Le député sortant de Glengarry- Prescott-Russell, le candidat libéral Francis Drouin, a finalement été réélu avec une majorité de 6000 voix. Les électeurs de la région ont été tenus en haleine pendant quelques heures lors de la soirée électorale d’hier. Le député fédéral sortant, le libéral Francis Drouin, ainsi que son adversaire conservateur, l’ancien député Pierre Lemieux, se sont échangé la première place à quelques reprises. Finalement, vers 23 h, le candidat libéral a définitivement devancé son adversaire. M. Drouin a obtenu plus de 26 000 votes, 6000 de plus que Pierre Lemieux. M. Drouin a fait une arrivée triomphale vers 22 h 30 au Restaurant Déjà Vu de Hawkesbury. Il a tenu à remercier ses par- tisans et ses bénévoles. « Mes amis, merci ! a lancé M. Drouin, devant une centaine de personnes. C’est grâce à votre travail assidu que nous avons réussi. » Bien qu’il se dise heureux d’avoir rem- porté les élections dans la région, le député a tenu à souligner qu’en tant qu’élu d’un gouvernement minoritaire libéral, il devra travailler avec les autres partis. « Je crois que collaborer avec les autres partis sera la clé de la réussite, a expliqué M. Drouin. J’ai déjà travaillé avec des conservateurs et des néodémocrates sur des projets de loi que j’appuyais. »

C’est ce que nous allons réaliser qui m’intéresse. » Selon lui, les longues heures passées à faire du porte-à-porte lui auraient permis de créer plusieurs liens forts avec la popula- tion locale. « Mon approche a toujours été
d’écouter les gens et leur donner une chance d’avoir une voix au Parlement, a expliqué le député. J’ai toujours misé sur cette approche dans Glengarry-Prescott-Russell. » Le candidat conservateur, Pierre Lemieux, a obtenu 22 849 votes. Le néodémocrate Konstantine Malakos a obtenu la faveur de 6619 électeurs. La candidate indépendante Marthe Lépine a obtenu la quatrième place, avec 2017 votes.

Native de Casselman, cette passionnée de nature et de voyages s’inspire de ce qu’elle voit pour créer ses tableaux. Tantôt dans l’abstrait (ou abstraction), tantôt dans le figuratif, les œuvres de l’artiste attirent l’attention des jeunes et des moins jeunes qui se retrouvent dans l’un ou l’autre des styles. Son médium est l’huile car elle aime la façon dont elle travaille avec. Dans l’abstraction, elle ne sait jamais où cela la mènera. Elle laisse donc libre cours à son esprit pour vagabonder vers les profondes sphères de la réalisation surprise, spontanée, imaginaire.
