When September arrives, we transition into a beautiful new season with two favorite annual events. First, on Saturday, September 19th, we will gather for the annual Mayors’ Chess Challenge . This open-play event is fantastic because it brings players (and those who want to learn) of all ages and skill levels together across the chessboard, a celebration of the power of chess in our community. Just one week later, on Saturday, September 26th, we keep the momentum going with our Fall Harvest Festival . It is always a wonderful autumn celebration filled with local vendors, music, and seasonal activities that our residents look forward to every year. Of course, keeping our City beautiful requires dedicated effort behind the scenes year-round. I want to shine a well-deserved spotlight on our exceptional Clean Team, who work diligently every day to keep our streets, public spaces, and parks inviting and well-maintained, especially during storm season. I invite you to watch our new online video series showcasing how this Team, and countless others, work hard every day to protect and beautify our City. On behalf of the City Commission and our dedicated staff, I wish you a safe and memorable summer, and I hope to see you at one of the incredible events our City is fortunate to host.
Welcome to the Summer! This is a perfect time to embrace how special it is to live in a city that works to keep a small town feeling. Our daily lives can get incredibly busy, but these months offer us a natural invitation to slow down, enjoy the outdoors, and spend meaningful time with the people who matter most. From morning gatherings at our exceptional local parks to evening strolls through our vibrant neighborhoods, the spirit of togetherness is alive and well across Sunrise. We are kicking off this quarter with a truly historic milestone that you absolutely will not want to miss. We are incredibly excited to welcome everyone to our annual July 4th Celebration , which holds an extra special place in our hearts this year as we join together to honor America’s 250th birthday. To mark this monumental occasion, we have designed a spectacular day packed with patriotism and family fun. The excitement starts at 9:00 am with our traditional parade marching down Sunset Strip, leading straight into a festive Family Fun Day at City Park, featuring children’s rides, music, and amazing local food vendors. Later that evening, the celebration shifts to the Amerant Bank Arena for an energized live concert, a breathtaking drone show, and our legendary fireworks display. Admission and parking are free, so bring the whole family to share in this unforgettable celebration of freedom. As we head into August, our focus turns toward supporting the bright future of our city’s youth. Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 1st, for our annual Back-to-School Splash . This wonderful community tradition is all about helping our local students prepare for the upcoming school year with confidence. Families

Town Hall Connects Residents to Critical Resources This year, I hosted a Housing Town Hall focused on addressing the economic hardships many families are facing. The event connected residents with valuable resources, including housing assistance, childcare support, financial assistance programs, employment services, veteran resources, and other community-based support programs. Thank you to the organizations and partners who participated and helped provide support to our community. Recognized as a 2026 Home Rule Hero I was honored to be recognized by the Florida League of Cities as a 2026 Home Rule Hero. This award of distinction is given to elected officials who actively advocate for local decision-making authority and cities to govern based on the needs of their residents. As the 2nd Vice President of the National League of Cities Women in Municipal Government, I proudly represented the City of Sunrise advocating for funding opportunities, appropriations, and resources that directly benefit our residents. Standing Together to Keep Bair Open I was proud to stand alongside the Bair Middle School PTO, School Board Member Dr. Jeff Holness, the Broward Teachers Union, Assistant Deputy Mayor Latoya Clarke, community leaders, parents, and my colleagues in support of the effort to “Keep Bair Open.” Strong public schools are vital to the success of our students and neighborhoods. I remain committed to educational opportunities that best serve our families and ensuring every child has access to a quality education close to home. Wishing all students a successful and rewarding school year ahead. Supporting Autism Hero Project’s Blue Envelope Program I am proud to share the City of Sunrise Police Department has partnered with the Autism Hero Project’s Blue Envelope Program. This initiative helps law enforcement recognize drivers with autism and other communication challenges

