PRESIDENTS’S MESSAGE

This space is usually dedicated to a preview of things that lie on the Club’s horizon. This month will be more of a short retrospective. In this our 125 year as Wilmington Country Club, we took full advantage of the opportunity to celebrate together. We commissioned a history book that collects stories, facts and figures that have set this club apart from all others in our region. th

The author visited us, told us more about ourselves and signed our books. If you haven’t picked it up yet, I encourage you to read it and enjoy the illustrations. You will not regret it. Many thought that the highlight of the year would be the blowout party we threw in May. And it was a fabulous time. A great turnout of the membership enjoyed great food, great drinks, a great band, a great drone show and a great time to be together. Many of you insisted that we need to replicate it every year. It’s a good idea, but let’s not forget that our Fourth of July celebration is always pretty wonderful too. We also seized the opportunity to dedicate the Heritage Garden with remarks about our past, present and future. That space is just stunning and was conceived, designed and built by our very own staff. Plans are in the books for holding weddings, dinners and other events and I encourage you to consider it for your big events. Christine is loaded with great ideas. As fabulous as the 125 party was, it might have been topped by the 125 Anniversary Dinner Dance in September. A big crowd dressed to the nines, another fun band and outstanding food and service made it a night to remember. So much so that there have been many calls to run the same play on New Years Eve, much like the Club used to do for many years. It’s a great idea. th th

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

For me, one of the best moments at the Dinner Dance was the rousing applause given in recognition of our incomparable staff. From Phil to the newest member of the kitchen staff, the employees of Wilmington Country Club consistently deliver an experience for us that is very difficult to find anywhere else. Those members who have traveled extensively or belonged to a variety of clubs know very well how fortunate we are to enjoy this level of service day in and day out. I loved that we were able to show a few short moments of appreciation for those who work so hard to make our club experience so easy. All this is to say that I am beyond grateful for the year we have enjoyed on this our anniversary. The formal commemorative events are behind us and, yes, the irrigation project proceeds at a rapid pace, we know about all the other projects that lie ahead and our future is extremely bright. And our Club will long endure as one of the finest in the nation. It was great to devote 2026 to counting all the blessings that WCC showers on us.

GENERAL MANAGER’S MESSAGE

Autumnal Greetings!

Every year activity starts to slow during this month, but I’ve never understood why. Fall is a great time to use your club . . . Perhaps the best. The heat and humidity of July is now a distant memory. The golf course playing conditions are usually “fast and firm”. Tennis and Pickleball enthusiasts get to enjoy the final days playing outdoors; Squash and Paddle seasons are starting.

When you check the various sections of this Bulletin, you will see that there are a full complement of Men’s, Ladies and family activities in store. So don’t put those clubs, racquets, or paddles away yet - the season is far from over!

I also have a variety of topics to share with you this month. Each applies to someone – read on to see if it is you:

There are several golf events in October. The Women’s Solheim Cup, the Men’s Clover Hill Cup, Mixed Glow-Ball, as well as the wrap-up events for the 18-hole and 9-hole ladies leagues are all scheduled in the first half of the month. Consider joining in the fun! With October comes Oktoberfest food and drink specials. The week of the 6th through the 11th, the nightly specials will be German themed. Special beer and wines will be available to enjoy as well. The celebration will spread to Pub37 for Happy Hour on Friday the 9th. As we are transitioning from outdoors to indoors, don’t forget that Dr. Jim Sullivan is at the Living Room piano every Friday and Saturday evening to make the Dining Room experience special. Towards the end of the month, on Thursday the 29th we are conducting a member favorite “Tacos and Tequila” night. Join us for a delicious taco buffet and a guided tasting flight of three styles of Libelula Tequila. Reservations please! The irrigation project is going great, and work is now impacting play requiring a hole being taken out of play to complete installation of fairway, green and tee pipes and sprinklers. Daily irrigation announcements are being pushed through the WCC App. If you aren’t signed up, click “HERE” to get started. The silver lining of the Irrigation project will be our inability to conduct aerification this fall. This means that you will continue to enjoy great playing conditions through the end of the year and to start the 2027 golf season. Outdoor dining on the patio will close on Sunday, October 25th. Although the weather has reduced the opportunity to dine outside, when it has cooperated, your support of the area has been wonderful. We’ll have the heaters out all month to take advantage of every possible evening. Enjoy it until then! The Golf course snack bars also close for the season at the end of the month. Their final day of operation will be Sunday, the 25th as well.

3

The month’s schedule also includes two wonderful family- oriented events. On Sunday the 4th, we hold our annual Fall Festival & Tractor Crawl. Followed by the very popular Kids Halloween Carnival Party scheduled for Friday, October 16th. This “costume-optional” event will be held in racquets and will include great food as well as lots of age-appropriate activities. Rules Focus for the Month: Cell Phones; Hats in the Clubhouse; Repair Ball Marks. No elaboration necessary. Please pay special attention to our driveway and parking lots. It is important that all traffic follow the proper “flow” and only park in designated parking places. This includes vehicles that carry an ADA permit. Mostly, just SLOW DOWN! Now is the time to book Holiday parties. Depending on the size of your group we still have several excellent dates available. Give us a call. Speaking of Holidays, although Thanksgiving falls late in November this year, it will be here before you know it. We hope you will plan on spending yours with us. In recent years, attendance has reached capacity, so it is advisable to make your reservations early – particularly if you’ll be hosting a “gathering”. October is the last chance for apples. Typically, by the end of the month the orchard is “picked out”. This year’s crop has been bountiful and flavorful. One of the highlights of this year has been the many opportunities to celebrate your club’s 125th Anniversary. In addition to the memorable parties, events and the club’s history book, the Heritage Pathway to membership that provides a $12,500 stock credit has increased the interest of many potential candidates. This Anniversary program will remain in place through the end of this year, but the sun is beginning to set. Sometime in October, senior members will receive their proxy to complete and return in preparation for the annual election of the Board. The Annual Election of the Stockholders will be held Thursday, November 19th at 5:30pm. October also marks the time when many members begin the annual migration to warmer climes for the winter. We hope you have had a great season. From our perspective we thought it was a good one! For those leaving, please travel safely, stay healthy and we look forward to your return. For those who remain . . . I’ll see you at the Club! -Phil Iannelli

