The year is 1846 in County Cork, Ireland and Thomas Gibbons Hawkes is being born into a prominent family with a glassworking heritage. He emigrated to the United States and after working for other glass companies, he opened his own cutting shop and was incorporated as T.G. Hawkes & Company in 1890. European taste for sparkling cut glass at this time was emulated in the United States in what was called the Brilliant Cut Glass Period. Over 1,000 cutting shops were founded to meet the demand and T.G. Hawkes & Company flourished and remained in operation for 82 years. Fast forward to modern day and the T.G. Hawkes trademark is now owned and brought back to life everyday by Hawkes Crystal. The mission of Hawkes Crystal is not to reproduce original Hawkes designs, but to translate these original patterns and shapes into a new modern collection. This new collection and generation of Hawkes Crystal is about reinventing and honoring this very important artisan tradition. Master Brilliant Cutter and Designer, Aidan J. Scully is the proud acquirer of the Hawkes trademark and chose Tiffin, Ohio as the home for the Hawkes Crystal workshop and gallery. Mr. Scully is one of only a handful of Master Brilliant Cutters currently creating in the United States. A native of County Cork, Ireland, Aidan is proud to have apprenticed under Edward Flavin, one of the first five apprentices of famed Waterford Crystal. With fanfare and swag to put a smile on any Ohio State fanatic's face, décor and ingredients with local flair, handmade and historical elements built into the building, and not to mention fantastic tasting drinks, The UrbanWoody Brewery & The HoneyBee Winery is not a place you want to take for granted. All are welcome with friendly smiles, open arms and a cold glass! While the name "The UrbanWoody Brewery" is a nod to Ohio State legends Urban Meyer and Woody Hayes, it is more about Ohio being home. Mike and Tiffani Aurand, along with Tiffani's son Aiden, are the proud founders and owners of The UrbanWoody Brewery and started the brewery venture by beginning work on their historical building in 2018 and officially opened their doors in May of 2019. After the brewery took off, Mike and Tiffani were ready to take on yet another challenge - wine! The HoneyBee Winery is housed under the same roof as the brewery and pays tribute to Mike and Tiffani’s wedding song, "Honey Bee" by country singer Blake Shelton. The HoneyBee Winery launched in April of 2022 and became the first winery in Seneca County! The UrbanWoody Brewery & The HoneyBee Winery are located in the heart of downtown Fostoria at 105 East Tiffin Street in what is called "The Foster Block" which is also owned by the Aurands. A huge part of the full experience is getting to sip your pint of beer or glass of wine in a historical building that has been transformed for modern day use. You will not go anywhere else in the United States and find something that can mimic the atmosphere that Mike, Tiffani and Aiden have cultivated. To experience all that The UrbanWoody Brewery & The HoneyBee Winery has to offer, walk through the door, pull up a stool, and enjoy the moment!
