPLOYER SPONSORSHIP If your employer is sponsoring your course, please provide their details and we will arrange to invoice them directly. This payment option will be discussed and confirmed with you before enrolment to ensure everything is in place prior to starting your course.

NOT CURRENTLY EMPLOYED If you are currently unemployed and receiving an eligible state benefit, you may be able to receive full funding for tuition fees on courses up to Level 3. Eligible benefits include Universal Credit, Jobseekers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance, with other benefits considered depending on your individual circumstances. Full funding may also be available if you are under formal redundancy consultation. If you are not claiming benefits but are actively seeking work, related to your course, you may still be eligible for funding.

LIFELONG LEARNING ENTITLEMENT (LLE)

If you are looking to study certain Level 4 to Level 6 courses or modules that commence from January 2027, you may be eligible to apply for Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE) funding. Under the LLE, eligible students will be able to access a funding entitlement of up to £39,160, based on the maximum tuition fee for the 2026–2027 academic year. You will be able to view and manage your loan balance through your personal Student Finance account, with the Student Loans Company. ADVANCED LEARNER LOAN Where funding is not available for some Level 3 courses, and where you are eligible, you could apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your tuition fees. Loan eligibility does not depend on your income, nor are there any credit checks, and you will not have to pay anything back until you are earning over £25,000. For loans taken for the academic year 2026/27, please refer to Student Finance England for repayment guidance.

CONSTRUCTION

FIND OUT MORE

Construction is a priority sector across Lancashire, with consistent demand for skilled tradespeople in housebuilding, infrastructure, and green skills. Employers need work ready individuals who can contribute from day one, and our adult provision is designed with that outcome in mind. At Preston College, our construction courses offer clear, practical pathways. If you are looking to enter the industry, you will develop the core skills, behaviours, and standards expected on site, with progression routes into apprenticeships and sustained employment. Our close employer links ensure what you learn reflects current practice and real job opportunities. For those already in work and looking to upskill, our programmes support progression

within your trade, building competence and confidence to take on more responsibility or move into new areas. We also recognise that not every student is career driven. Many join us to develop practical skills for home projects or personal interest. Our courses provide a structured, hands-on environment to learn safely, build capability, and achieve high quality outcomes. Delivery is flexible and built around adult life. Evening sessions, supported by independent guided study, allow you to balance learning with work and family commitments while maintaining momentum and progress. Wherever you start, the focus is simple: develop the right skills, apply them confidently, and move forward with purpose.

COUNSELLING

STEPHEN COUNSELLING (FAST TRACK) LEVEL 3 CERTIFICATE Following recovery from a chronic illness, Stephen gained a new perspective on life and the link between mental and physical health. Experiencing counselling during his recovery inspired him to pursue a more meaningful career focused on supporting others. Returning to education as an adult felt like a significant step, but Stephen quickly built confidence in a welcoming and supportive environment, that helped him quickly feel at ease. Through the course, he is developing core counselling skills alongside advanced communication and listening techniques, benefiting both his studies and everyday life. Stephen is now working towards qualifying as a counsellor and psychotherapist through future study.

“My only regret is that I didn’t do this sooner – my time here has been life-changing, helping me grow in confidence and find a new direction.”

JENNIFER FOUNDATION DEGREE PERSON CENTRED COUNSELLING & PSYCHOTHERAPY Jennifer chose this course to progress her career and build on her experience of receiving person centred therapy, with the aim of supporting others. Currently self-employed as a coach and working remotely due to disability, she wanted to further develop her skills and expand the impact of her work. On the course, Jennifer has strengthened her critical thinking and communication skills, while gaining a deeper understanding of herself and her personal outlook. Supportive and approachable tutors have played a key role in her learning experience, particularly through access to one-to-one tutorials that provide valuable guidance on both clinical practice and academic work. Jennifer plans to continue her studies and progress to a research Master’s degree.

“The openness and friendlessness of the team has supported my growth in a way that truly meets my needs.”