Expanded Emergency Care Coming to Sunrise I am excited to welcome the new Broward Health and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Freestanding Emergency Department to our city. This state-of-the-art facility provides 24/7 emergency care for both adults and children, bringing lifesaving services closer to home for Sunrise residents. Serving a community of more than 100,000 residents, this investment represents a major step forward in strengthening healthcare access and ensuring families receive the care they need when every minute counts. Celebrating Caribbean American Heritage I am deeply honored to have been recognized as a 2026 honoree at the 12th Annual Unique Caribbean American Heritage Awards. As a proud Puerto Rican, this recognition holds special meaning to me. Our Caribbean culture is rich in history, resilience, and contributions that have helped shape communities throughout our nation. I am grateful for the opportunity to represent the Caribbean community across our city and celebrate the diversity that makes Sunrise such a vibrant place to live, work, and raise a family. An Army Mom’s Pride This June marked a major milestone for our family as my son, Jose, graduated from Piper High School and, just a few weeks later, began his journey serving in the United States Army. As a mother, watching my firstborn take this next step fills me with immense pride. I am honored to now be an Army mom and pray daily for Jose’s safety, as well as for all the brave men and women serving our nation and the families who support them. We thank all who
serve and sacrifice to protect our freedoms.

I am proud to report on my first term as your Assistant Deputy Mayor, during which I have actively represented the vibrant community of Sunrise. Since my election, I have strengthened my commitment to collaboration and transparent communication, ensuring that resident input directly informs the policies and progress shaping our city. In partnership with the Mayor and commissioners, I have worked to maintain a balanced municipal budget while advancing essential services that deliver measurable benefits to our residents. We have prioritized investments in transportation, infrastructure, improved neighborhood drainage systems, and expanded Wi-Fi access in public spaces. Our focused efforts in public safety and strategic commercial development have driven sustainable economic growth, attracted new businesses, created jobs, and reinforced the safety and strength of our neighborhoods. Our dedication to improving quality of life in Sunrise is evident throughout the community. We have strengthened our support for citywide schools and successfully completed several key recreational initiatives. Notably, we opened the staff-designed, cost-efficient Hiatus Road Trailhead Park and installed new canopy shading in select parks to improve accessibility and comfort. We also launched Signature Sunrise, a premier event rental venue that provides residents with an elegant and affordable space for community gatherings and celebrations. Entertainment in our city has reached new heights. The Sunrise Amphitheater reopened as a revitalized hub for live performances, while the Tunes ’N Trucks concert series achieved record attendance, demonstrating strong community engagement. Our “We Are One” celebrations continue to grow, highlighted by the successful 2nd Annual Caribbean American Heritage Festival, which
showcased and honored the Caribbean Impact within the city. We introduced the City’s first drone shows, adding innovative programming to our events calendar, with another performance scheduled for July 4th at Amerant Bank Arena. Additionally, our Light Up the Holidays celebration reached record participation, creating memorable experiences for families throughout Sunrise. Looking ahead to 2027, as Sunrise approaches its 65th anniversary, we remain focused on thoughtful growth and honoring our roots, particularly in the eastern part of our city. Several major commercial projects are set to begin, including Sunset Strip Square, which will deliver 29 affordable homes; Solterra, a 900-unit residential development; and The Ray, featuring 415 multifamily units, including 138 affordable residences. Additional city improvements such as the NW 60th Avenue enhancements, Library Square build-out, and the Celebrate Sunrise Entryway Artwork will further enrich our community. These initiatives will strengthen and balance established destinations like Village Art Plaza, City Hall, and Roarke Hall. Community connection remains central to my work. We have expanded opportunities for residents to engage together through monthly Farmers Markets, Soca Fitness and yoga classes, and Run Club events. I extend my sincere appreciation to the Mayor, my fellow Commissioners, the City Manager, our Chiefs, and our dedicated City staff for their leadership and collaboration. Together, we have delivered meaningful progress for Sunrise. As we look to the future, let us embrace the new
opportunities ahead with respect, unity, optimism, and shared commitment to excellence.