As we enter the fall season and approach the final months of WCC’s 125th Anniversary year, now is the perfect time to introduce friends, family members, colleagues, and prospective candidates to Wilmington Country Club. Through the Heritage Pathway Program, eligible new members receive a $12,500 credit toward the purchase of Stock. As part of our 125th Anniversary celebration, this special opportunity is available through the end of 2026. With only a few months remaining in the year, we encourage you to think about the people in your life who might be a great fit for WCC. Fall offers so many opportunities to showcase the Club, from enjoying a meal or attending a social event to playing a round of golf, visiting the racquets facilities, or simply introducing someone to the WCC community and traditions that make our Club so special. Know someone who has been considering membership? Now is a great time to make the introduction. Share your experience, invite them to experience the Club with you, and let them discover what makes WCC such a special place to belong. If you have questions about the Heritage Pathway Program, the membership process, or how to introduce a prospective candidate to the Club, please feel free to reach out to me at any time at mspero@wilmingtoncc.com. There are only a few months remaining in 2026 to take advantage of the Heritage Pathway opportunity, now is the time to share WCC with someone special.

MEN’S ANNUAL MEMBER-MEMBER RECAP

The Men's Putting Championship took place Friday, September 25, at the Main Putting Green, with 29 participants competing for the Men's Putting title. The championship was decided in a thrilling final match between Jack Clough and Steve Casey. In the end, Mr. Casey had the hottest putter and holed multiple lengthy putts to take home his fourth putting championship. Mr. Casey previously won the Men’s Putting Championship in 2019, 2022 and 2024. The Annual Member-Member was shorted to 18 holes after the first round of play due to inclement weather conditions. 74 participants braved the outskirts of the nor'easter affecting the east coast. Our overall champions, winning the Net Division, were the team of Brad Mitchell and Randall Robbins, who fired a seven-under par round of 64. Sitting just two shots off of the lead were the team of Pete Moran and Jay Tschantz, who shot five-under par, 66. We had a three-way tie for third place at four-under par, 67 between the teams of Tripp Way and Trevor Way, Todd Anderson and Michael Ashley, and Randy Mitchell and Nick Russo. In sixth place, we had the team of Andrew Kelly and Kevin Sweet, who posted a round of three-under par, 68. Tying for seventh place were the following two teams with a score of two-under par, 69: George Kimbiris and Dan Leung, and David Stephens, Jr. and David Stephens, III.

In the Gross Division with a score of two-over par, 73, the team of Matthew Cleary and Ryan Cleary took home the Low Gross honors.

MESSAGE FROM GROUNDS

As we settle into fall, here is what's happening on the grounds this month, along with an important schedule change.

South Course Aerification Delayed Until November!

We have made the decision to postpone this year's fall aerification until after the South Course closes for the season in late November. Aerifying fairways while trenching and pipe installation, along with system testing are underway would compromise both projects and risk poor recovery. We would prefer to see aerification of the greens and tees completed while there is still time for growth before winter. Waiting until closing carries some tradeoffs, and it is likely we will have some holes and healing of the playing surfaces when the course opens in April, 2027, this slight delay means you will enjoy uninterrupted play on smooth putting surfaces throughout the fall, which is often the best golf of the year in our region. While not punching holes in fairways on the North Course will be punted until next season, we will go forward with aerification of the greens and tees as scheduled. Therefore, the North Course will be closed beginning Monday, October 12 through Thursday the 15 . This will allow these playing surfaces to heal-in and be playable for winter golf. th th

Irrigation Project Update Leibold continues to move at a rapid pace, and towards the end of September, brought in a second crew to begin lateral piping and sprinkler install. The original team will continue with mainline work, while the newly arrived contractors will close out holes 13 through 18 North, then concentrate on the South Course. As we begin to cross golf holes with smaller diameter pipe, we can expect a hole closure of approximately two and a half days. We will continue to use the ForeTees app with a push notification to announce where work is occurring each day. Other Fall Course Notes Divot repair: Please continue filling divots on tees and fairways with the turf pelt as regular rain events will help with recovery. If it is not possible to use the turf, please fill the void with the sand mix provided. Fall is the best time for turf recovery, and your help makes a real difference. Frost delays: Cooler mornings mean frost delays will start to appear. Play will begin after the frost has lifted to protect the turf. We will announce updates utilizing the push notification service from ForeTees. Fine fescue meadows: We have mowed these areas and we will follow-up with some herbicide applications to aid in clean-up and presentation of these areas for the 2027 season. We will also renovate the hillside to the right of 15 South tees and re-seed this slope with fine fescue. Looking Ahead While we are focused on daily presentation of the Club as a whole, we continue to prepare for the 2027 season. We will take advantage where we can to begin some remediation to the bunkers on both golf courses that will include edging, adding sand, and new grassing. As weather dictates the closure of the Har Tru clay courts, we will begin to prep these by removing tape lines and “dead material,” which consists of larger, weathered particles that have lost their fine binding dust and can no longer bond back into the court surface.

Thanks for reading and we look forward to seeing you out on the courts and courses!
