They ended up calling paramedics to take the driver of a vehicle to the hospital, to deal with a personal medical crisis. Un incendie survenu dans un domicile de Rockland fait maintenant l’objet d’une enquête policière. Les pompiers et la police ont répondu à un appel en fin de matinée, le 22 novembre, concernant un incendie dans une résidence sur la route de comté 17 à Rockland. L’incen- die a été éteint et il n’y a pas eu de blessés ni de morts, car personne n’était à l’intérieur de l’immeuble à ce moment-là. Un dossier de la Police provinciale de l’Ontario indiquait que la police et le Bureau du commissaire des incendies de l’Ontario mènent actuellement une enquête sur cette situation. Aucune cause de l’incendie n’a été donnée pour l’instant.

de près de 10 000 logements supplémen- taires d’ici 2035. Un grand pourcentage de ce chiffre comprendra des logements abordables, et une grande partie de ces logements sociaux seront nécessaires dans des régions à l’extérieur de Hawkesbury.

Je suis très heureux de dire que votre communauté semble très impliquée dans ce dossier important. » M. Turnbull a présenté au conseil des CUPR un rapport de 88 pages, présentant les résultats et les recommandations d’un examen, à mi-parcours, du plan décennal de prévention des problèmes de logement social et d’itinérance dans Prescott-Russell. Il a noté que la majeure partie de l’aug- mentation de la population de Prescott- Russell s’est produite dans la partie ouest de la région, autour de la Cité de Clarence- Rockland, de la municipalité de Russell et EF-B/BUJPO$FQFOEBOU EBOTMBQBSUJF est, soit les régions de Hawkesbury et de )BXLFTCVSZ&TU JMZBFVVOFEJNJOVUJPO des populations. restored their functions. For now he gets to spend time with a physiotherapist twice a week, doing exer- cises to strengthen his legs and keep his muscles in working order. He will also see his oncologist for standard post-treatment monitoring of his condition. But he knows that after each visit to the hospital, he gets to go home to Rockland and get back to being a normal kid again. “Getting back into sports,” he said, about what he’s looking forward to, most of all, now that he no longer has brain cancer. “Soccer and hockey and going on school trips. And golf. I was just starting to play golf.” Hockey is a big passion for Gavin, who cheers for the Leafs, though he used to be a Sens fan. He began his own hockey adven- tures first on the Eastern Ontario Cobras, and later on the Rockland Crush. He’s good on either the forward or the D line, but he admits that he prefers playing defence. “I like stopping the other players when they get too close to the net,” he said. Thank you Rockland Kevin Shaw has just two words to say to everyone in Rockland who have followed and supported his son’s battle with cancer. Thank you. “The community has been fantastic all through this,” he said. “There are just no words to describe how the community has held us up when we were hurting and helped us walk this journey.”
September and October, followed in the new year with the start of chemotherapy, up until /PWFNCFSUIJTZFBS XIFO(BWJOXFOUUP CHEO for his last session of chemo. Camp Ooch One highlight for Gavin, during his expe- rience in dealing with cancer, was the time he spent at Camp Ooch during the summer. Camp Ooch is a summer program for children dealing with cancer or other ailments. During his time at camp, Gavin shared a cabin with other children, where they all slept in bunk beds, went swimming, fishing, water skiing, enjoyed archery, wood shop, and camping out in the woods. “We made pizza and pancakes over a camp fire,” Gavin recalled. “It was good.” Gavin’s oncologist and some of the CHEO nursing staff volunteer their time at Camp Ooch. Kevin Shaw noted their delight at the positive results of the Camp Ooch experience on Gavin. “They were so delighted to see how he became the life of the camp,” Kevin Shaw added. “They all said that was the moment when they saw a new Gavin.” Home to stay Gavin still has some trips to make to CHEO, but not for chemotherapy. He wears braces right now, because one side effect of his chemo is a condition called “drop foot syndrome”, which affects how he walks and stands. It’s a temporary condition and will disappear once the nerves in his legs have
No more chemotherapy. No more opera- tions. No more cancer in his brain. Gavin Shaw gets to be a kid again. The 11-year-old Rockland boy rang the bell at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) last month to mark the end of his trips to Ottawa for chemotherapy treatment. Family, friends, nurses and doctors all chee- red as Gavin celebrated his freedom from cancer, and also reminded other children getting treatment at the hospital that there is hope for them to ring the bell some day. “Happy my chemo is done,” murmured a tired little boy, during a Saturday afternoon invitation at his home in Rockland. Gavin was curled up on the living room couch, alternating between texting to friends on his DFMMQIPOFBOEXBUDIJOHNPWJFTPO/FUáJY For more than a year now, starting when he was 10, Gavin has been dealing with a diagnosis of brain cancer and undergoing treatment for his condition. “An intensive treatment,” said his father, Kevin Shaw, who smiles when he looks over at his son. “He’s my hero, and I’ve learned a lot about perseverance from this kid.” The first skirmish in Gavin’s battle with brain cancer began in September 2018, not too long after confirmation of the diagnosis. He was scheduled for neurosurgery at CHEO, which meant, in the end, 21 hours of surgery
to remove the tumour, with care taken to avoid damaging his brain, while at the same time not allowing a trace of the tumour to remain behind. Pour Gabrielle Souçi, Jessie-Ann Ouimet et Layla Etts, 14 ans, toutes trois en 9e année à L’Escale, ce programme les aidera à améliorer leur jeu compétitif. Elles ont déjà plusieurs années d’expérience, et elles sont ravies de pouvoir travailler plus souvent sur la glace pour devenir meilleures. La directrice de l’école, Anne Simard, s’est dite très fière et heureuse que les élèves, filles et garçons, s’intéressent à cette nouveauté. Même son de cloche du côté de Jerrett DeFazio, responsable de Sécurité et services aux membres (Hockey Canada), qui a apporté son aide au conseil scolaire pour l’implantation du programme. Michel Gauthier est l’enseignant qui encadrera cette programmation au niveau de l’intermédiaire. Il a accepté de relever le défi d’entreprendre ce nouveau projet en collaboration avec Hockey Canada.
On attendait son lancement depuis quelque temps. Chose promise, chose due. Le programme de hockey de l’École secondaire catholique l’Escale, de Rockland, a été rendu public la semaine dernière. C’est à l’aréna de Clarence Creek que des représentants de l’école, du Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est de l’Ontario et de Hockey Canada ont fait l’annonce du nouveau programme sport-études, en présence des joueuses et joueurs déjà inscrits cette année. Ce programme est offert à tous les élèves de la 7e à la 12e année et mise, en tout premier lieu, non pas sur le niveau d’habileté de l’élève, mais plutôt sur le développement des habiletés. Mais pour l’année scolaire 2019-2020, ce sont les élèves de la 8e et de la 9e qui en profiteront en premier. L’objectif consiste à améliorer la

Les buts en première période ont été inscrits par Gabby Kioki pour Rockland, assisté de Joe Jordan, et William Venne pour Nepean, avec l’aide de Patrick Larking et Matthen Shanklin. Beau Binnie a marqué le but gagnant des Raiders en fin de deuxième période, avec l’aide de Tyson Tomasini et Colin Cromie.
