Le député fédéral de Glengarry-Prescott- Russell, Pierre Lemieux, s’est joint à la Société de développement communau- taire de Prescott-Russell (SDCPR) pour annoncer des investissements majeurs pour l’entreprise IMI Manufacturing Inc. de L’Orignal, le lundi 29 juin dernier. C’est grâce au Programme de dévelop- pement de l’est de l’Ontario (PDEO) qu’un montant de 80 000 $ a pu être octroyé à l’entreprise, spécialisée en métaux ouvrés et en fabrication d’abris et de réservoirs sous-base. Le montant total des nouveaux inves- tissements dans l’usine s’élève à 460 000 $. Ces fonds serviront, entre autres, à l’achat de nouvel équipement et à des rénovations de l’espace actuel afin de créer une nou- velle entrée dans l’usine principale. Ceci aidera également l’entreprise à augmenter son chiffre d’affaires, tout en assurant sa prospérité dans le milieu manufacturier. Grâce à cette nouvelle expansion, IMI Manufacturing Inc., qui emploie actuelle- ment une quarantaine d’employés, créera huit nouveaux emplois. « Le PDEO a financé plusieurs projets

The United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) council thinks it may be a good idea. The counties council directed administra- tion to prepare a resolution of support for the EOWC proposal for council to approve at its next regular session. There was a brief discussion beforehand with a few mayors

questioning the necessity of hiring a regio- nal ombudsman when the provincial om- budsman’s office already exists, if citizens have complaints about the actions of local councils and politicians. «Why bother having an ombudsman at our level?,» saidMayor Pierre Leroux of Rus- sell Township, with Hawkesbury’s Mayor Jeanne Charlebois agreeing. Leroux noted that anyone who didn’t like a local ombudsman’s ruling could go to the provincial office to have it overturned. UCPR Chief Administrator Stéphane Parisien

told counties council that might be a pos- sibility but added that other municipalities, like Toronto, which have their own local ombudsman’s office, have found that in the majority of cases, the local ombudsman’s ruling is accepted. Champlain TownshipMayor Gary Barton expressed support for the EOWC’s regional ombudsman option. «I would prefer to have someone who understands the situation locally,» he said, regarding local complaints about how town and counties councils deal with matters.

Ce dernier veut redonner ses lettres de noblesse au canal et croit qu’il est temps que la commu- nauté mette son histoire en valeur. « Il faut améliorer, embellir et attirer les gens, a-t-il dit. Cette année, je me suis dit qu’il fallait qu’on fasse quelque chose. Quand j’ai vu la murale faite par Jessie au

garage de Saint-André-d’Argenteuil, je me suis qu’on pourrait en avoir une à nous. C’est unemurale qui parle d’histoire et qui va être visible de loin. » L’ouvrier militaire, la grande roue d’engre- nage, le paysage du canal et les bateaux à vapeur qui l’ont longtemps sillonné, l’œuvre parlera d’elle-même et sera un attrait tou- ristiquemélangeant fougue, histoire et désir de vaincre. Pour Laurent Chartrand, il s’agit d’un cri du cœur pour sauvegarder le canal et son histoire. « Il ne faut pas oublier ce que ces gens ont fait, a-t-il rajouté. C’était tout un travail de construire cela et on en apprend encore. »

Pour l’instant, la Maison du patrimoine a déboursé 2000 $ pour lancer le projet, mais du financement public pourrait aider à payer les 4000 $ restants. L’œuvre, qui devrait être terminée d’ici une semaine, si la tem- pérature le permet, est une étape dans la réfection et l’embellissement de la Maison du patrimoine, construite en 1820, et lieu où les ingénieurs du canal travaillaient à l’époque. Pour les intéressés, Jessie Armand travaillera sur la murale toute la journée de samedi et les citoyens sont invités à venir visiter et encourager l’artiste. LaMaison du patrimoine est située sur la rue du Canal Nord, au côté du stationnement du bar le Soumise.

Despite the rain, people came out to L’Orignal Park toenjoyabarbecue, inflatable structures, birthday cake, and celebrate Canada’s 148th birthday. Residents came out in limited numbers, on Wednesday, to celebrate Canada as well as the 50th anniversary of the Canadian Flag. The L’Orignal volunteer fire fighters put on a fantastic barbecue for all who attended the event. Teens and kids of all ages enjoyed the inflatable structures even though it was raining. Celebrations throughout the region and the nation kept people in party mode for the big day. Hawkesbury, St-Eugene, Alexandria, and many other municipalities in the region celebrated the day in a big way.

Rachel Villeneuve was helping out at the inflatable structure during the Canada Day celebrations in L’Orignal Park. Kids didn’t seem to mind the rain.

Second place winner for highest points was Joan King, with 32 points. King won first place for roses, second place for irises, and perennials, tied second for peonies with Mary Hatz and third place for photographs. King won the Norma Rose Bowl Trophy for the best Rosa rugosa and the Freda Armstrong Trophy. She also won four out of the five raffle prizes. “It’s unbelievable,” exclaimed King. Third place for highest points went to Louise Allard, with 29 points. Allard won first place for her irises, second place for decorative arrangements and third place was tied with Charles Freeman. “It’s a passion,” said Charles Freeman, member and volunteer. “Most people just want to go out and dig in the dirt. It’s fun.” Louise Freeman, chair of the event, said it was good to see so many people at the

The show saw 141 entries from 13 members with 110 floral entries and 31 photography entries. Dorli Wiki won the highest points, with 51 points. Wiki has been a member for many years. “I usually specialize in flower arrangements, but it is very time consuming and I just didn’t have time this year,” said Wiki. Wiki won first place for her perennials, annuals, houseplants, and photographs. She also won second place for roses, tied with President Mary Higginson. Wiki won the Margaret Zerter Trophy and the Silver Tray.

The Hawkesbury Royal Canadian Legion summer schedule The Legion has a few changes for the summer months. There will be no smoke meat suppers for the months of July and August, but they will be returning the last Friday each month in September. Darts and sandbags will also only be continuing in September. Under the Large Renewable Procurement

Pendleton Energy Centre Limited Partnership is proposing to submit a proposal to the Inde- pendent Electricity System Operator (IESO) to design, build, and operate the Pendleton Solar Energy Centre for the generation of electricity under the IESO’s Large Renewable Procure- ment (LRP). The LRP is a competitive process for procuring large renewable energy projects generally larger than 500 kilowatts. At the conclusion of the LRP, the IESO may award contracts for successful projects up to the specified procurement targets for each renewable fuel: 300 megawatts (MW) for wind, 140 MW for solar, 75 MW for waterpower, and 50 MW for bioenergy. This notice is being distributed to notify members of the public of a public community meeting that has been scheduled to discuss the LRP proposal. Information regarding EDF EN Canada Development Inc., the Pendleton Solar Energy Centre, and the meeting details are described below. This public community meeting is being held as part of the early community engagement requirements of the LRP. The public commu- nity meeting will present details about the Pendleton Solar Energy Centre and its pro- posed connection line. Representatives of EDF EN Canada Development Inc. will be available to discuss the Project and the overall LRP process. Should Pendleton Solar Energy Centre be awarded a contract, the Project would need to obtain all required permits and approvals and conduct any further required community engagement activities.
