LIGHTING

DESIGNED AROUND THE INSTALLER, THE LIGHTING PRODUCT RANGE WAS CREATED TO ADDRESS THE EVERYDAY CHALLENGES ELECTRICIANS FACE ON SITE… X-Series by Saxby

With increasing pressure to deliver projects quickly, safely and efficiently, installers are looking beyond product performance alone. Ease of installation, faster testing and simplified maintenance have become just as important, prompting manufacturers to rethink how products are designed from the ground up. This installer-first approach has driven the development of Saxby’s new X-Series - a family of lighting products created to address the everyday challenges electricians face on site. Rather than following existing market trends or focusing solely on price, the range was developed using practical feedback from electricians; these were at the forefront of innovation considerations. The first products to launch in the X-Series are the EvoX bulkhead, LinX20 IP20 batten and LinX65 anti-corrosive batten. Although each is designed for different environments, they all share a set

of common modules, from microwave and photocell sensors to emergency kits. For wholesalers, this means fewer individual product variants to stock, reducing shelf space while offering customers greater flexibility. Installers also benefit from a consistent user experience regardless of product type. Fittings deliver up to 150 lm/w and incorporate selectable wattages and three switchable colour temperatures, allowing one fitting to suit multiple project requirements. A universal 3-in-1 sensor provides microwave detection, step-dim and dusk-to-dawn functionality, while simple click-in emergency modules simplify installation and maintenance. Push-fit terminals featuring GS38 probe points have also been incorporated into the fittings to make R1 + R2 and IR testing safer and more straightforward. The LinX20 IP20 batten and LinX65 anti-corrosive batten are both available in 4ft, 5ft and 6ft sizes. Both feature push-fit loop-in/loop-out connectors, multiple cable-fixing positions and

full Besa box compatibility for greater versatility. The LinX20 features conduit entry points and a hinged gear tray with removable hinges, allowing the diffuser to be completely detached during installation for unrestricted access, while single-colour options provide a practical solution for specified projects. The LinX65 builds on these installer-friendly features with lockable spring clips and bracket mounting options, making it equally suited to demanding commercial and industrial environments. The EvoX bulkhead has been designed with the same focus on installation efficiency and long-term flexibility. Suitable for wall or ceiling mounting, it can be installed with or without its bezel, allowing it to double as a practical utility fitting where required. Besa box compatibility, conduit entry points and locking clips all contribute to a faster installation process. Installers can also choose from plain or eyelid bezels to suit the application, while genuine plug-and- play sensor and emergency modules can be added without replacing the fitting or

carrying out extensive rewiring. As labour efficiency becomes an

increasingly important consideration across the electrical industry, products that actively reduce installation time can deliver real value on site. By combining modular design with practical installer-led innovation, the X-Series demonstrates how thoughtful engineering can deliver efficiencies throughout the supply chain - from distribution to installation. REGULATIONS

THE COMMISSION FOR REGULATION OF UTILITIES IN IRELAND HAS PUBLISHED A REVISED ELECTRICAL SAFETY SUPERVISORY CRITERIA DOCUMENT (VERSION 4)… Safe Electric welcomes Criteria Document update

What are the key changes?

Safe Electric has welcomed publication of a revised Electrical Safety Supervisory Criteria Document – The Regulation of Electrical Installers with Respect to Safety (Version 4) by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU). The revised Criteria Document, which replaces Version 3, was published with an information note and took effect on July 24, 2026. It has been updated to reflect developments in legislation, regulatory arrangements and technical standards, including IS 10101, as well as changes in the operational practices of the Safe Electric Scheme. Why has the Criteria Document been updated? The Criteria Document sets out the detailed rules and obligations that apply to CRU, the Electrical Safety Supervisory Body and members of the Safe Electric Scheme. Since the publication of Version 3 in 2016, a number of legislative, regulatory, technical and operational developments have taken place. Version 4 has therefore been introduced to ensure the regulatory framework remains current, clear and aligned with contemporary industry practices. Although a significant number of amendments have been made, CRU has confirmed that these are considered minor because they do not alter the overall structure or intent of the Criteria Document.

