Although Clarence-Rockland Ward Six Councillor Krysta Simard will not seek a second mandate, her husband, Christian Simard, will be stepping up to the plate. Krysta Simard named her health and her family as the primary reasons that led her to her decision to not present herself again as a candidate in the upcoming October municipal elections. “I was finding myself exhausted working full time hours, being a part- time councillor, mana- ging the household and everyone’s schedules, as well as my volunteer work,” she explained. “I was sick this past year, more than I’ve ever been.” Simard suffered from the shingles, had to see a specialist for vocal issues and had problems with her thyroid gland. “My body was trying to tell me to slow down and I wasn’t listening,” she said. “I’ve learned that I’m no good to my family or my community if I don’t take care of myself.” This is where her husband, Christian, comes into the picture. He has decided to take some of the heat off his wife by presenting himself as a candidate for ward six in the next elections. “Seeing my wife do this job, and the toll it took on her health, I felt the need to step up,” he explained. “I’ve been with her every step of the way these past four years and I’m

She is also heavily involved in the community, working with the Club JOI in Saint-Pascal-Baylon and the Optimist Club, as well as directing a children’s choir. In reflecting on her time as a councillor, Krysta is thankful for the people she met along the way, but is also acutely aware of the challenges of the political world. “I had wanted to make a difference and I feel that I was able to do that in my ward,” she said. “Of course there is still a lot I would have liked to accomplish, there are a lot of rules and regulations to follow and the red tape can be frustrating, but that’s where my husband can come in and continue what I started to do.”

Enbridge Gas Distribution, the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council and the Alfred and Plantagenet Fire Department are partnering up to im- prove home safety. The goal is to bring fire and carbon monoxide-related deaths down to zero. This partnership is happening through Project Zero – a public education campaign that is providing more than 6,600 alarms to residents in 30 Ontario municipalities. The Alfred and Plantagenet Fire Department received 120 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms through the campaign and &OCSJEHFJOWFTUFE JO1SPKFDU;FSP this year. Since 2009, 34,384 alarms have been provided to Ontario fire departments as part PG1SPKFDU;FSP8IFOQSPQFSMZJOTUBMMFEBOE maintained, combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms help provide the early war- ning that is needed to safely escape from a house fire or carbon monoxide exposure. eaux de Wendover auront lieu le vendredi 13 juillet, de 9 h à midi. Le maire d’Alfred- Plantagenet, Fernand Dicaire, ainsi que certains conseillers seront présents pour une cérémonie à 9 h 30. Le Festival se poursuivra le dimanche 15 juillet avec une messe western le matin, sui- vie des spectacles des Cousins Branchaud, Julie Daraiche, Pamela Rooney et Rheal Leblanc, de 13 h à 16 h. Le Festival de la Bine de Plantagenet, qui aura lieu du 14 au 16 septembre prochain, a lancé sa programmation officielle. La prévente des billets est disponible jusqu’au 14 juillet. Le festival accueillera le Championnat canadien d’hommes forts et de femmes fortes professionnels, avec la présence de Jean-Francois Caron, l’homme le plus fort au Canada et sixième plus fort au monde. Les compétitions seront même télévisées sur RDS. Ce sera la première fois que le festival tiendra le Championnat canadien des femmes fortes, qui aura lieu le samedi, suivi du Championnat de l’Est ontarien de tir au poignet.
The Wendover Western Festival is officially in full swing! Organized by the Wendover Optimist Club, the 34 th edition of the festival started this week and will be running until the end of the weekend. The festival started with activities at the beginning of the week, followed by most artist performances happening this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, day and evening. The Festival will then conclude on Sunday, July 15, with a church service in the morning, followed by the final performances, from 1 to 4 p.m., by Les Cousins Branchaud, Julie Daraiche, Pamela Rooney and Rheal Leblanc. — archives
Le Festival Western Optimiste de Wendover est déjà commencé et bat son plein ! Work location: Daycare Services of Clarence-Rockland Requirements: • Holds a High School Diploma; • 1 year experience with children with special needs; • Holds a valid Standard First Aid & CPR Level C/AED certificate; • Good communication skills to be able to work with children, staff and parents; • Must be bilingual (French-English, oral and written); • Must have the physical strength to lift the child; • Must be available to work before and after school and on school breaks; • A criminal record check ‘Vulnerable Sector’ must be provided upon hiring only (must be dated less than three months prior to the requested date) and is a condition of employment; • Early Childhood Diploma or Child and youth care worker or Personal support worker is an asset. Duties: • Supervise and assist the clients in the daily activities (indoor and outdoor); • Perform duties for the clients (feeding, lifting, positioning, toileting and diapering, administering medication, etc.); • Operate equipment for the clients’ therapy. secondaires; • 1 an d’expérience avec les enfants à besoins particuliers; • Détient un certificat de Secourisme général et RCR niveau C/DEA à jour; • Possède une habileté en communication pour pouvoir travailler avec les enfants, les parents et les membres de l’équipe; • Doit être bilingue (français et anglais, parlé et écrit); • Doit avoir une force physique pour soulever l’enfant; • Doit être disponible avant et après l’école ainsi que les congés scolaires; • Une vérification du casier judiciaire ‘Secteur Vulnérable’ doit être fournie à l’embauche seulement (elle doit dater de moins de trois mois avant la date où elle est requise) et est une condition d'emploi; • Un diplôme en Éducation à la Petite Enfance ou TES ou Préposée au service de soutien personnel est un atout. Fonctions : • Supervise et assiste les clients dans les différentes activités journalières (intérieures et extérieures); • Donner des soins aux clients (nourrir, lever, repositionner, soins de toilette et changement de couche, administrer des médicaments, etc.); • Utilise l’équipement pour la thérapie des clients.
