TUPAC SHAKUR murder investigation continues as Las Vegas search house in relation to 1996 killing

ROOM THE press

After 27 years since the tragic drive-by shooting that claimed Tupac's life at the age of 25, Nevada authorities confirmed that they recently executed a search warrant related to the murder. According to a report by the Guardian, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department conducted the search in Henderson, a nearby city. However, specific details about the focus of the search and its exact location remain undisclosed. Aden OcampoGomez, a spokesperson for the Las Vegas Police Department, refrained from providing additional information due to the ongoing and sensitive nature of the investigation. The murder of Tupac Shakur, which occurred on September 7, 1996, has always been veiled in mystery. The shooting occurred when he was sitting beside Marion "Suge" Knight, the head of Death Row Records, inside a black vehicle that had stopped at a red light near the Las Vegas strip. Despite the passage of time, no arrests have

Samro announces distribution of R22m

If you’re an avid Springboks supporter, you probably watched the game against Australia at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday night. Saturday night proved otherwise, but it didn’t go off without its fare share of controversy. Shortly after the game, the Springboks social media team tweeted a picture of Nosipho Silinda who was entrusted to lead South Africa in song. A former “Idols SA” finalist, Silinda was praised for hitting the high notes, but tweeps were let down when the Springboks SA account omitted to tag her in the post, and instead, commented that her shoes and accessories were provided by Aldo. Nosipho Silinda singing the national anthem . The fallout from Swae Lee’s controversial tweet and his subsequent attempt to atone has been sweeping. While South Africans have been relentless in their attacks of the US rapper, a lot of Nigerian Twitter has been adding fuel to the fire by insisting that Nigerian artists are spearheading the genre’s global expansion. In an attempt to diffuse the tension, local amapiano star DJ Maphorisa shared a lengthy video from his Instagram Live in which he calls for unity between SA and Nigeria and insists that amapiano is an uncontrollable force that can’t be gatekept. “Let's Spread LOVE we are ONE 🇳🇬❤️ 🇿🇦🙏🏾 ,” he shared. MANGO GROOVE

Claire Johnston of Mango Groove, A Musical Journey with an 11-Piece Band

P roaudio Sound Press (PSP): As the lead vocalist of Mango Groove, how does Claire Johnston prepare herself physically and mentally for the demands of live performances on tour? Claire Johnston: Being physically and emotionally fit is crucial given the demands of constant travel and performing on stage, especially with back-to-back gigs. I've always prioritized self-care and maintaining reasonable fitness levels. As I've grown older, I've become more mindful of the importance of sleep, as losing my voice would mean no show. PSP: As Women's Month approaches in South Africa, what role has Claire Johnston played as a female artist in the music industry, and how does she see her influence inspiring young women pursuing careers in music? Claire Johnston: Mango Groove emerged during a challenging time in South Africa's history, as we were a mixed-race band when it wasn't well- received.

As a young woman fronting a band of men in 1985, I hope my journey can inspire young women today to pursue their dreams fearlessly and express themselves freely. PSP: How has touring with an 11-piece band influenced Mango Groove's performances and overall dynamic on stage? Claire Johnston: In 1989, Mango Groove expanded from an 8-piece to an 11-piece band to match the sound of our newly recorded album. The addition of 3 female backing vocalists brought high-energy craziness and fun to our performances. Though it presents logistical challenges, the experience on stage is incredibly rewarding. PSP: As a prominent female artist in the South African music scene, Claire Johnston has likely faced unique challenges and opportunities. How does she navigate the industry and use her platform to empower other women in music?

sound press August 2023 |

Claire Johnston: Growing up in the band and in the public eye hasn't always been easy. I've learned the importance of mental health, surrounding myself with trustworthy and honest people who have my best interests at heart. The entertainment industry can attract toxic individuals, so it's crucial to be discerning in choosing those you associate with. PSP: Singing the national anthem at prestigious events like the Rugby League Tri-Nations tournaments must have been an incredible honor. How did these experiences differ from performing with Mango Groove, and what emotions did Claire Johnston feel while representing her country through music? Claire Johnston: Singing the National Anthem at such events is a massive honor and a completely different experience from performing with the band. It's both exhilarating and nerve-wracking to be out on the field, exposed to thousands of people. Representing my country through music made me feel a mix of vulnerability and excitement, especially during the SA v England match at Twickenham in 2003. PSP: As an 11-member band, logistical challenges may arise. How does Mango Groove ensure that everyone is present and ready for their shows?

Claire Johnston: Over the years, we've encountered some hair-raising

logistical nightmares, but our professionalism and instant

communication through technology have made things easier. We take our work seriously, which helps us stay organized and committed to our performances. PSP: With such a diverse group of musicians, what unique experiences or anecdotes can Claire Johnston share about the interactions and camaraderie during tours? Claire Johnston: There have been both intense and humorous moments during our tours. From band member John Leyden's arrest for violating Pass Laws in the mid-'80s to getting incredibly lost trying to find a performance venue in Welkom, we've

had our share of stressful and hilarious times on the road.

PSP: Mango Groove's music blends pop and traditional South African township music. How does the band preserve the authenticity of these genres while infusing their own creative style? Claire Johnston: Preserving the authenticity of Kwela and Marabi music, which we deeply respect, is crucial. We infuse our creative style while being mindful not to parody or disrespect these genres. Our genuine love for the music and its history is evident in how we express ourselves.

sound press | August 2023

PSP: Mango Groove's music often carries messages of unity and cultural pride. Can Claire Johnston share any heartwarming stories from fans about how the band's music has impacted their lives? Claire Johnston: Over the nearly 40 years in the industry, we've received countless heartwarming stories from fans. Songs like 'Special Star' and 'Moments Away' have had a particularly strong impact on people of all ages, helping them get through tough times or celebrate joyful moments. We feel honored to have become a soundtrack to people's lives. PSP: The band has had a successful journey spanning decades. How does Mango Groove manage to stay relevant and maintain their passion for music after all these years? Claire Johnston: We are immensely grateful that new generations of South Africans continue to connect with our music. Our performances on stage are filled with joy and camaraderie, which we still thoroughly enjoy. Staying true to our roots while drawing inspiration from current trends allows us to evolve while preserving our unique sound. PSP: Can Claire Johnston give us a sneak peek into new music, exciting tours upcoming this year? Claire Johnston: We are feeling creatively inspired, and new material might be on the horizon. Additionally, we're exploring the possibility of a Mango Groove documentary. Our favorite thing is performing live, and we have several exciting gigs lined up in the following months. Stay updated by following mangogrooveofficial on Instagram!