Version 4 includes updates across a number of areas: Definitions and terminology: Updated definitions and references to reflect current legislation, qualifications,

standards bodies and industry terminology. Governance and data protection: Changes reflecting current legal, contractual and data

protection arrangements between the CRU and the Electrical Safety Supervisory Body. Registration and competency: Clarification of qualification and competency requirements, including Qualified Certifier Verification and Certification training every five years and the recognition of international professional qualifications. Inspections, audits and enforcement: Updated inspection notification requirements and clearer disciplinary, suspension and enforcement procedures. Certification: Greater clarity around Controlled Works and the removal of outdated certification arrangements. Processes and structure: Updated flowcharts, removal of duplicated or outdated content and improvements to procedural consistency. Future modifications: A strengthened and formalised Modification Committee process for proposing, reviewing and approving future changes to the Criteria Document.

What does this mean for Registered Electrical Contractors? The revised Criteria Document provides greater clarity regarding the operation of the Safe Electric Scheme and the regulatory requirements that apply to Registered Electrical Contractors. The update modernises the document and aligns it with current legislation, standards and operational practices. It also strengthens consistency, transparency and accountability across the regulatory framework. Registered Electrical Contractors and Qualified Certifiers are encouraged to familiarise themselves with Version 4 and review the sections relevant to their roles and responsibilities. POWER PROTECTION

AS MODERN BUILDINGS ACROSS IRELAND BECOME INCREASINGLY AUTOMATED, METARTEC’S UPS PROTECTION HELPS KEEP HEATING, HOT WATER, HVAC AND BUILDING MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS ONLINE, VISIBLE AND UNDER CONTROL DURING POWER DISTURBANCES… Power protection for smarter, safer building controls

Rather than treating power backup as an afterthought, contractors and facilities teams can specify it as part of the wider control strategy. Preventing overheating If a gas or solid-fuel boiler loses power during operation, circulation pumps may stop immediately. This can prevent heat from being removed from the system, potentially causing water temperatures to rise rapidly. In severe cases, this may lead to overheating, damage to heat exchangers or stress on connected pipework.

As modern buildings across Ireland become increasingly automated, Metartec’s UPS protection helps keep heating, hot water, HVAC and building management systems online, visible and under control during power disturbances. Modern buildings rely on intelligent control systems to manage heating, hot water, HVAC and building management functions. From controllers and sensors to BMS platforms and network infrastructure, these systems depend on continuous, high-quality power to operate effectively. While boilers, pumps and plant equipment often receive the most attention, it is the control infrastructure that provides the intelligence behind efficient building operation. Even a brief power interruption can cause system resets, communication failures and loss of visibility across critical services. Heating systems may provide the output, but control systems provide the resilience. Heating systems: where UPS protection makes a difference In heating applications, UPS protection helps keep key controls online during brief interruptions.

Protecting sensitive electronics

Today’s boiler controls and BMS platforms contain sophisticated electronic components that can be vulnerable to voltage spikes, electrical noise and sudden voltage sags. Damage to these systems may result in costly repairs, extended downtime and disruption to building services. For facilities teams, the impact is not limited to the direct replacement cost of damaged equipment. A failed controller or BMS interface can reduce operational visibility,

POWER PROTECTION

“A UPS does not simply maintain power - it maintains control, communication and visibility across the entire building.”

delay fault diagnosis and make it harder to maintain comfort conditions across occupied areas. UPS protection helps reduce this risk by smoothing power disturbances before they reach sensitive electronic components. Avoiding system lockouts Even a momentary power disruption can force modern heating systems into fault conditions or lockouts. Recovery may require manual intervention, resetting equipment and carrying out diagnostic checks, increasing maintenance demands and reducing system availability. Repeated lockouts can also create avoidable service callouts, particularly where buildings are unattended overnight, over weekends or during holiday periods. By keeping the control system energised through short interruptions, a UPS can help prevent nuisance faults and support faster recovery when the mains supply returns. Specifying the right UPS solution For critical building control applications, line-interactive and online double- conversion UPS systems are commonly preferred, offering enhanced power conditioning and seamless transfer to battery operation during power disturbances. Pure sine wave output: This is

