l’énorme site rassemblant les fermes Connors, Kirby et Lachaîne. Le tout a été suivi de la cérémonie où le président du CIL 2011, Gary Barton, a livré le discours d’ouverture d’un ton rempli d’émotion. « Je suis ravi de vous accueillir tous et toutes ici aujourd’hui au Concours international de labour 2011. Chacun d’en- tre vous donne vie à notre concours. Nous sommes tellement heureux de vous avoir ici pour faire partie de ce grand événement », a affirmé M. Barton versant plusieurs larmes.
C’est mardi dernier qu’avait lieu l’ouverture officielle du Concours international de labour 2011 (CIL) qui se déroule jusqu'au 24 septembre à Chute-à- Blondeau. Pour cette journée, il fallait s’armer de ses bottes de caoutchouc en raison du ter- rain détrempé et boueux. Les gens ont malgré tout été accueillis à bras ouvert en commençant par le défilé d’ouverture qui a sillonné les « rues » de

La bibliothèque de Rigaud était fière d’accueillir des représentants de la Nation Métis les 14, 15 et 16 septembre dernier. Un tipi avait été installé devant la bibliothèque et la population de Rigaud et des environs était invitée à se renseigner sur les origines et le mode de vie des Métis du Canada. Monsieur Archie Martin et son épouse, Pierrette, ont partagé avec le public leurs connaissances des Premières Nations et ont permis aux gens d’en apprendre d’avantage sur les liens qui les unissent aux peuples autochtones. Une exposition était aussi proposée à l’intérieur, où les peaux côtoyant les objets traditionnels, ont attiré bon nombres de visiteurs, dont les élèves du collège Bourget de Rigaud. « Ce fut une très belle rencontre qui a plu aux petits comme aux grands », indique la coordonnatrice de la bibliothèque, Geneviève Guérard. Dans le même esprit, la bibliothèque de

La bague du président revient sur le tapis élargie à « autre bijou ». Selon les critères de la dernière révision en 2010, le montant de la bague ou du bijou a été fixé à un maximum de 1 000 $ indexé sur le coût de la vie, taxes en sus. Cette politique traite d’ailleurs de l’ensemble des dépenses permises pour celui qui occupe la plus haute fonction du gouvernement régional. Mais pourquoi donner un cadeau, alors que la rémunération du président correspond au moins au double de ses collègues? répond le principal intéressé. La présidence c’est une responsabilité additionnelle. Dans l’industrie, ça se voit souvent lorsqu’une personne accepte un mandat particulier. Pour nous, c’est cette politique là.” Rémunération Selon la politique révisée en 2010, la rémunération de base du président des CUPR est de 31 525 $ alors que ses collègues reçoivent 16 074 $. À celle-ci, s’ajoute un montant de 150 $ pour participer à chacune des réunions de comités particuliers. Il en va demême pour ses confrères. Cependant, le président est appelé plus que tout autre membre à participer à plusieurs d’entres elles annuellement. De même, il est régulièrement appelé à représenter les Comtés lors de conférences ou d’événements, activités pour lesquelles il reçoit aussi une indemnité de 150 $ et le remboursement de ses dépenses, de même qu’un dédommagement pour son kilométrage. Le président, comme les membres du conseil, reçoivent 52 cents du kilomètre pour les 5 000 premiers kilomètres, montant qui descend à 46 cents pour les kilomètres excédents. « C’est un remerciement pour les services, quelque chose d’honorifique,

Jean-Yves Lalonde propose que la politique portant sur le présent offert au président des Comtés unis de Prescott et Russell soit modifiée. M. Lalonde achève son terme et comme il a siégé au même poste en 2007, il a déjà reçu la bague traditionnellement offerte. La durée du terme est d’un an. Chaque année, un montant d’un peu plus de 1 000 $ est alloué au président pour l’achat de la bague corporative ou d’un bijou souvenir portant le logo des Comtés unis de Prescott et Russell. M. Lalonde a suggéré que le cadeau puisse s’étendre à autres choses que celles prévues par la politique. Ceci, pour les présidents qui en sont à plus d’un terme. Ses collègues ont recommandé qu’une résolution en ce sens soit soumise lors de la prochaine réunion en octobre. Cette tradition de récompenser le président à la fin de son mandat existe depuis fort longtemps aux CUPR. Elle a été mise officiellement sur papier en 1999 mais elle était déjà en place, mentionne la trésorière Louise Lepage-Gareau. En poste depuis 32 ans, c’est ce qu’elle a toujours vu. LHJCN : La saison débute ce samedi
de Saint-Isidore les 16 et 17 septembre derniers. Dans un match complètement fou, le 16 septembre, à l’aréna de Saint-Isidore, les Cougars ont remporté une victoire de 10-9 en prolongation. Les Cougars ont dominé la deuxième période en inscrivant six buts prenant une avance de 7-4. Les Aigles ont répliqué par cinq buts au dernier tiers. C’est Max Bourgon qui a sauvé Vankleek Hill en prolongation avec son but marqué sur une passe de Yannick Boudrias. Les buts des Cougars ont été marqué par : Karl Walcott, Max Bourgon et Pier-Olivier Poulin qui ont marqué deux buts chacun; Yannick Boudrias,Matt Lalonde, Joël Chayer etMarc

Le magasin Meubles Levac Furniture, situé sur la route 34 à Vankleek Hill, fête le 65e anniversaire de sa fondation cette année. Les copropriétaires, Daniel Levac et sa sœur Nicole Larocque, maintiennent une tradition qui avait débuté en 1946 quand leur grand-père, Henri J. Levac, avait fondé son magasin sur la rue John. Leur père, Roch Levac, a géré la compagnie de 1958 aux années 1980. L’édifice original avait une superficie de 1 200 pieds carrés. Henri J. Levac, un cultivateur, avait déjà un moulin à scie à St- Isidore. Dans son magasin de Vankleek Hill, M. Levac offrait une vaste gamme de produits, incluant des poêles à bois et de l’équipement agricole. L’entreprise s’est agrandie souvent au cours des années. Du temps de Roch Levac, il y avait un employé. Aujourd’hui, le magasin a une superficie de 24 000 pieds carrés et emploie neuf personnes.

Comme de raison, après 65 ans, la famille Levac a établi une réputation solide dans la région. «Nous voyons beaucoup de la même clientèle. Nous avons plusieurs clients qui nous référent à leurs enfants.Notremagasin est très bien connu partout dans les régions de Prescott-Russell et Argenteuil », dit Daniel Levac. « Nous avons une bonne clientèle, et nous sommes fiers de la servir », ajoute Nicole Larocque. Il y a plusieurs raisons pour leur succès. Meubles Levac Furniture met l’accent sur le service après-vente et une approche sans pression. « Nous faisons un effort spécial afin de s’assurer que nous sommes toujours au courant des dernières tendances », explique Mme Larocque. « Nous faisons toujours des rénovations afin d’améliorer notre magasin ». « Notre succès est dû également à notre personnel. C’est un travail d’équipe », ajoute M. Levac. Les employés sont Angie Jubinville, Hélène Lauzon, Sylvain Lalonde, Jean- Sébastien Martineau, Normand Nepveu, Elaine VanderByl et Danny Wennekes. Depuis plusieurs années, Meubles Levac Furniture est membre du groupe d’achat Accent. « Ce regroupement nous permet d’avoir des économies que nous pouvons offrir à nos clients », explique M. Levac. The “Glengarry Light Infantry
Fencibles,” a regiment that portrays a
local militia raised during the 1812War,