Celebrating Sunrise, Community, and America 250 As Sunrise joins communities across the nation in celebrating the 250th birthday of the United States, this milestone offers a meaningful opportunity to reflect on civic pride, shared values, and the future we are building together. I remain deeply grateful for the trust and confidence the residents of Sunrise placed in me as one of your elected City Commissioners. Since taking office, I have remained guided by three core principles: following a clear vision for our city, serving with integrity, and delivering results. Those principles continue to shape my work each day as I collaborate with residents, neighborhoods, business leaders, City staff, stakeholders, and my fellow Commissioners to make Sunrise an even better place to live, work, learn, play, shop, and dine. Planning for Today While Investing in Tomorrow As families continue to navigate the pressures of the economy, inflation, property taxes, and rising service costs, I want residents to know that responsible stewardship of public funds remains one of my highest priorities. As a fiduciary of taxpayer dollars, I am committed to supporting a structurally balanced budget, maintaining the high-quality programs and services our community depends on, and continuing to invest in the infrastructure improvements that will strengthen Sunrise for years to come. A Summer of Celebration and Community America’s 250th birthday celebration also brings exciting opportunities for the community to come together. I hope to see many of you at the City’s Fourth of July parade, as well as at the concert and fireworks spectacular at Amerant Bank Arena. These events are a wonderful reminder of the spirit, energy, and togetherness that define Sunrise. Summer is also the perfect time to enjoy the many amenities our City has to offer. At the heart of original Sunrise, Village Art Plaza continues to grow as a vibrant gathering place where art, culture, and community come together. From live
music and local finds to public art and dining, it is a destination that reflects the creativity and character of our City. Residents can also experience the City’s Art Gallery, featuring traveling exhibits and the work of talented local artists, or enjoy affordable, family-friendly entertainment at the Civic Center Theatre, where theatrical productions, musical performances, and children’s programming help bring the arts to life. Something for Everyone in Sunrise For those who enjoy recreation and fitness, Sunrise offers something for every age and interest. Residents can spend time at the Tennis Club, play a round at The Bridges at Springtree Golf Club, or cool off at the Sunrise Civic Center Aquatic Complex, Welleby Pool, Village Beach Club, Roarke Pool, or one of the splash pads in our beautiful parks. The Athletic Club at the Sunrise Civic Center, along with the multipurpose centers at the Sunrise Athletic Complex and Village, provide additional opportunities for basketball, pickleball, fitness classes, and other recreational programs. Many of these amenities are available at no cost to Sunrise residents, helping promote health, wellness, and connection throughout the community. Our senior residents also enjoy a wide range of opportunities through the Sunrise Senior Center, which offers classes, trips, support groups, dances, games, arts and crafts, and wellness programming designed to foster both enrichment and community. A City That Rises Above the Rest Sunrise truly offers something for everyone, and I look forward to seeing residents and families enjoying all that our city has to offer this summer. Together, we continue to build a community defined by opportunity,

Reflecting on my 47 years as a Sunrise resident, I admire our community’s growth. Back when my family arrived from Brooklyn, I was a 12-year-old kid discovering a quiet town of 25,000. As the youngest of seven, I spent childhood playing baseball and riding dirt bikes across open trails— fields that would one day become Sawgrass Mills Mall and Amerant Bank Arena. Sunrise gave me a foundation at Bair Middle School and St. Thomas Aquinas High, and here, I met the love of my life, Allison. Speaking of family, this year marks a deeply personal and joyful milestone for us. I am incredibly proud to share that our two beautiful daughters, Alyse and Kaitlyn, have graduated from high school. Watching them grow up in the same community that shaped my own life has been an absolute blessing. As they step into this exciting next chapter, Allison and I are filled with immense gratitude and pride for the bright, dedicated young women they have become. I am also thrilled to welcome the new Broward Health and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital freestanding emergency department to our city. This state-of-the-art facility now provides 24/7 emergency care for both adults and children, making lifesaving services more accessible for Sunrise residents. This investment is a significant advancement in our community’s healthcare access. We look forward to even more progress as another state-of-the-art Baptist Health facility is under development, further expanding quality care options close to home. My passion for this city has always driven my work, both as a local business owner since 1985, founding Michael Anthony’s Designs and later Scuotto’s Pizza in 1997, and as your City Commissioner. Over the years, I have had
the privilege of collaborating with outstanding colleagues and staff to continuously elevate our residents’ quality of life. From the early days of the Sunrise Musical Theatre to the Stanley Cup celebrations at the arena, the expansion of our corporate office park, and the introduction of new housing developments currently under construction, we have carefully guided Sunrise’s growth while preserving its heart. Today, that progress is visible in our 250 acres of amazing parks and world-class amenities. I am deeply grateful to our city employees who maintain everything from our sports fields and splash pads to popular areas like The Bridges at Springtree Golf Club, the Village Art Plaza, and Veterans Park. Looking ahead, we continue to champion projects that enhance neighborhood pride through our Neighborhood Participation Program, and I am exceptionally proud of the ongoing work of our AIM (Accessibility, Inclusion, and Mobility) Board, which ensures support and access for residents of all abilities. True public service is about giving back. Through the Scuotto/Marziliano Family Foundation, our annual Kaitlyn’s Gift toy drive, and providing over 50 college scholarships to Piper High School students, our family remains fully committed to uplifting those around us. Whether supporting the Special Olympics, the Dan Marino Foundation, the Sunrise Italian American Civic Association, the Anthony Rizzo Foundation, or local veterans, serving our community is at the core of everything I do.
Sunrise is my home, and I am proud to serve it.