particularly important where circulation pumps, electronic transformers and other inductive loads are present. Modified sine wave UPS systems can cause motors and pumps to buzz, overheat or operate inefficiently. Pure sine wave output helps ensure stable operation and compatibility with sensitive equipment. Correct capacity sizing: UPS capacity should be calculated based on the total power demand of connected controllers, communications equipment and any associated low-power loads that must remain energised during an interruption. UPS topology: For critical building control applications, line-interactive and online double-conversion UPS systems are commonly preferred. These designs provide enhanced power conditioning and seamless transfer to battery operation during power disturbances, helping ensure uninterrupted operation of sensitive electronic equipment. The most effective specification starts with the role of the equipment being protected: whether it maintains local control, supports communication, preserves alarms or enables remote visibility. Matching protection to the application Different buildings require different levels of resilience. Smaller control panels, programmable timers and

local controllers may be well suited to compact protection systems such as Metartec’s Micro-Versi UPS, where continuity is essential, but space is limited. Facilities, meanwhile, may require more robust backup solutions such as Metartec’s Centi M UPS to support central BMS servers, communications infrastructure and estate-wide automation. This application-led approach also helps avoid a one-size-fits-all specification. For example, a small local controller may only require short-duration backup to prevent resets, while a central BMS or communications cabinet may need longer runtime to preserve monitoring, alarms and remote access. Matching the UPS to the actual role of the equipment helps balance resilience, budget and available installation space. A UPS does not simply maintain power — it maintains control, communication and visibility across the entire building.

HOW INVERTER SMART ADAPTIVE, ROINTE NEXA AND A SIMPLIFIED PRODUCT RANGE MAKE SPECIFICATION, INSTALLATION, MAINTENANCE AND CONTROL EASIER FROM FIRST FIX TO HANDOVER… Smart heating, built around the installer

For an installer, better heating technology should not mean a more complicated job. It should mean fewer products to handle, faster installation, easier commissioning and a system that is straightforward for the customer to use once the handover is complete. That is the thinking behind Rointe’s latest generation of connected electric heating. At the centre of the range is Inverter Smart Adaptive Technology. Instead of operating like a traditional PID controller, repeatedly switching at full power as temperature moves around the setpoint, Rointe’s system continuously adjusts output to match the real heating demand. Independent testing shows 12% lower energy consumption than an equivalent PID-controlled radiator under the same test conditions. For installers, however, the benefit goes beyond the energy figure. Inverter control has also allowed Rointe to simplify the core radiator offer around three principal outputs: 600W, 1,200W and 1,800W. That means fewer standard sizes to understand, transport and keep available, while the radiator itself modulates output once installed. Short-format models are also available for projects where wall space requires a different form factor. A more consistent platform also helps installers become familiar with the product faster, simplifying repeat jobs, troubleshooting and routine support across multiple different installations. The result is a more flexible approach to specification without returning to

to 30%, providing another tool when working with constrained electrical capacity. For the customer, Nexa provides a simple way to adjust programmes, activate Boost, Holiday or Night modes and monitor consumption, costs and savings. For the installer, that means less time explaining complicated controls and a clearer route for future adjustments that would otherwise risk becoming a return visit. More than radiators The same installer-focused approach extends across Rointe’s electric heating portfolio. Connected towel rails bring bathroom heating into Nexa, while the Genius WiFi thermostat provides app control for Milos and Erko electric underfloor heating systems. For properties using off-peak tariffs, ONYX adds a high heat retention option with WiFi Direct control, Smart Charging and pre-installed peak and off-peak cables. It retains more than 55.3% of stored heat after 16 hours and uses an algorithm to calculate how much energy should be stored for the following day. Its Inverter Smart Adaptive fan then modulates heat delivery according to demand. Beyond heating, Rointe’s 2026/27 portfolio also covers cooling and climate control, including the RX20 wall-mounted split system and portable air-conditioning solutions. These sit alongside the heating ecosystem to give installers access to

a broader range of products from one manufacturer, although cooling products use their own control platform rather than Rointe Nexa. A simpler job from specification to handover The real value of smart technology is not the number of functions on a specification sheet. It is whether those functions make the installation easier to sell, fit, configure and support. Rointe’s approach combines adaptive power control, a rationalised radiator platform, direct connectivity and app-based management with technical support for professionals. The company also supports installers during maintenance and provides after- sales technical assistance through its professional channel. For installers, that creates a practical proposition: fewer standard radiator sizes to move and manage, familiar installation methods, no gateway requirement for connected heating, simple app-based configuration and a product ecosystem that can cover more of the project. Smarter heating should make the installer’s job simpler. With Inverter Smart Adaptive and Rointe Nexa, that is exactly the direction Rointe is taking.

