Si la demande de financement est approuvée, la municipalité pourrait recevoir 73 % du cout total de la construction du Complexe sportif de Limoges. La municipalité doit mettre le projet en attente jusqu›à ce qu›elle obtienne une réponse du ministère. La municipalité espère obtenir une réponse avant le mois de juin 2020. Dans l›éventualité que la municipalité ne reçoive pas de subvention, le projet ira tout de même de l›avant. – Annie Lafortune FINANCIAL REPORT The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO) reviewed the 2018-2019 term financial report, during its November 5 session. The report will go to the Ministry of Educa- tion. Total revenue was $189.5 million and expenses totalled $189.1 million, because of staff and administration economic efficiencies, and some opera- ting costs proving lower than projected. The report shows the CDSBEO with an accumulated surplus of $377,511, and an operating accumulated deficit of $881,000, which will be carried over into the 2019-2020 budget period. La Municipalité de Casselman se dotera d’une nouvelle caserne de pompiers en 2020. Une bonne nouvelle que les pompiers attendaient depuis 15 ans. C’est ce qu’a annoncé le maire Daniel Lafleur lors de la réunion du conseil du 10 décembre dernier. The UCDSB 2018-2019 graduation report showed an 86.6 per cent graduation rate for the Class of 2019, which is 3.4 per cent short of the 2020 goal of a 90 per cent graduation rate. Reaching that goal will require a combined total of 1731 graduating students from all UCDSB schools in 2020. Les résidents de Casselman subiront une légère augmentation du taux d’imposition de 2% pour l’année 2020. C’est ce qui ressort du budget qui a été adopté par le conseil de la municipalité le 10 décembre dernier. Plusieurs points sont à retenir dans ce nouveau budget. D’abord, la municipalité a été sur ses gardes ces derniers temps puisque la réserve des coffres atteint un montant de 557 274 $, ce qui permettra d’aller de l’avant, en 2020, avec les projets d’amélioration dans divers secteurs pour lesquels la municipalité compte bien obtenir des subventions. It was the most modern brick-making plant of its time, employed 125 workers at its peak production, and shipped out 50,000 to 65,000 CSJDLTBEBZ.BOZMPDBMGBNJMJFTUSBDF their history to the skilled workers who immigrated to Canada from England, Scotland, and Ireland, for jobs at the Russell brickworks. Any made-in-Russell bricks available for the Welcome to Russell signs project will become part of the brick foundations for the signs. Contact the historical
Anyone with old bricks sitting in their garage, storage shed, or base- ment should examine them because they may be needed for the Welcome to Russell sign project. The Russell Kin Club and the Russell Historical Society are working together to locate and salvage any heritage-quality bricks, which were made in Russell back when the village had its own brickworks. The old bricks will become part of the Kin Club’s Welcome to Russell signage project. “We want to preserve the history of the Village of Russell in these new signs,” stated Ash Babber, sign project co-chairman. “There were brick manufacturers in the Russell area, using local clay, since 1864,” stated Harry Baker, historical society spokesman. “For 100 years,

Le Club Optimiste d’Embrun a tenu sa guignolée le 1er décembre dernier. De nombreux bénévoles ont mis la main à la pâte en allant recueillir des denrées non périssables chez les résidents de la municipalité. Ainsi, plus d’une centaine de familles pourront profiter de la générosité des résidents qui n’ont pas hésité à donner pour la Banque alimentaire Bons Voisins. De plus, 4500 $ en dons d’argent, qui ont été gracieusement donnés, serviront à remplir les paniers de viande et de cartes-cadeaux. Ce n’est pas tout ! Dans le cadre des petits anges de Noël, chaque enfant de familles défavorisées recevra deux cadeaux. The Larose Forest is already a favou- rite place for local and out-of-town hikers and mountain bikers and it’s going to be even more popular soon. The United Counties of Prescott-Rus- sell (UCPR) will acquire 77 acres of woo- dland adjacent to the Larose Forest. The community forest straddles the boundary between The Nation Municipality and the City of Clarence-Rockland near the Village of Bourget, and the new land addition will increase the Larose Forest to more than 2700 acres and provide new additions to the existing network of recreational hiking and biking trails. “It’s going to be quite amazing,” said Louis Prévost, UCPR director of planning and forestry. “This (land) has real recrea- tion potential.” The new addition to the community forest is near the Village of Limoges. Prévost noted that when work begins on extending the existing Larose trails network into the new area, it will allow a connecting link to the recreational walking and biking paths in the village. UCPR council approved using $237,000 from the Larose Forest reserve fund for the land purchase. Prévost noted that the new trails’ addition would be res- tricted to hiking and biking, and not open to either ATVs or snowmobiles, because the terrain has many deep gullies.
La Bibliothèque publique de la municipalité de Russell a invité ses bénévoles, le 12 décembre dernier, à Russell, afin de les honorer pour le travail assidu qu’ils font tout au long de l’année. Ainsi, un banc public leur rendant hommage a été dévoilé devant la bibliothèque. Le temps et le dévouement des 97 bénévoles ont ainsi été soulignés. Les Chevaliers de Colomb d’Embrun ont tenu leur collecte de fonds, au mois de novembre, pour les Habits de neige de la Maison de la famille d’Embrun. Plusieurs organismes ont participé afin d’offrir aux enfants des habits chauds pour la période hivernale. Les donateurs ont une fois de plus été généreux.