PEDALS VS. POWER: Enjoy the Ride and Keep Our Shared Paths Safe
As electric bicycles and e-mobility devices continue to grow in popularity across Florida, riders and motorists alike should understand the laws, safety expectations, and important differences between legal e-bikes and higher- powered electric motorcycles (“e-motos”) . Recent legislation and increasing crash data have prompted state and local agencies to place greater focus on rider safety, education, and responsible operation. Florida law recognizes three classes of electric bicycles. • Class 1 e-bikes provide pedal assist only and can reach speeds up to 20 mph. • Class 2 e-bikes may use a throttle and also have a maximum assisted speed of 20 mph. • Class 3 e-bikes are pedal-assist bicycles capable of speeds up to 28 mph and require additional safety considerations, including helmet use for riders. One of the most important distinctions is whether the device has operable pedals designed for human propulsion. Many vehicles commonly seen on roadways and sidewalks resemble bicycles but function more like motorcycles. Devices with motorcycle-style frames, foot pegs instead of pedals, rapid throttle acceleration, or speeds exceeding legal e-bike classifications may be considered motor vehicles rather than bicycles under Florida law.

New Florida regulations taking effect July 1, 2026 , require e-bike operators on shared-use pathways to provide an audible signal before passing pedestrians and prohibit speeds greater than 10 mph when pedestrians are within 50 feet on sidewalks or pedestrian-designated areas. Violations may result in a non-criminal traffic citation. Parents are also encouraged to understand the capabilities of devices purchased for juveniles. Some high-powered electric bikes can accelerate rapidly and travel at speeds comparable to mopeds or motorcycles. Riders should use devices only in areas where they are legally permitted and appropriate for their experience level. Whether commuting, exercising, or simply enjoying the outdoors, responsible riding helps keep everyone safe. By understanding the law, respecting shared spaces, and operating these devices responsibly, our community can continue to enjoy the benefits of e-bikes while reducing crashes, injuries, and unsafe riding behavior.

1. REGISTER ONLINE AT SUNRISEFL.GOV/ REGISTRATION OR USE ONE FORM TO REGISTER: Please print in ink or type. Make sure you fill out the registration form and waiver completely. Incomplete forms will be returned, and could delay your registration process. You may make additional photocopies of the form to submit if necessary. 2. LIST THE APPROPRIATE ACTIVITY NUMBER ON YOUR REGISTRATION FORM. Refer to the activity listing for the properactivity number. 3. DO NOT SEND CASH! Make checks or money orders payable to theCity of Sunrise or complete credit card information on your registration form. Payment in full is required with each registration. (There isa $20 or 5% charge - whichever is greater - for all checks not honoredfor any reason by the bank). Payment by check or money order will only be accepted if received three (3) weeks prior to the activity. 4. PROOF OF RESIDENCY/AGE IS REQUIRED. Each time you register for a sport or activity, you must provide proof of residency as specified in the table on the left in order to qualify for the discounted Sunriseresident rate.