One app, one connected heating ecosystem

Hardware is only part of the story. Rointe Nexa brings the connected heating range together in one control environment, allowing radiators, connected towel rails, storage heaters and underfloor heating to be managed from a smartphone. Products connect directly through WiFi Direct, removing the need for additional gateways or smart boxes. Bluetooth pairing supports setup, while Nexa allows products to be organised individually or by room, floor or zone. Installers can configure schedules, activate functions and set operating parameters before handover, giving the customer a system that is already organised around the way the property is used. That becomes particularly useful in rental properties, student accommodation, hotels and other managed environments. Limited Mode can restrict access to selected functions and temperature ranges, while surface temperature limitation can be set on compatible radiators where safer touch temperatures are required. Power limitation on Inverter Smart Adaptive models can also reduce total installed radiator power by up

ONE HAND DRYER, DESIGNED BY ATC TO MEET THE DEMANDS OF

HOSPITALITY, EDUCATION, HEALTHCARE AND OFFICE ENVIRONMENTS… ATC’s Tiger ECO Hand Dryer

Education: Built for noise-sensitive spaces Schools, colleges and universities have their own demands: heavy daily use, tight budgets for maintenance and a real need to keep noise down in shared spaces. Tiger ECO’s low noise output, as low as 70dB(A) at one metre, means it can be installed without disrupting nearby classrooms or corridors. Commercial-grade design ensures Tiger ECO keeps performing, no matter how hectic the school day gets. Hospitality: First impressions matter In hospitality, a trip to the washroom is part of the experience. Guests notice finish, cleanliness and how a space feels, right down to the hand dryer. Tiger ECO’s sleek finish in white, matt black and brushed stainless steel fits comfortably in any space, from a boutique hotel to a busy restaurant. It holds up to heavy daily use without losing that premium feel. And with a 15-second drying time, Tiger ECO ensures a pleasant experience, even at peak periods.

Not every washroom has the same job to do. A hospital corridor, a school block, a stylish hotel lobby and an open-plan office all ask something different of the space. When specifying a hand dryer, it’s your job to match the noise levels to the environment, drying speed to footfall, style to the aesthetic, hygiene standards to the function, durability to the level of use - and all within a reasonable budget! That’s where Tiger ECO comes in. One hand dryer designed by ATC to meet the demands of hospitality, education, healthcare and office environments, without asking any of them to compromise. Healthcare: Hygiene as a non-negotiable In healthcare settings, hygiene isn’t a ‘nice to have’. It’s the standard everything else is judged against. Tiger ECO offers a touch-free, hygienic alternative to paper towels, cutting out the bin overflow, damp floors and cross-contamination risk that come with them, with optional HEPA filtration. The white finish is a natural fit here too, making it easy for cleaning staff to spot dirt or marks at a glance, while the LED Countdown Indicator guides users on exactly how long to dry their hands for.

ECO’s contemporary styling fits modern office design without drawing attention to itself, while its energy-efficient operation with variable outputs as low as 600W and eco modes, keeps running costs sensible in the background. It’s a small addition that supports a wider shift many workplaces are already making, towards more sustainable buildings. Different space, different demands. Whatever the job, Tiger ECO handles the rush and looks good doing it. Tiger ECO • 15s fast drying time • Premium finish: white, matt black, brushed stainless steel • Noise levels from 70dB(A) @ 1m

• Optional HEPA filtration • LED countdown indicator • Energy-efficient • UKCA & CE certified

“Tiger ECO offers a touch-free, hygienic alternative to paper towels, cutting out the bin overflow, damp floors and cross-contamination risk.”

Offices: Efficient, understated, reliable

Offices don’t need a statement piece; they need something that works quietly and efficiently. Tiger
