EXPANDING ACCESS ACROSS NORTHERN NEVADA TWO CLINICS, ONE MISSION:
In 2025, Northern Nevada HOPES reached a historic milestone: for the first time, both of our clinics, The Stacie Mathewson Wellness Center and The Jerry Smith Community Wellness Center, were fully operational, serving thousands of patients across northern Nevada. This dual-clinic model allows us to meet patients where they are, offering walk-in medical and behavioral health care, addiction medicine, behavioral health programs and services, pediatric services, and more; all under one unified mission of compassionate, community-centered healthcare. Together, these two facilities represent more than bricks and mortar, they are beacons of dignity, innovation, and access. From the heart of Midtown to the Corridor of Hope, HOPES is expanding its reach and deepening its impact.

CEO REFLECTIONS
Dear Friends, At Northern Nevada HOPES, we believe that the best way forward is to listen - deeply, consistently, and with compassion. In 2025, our theme, “ Navigating with Heart, Strength, and HOPE” , reflects how we’ve charted our course through challenges, guided by the voices of our patients, staff, and community. This year, we launched new programs, expanded services, and deepened our commitment to equitable care. From maternal health to addiction medicine, every innovation was born from listening. Our patients told us what they needed, and we responded with dignity, creativity, and action. We’ve faced headwinds: rising costs, shifting policies, and growing demand. But our compass never wavered. It pointed us toward resilience, toward community, and toward hope.
“ As we look ahead, we remain committed to navigating with purpose. With your support, we will continue to transform healthcare one patient, one innovation, one act of listening at a time .”
With gratitude,
Sharon Chamberlain CEO of HOPES

ADDICTION MEDICINE DEPARTMENT
A COMPASS FOR RECOVERY
In 2025, Northern Nevada HOPES formally established its Addiction Medicine Department, a dedicated hub for evidence-based care, peer support, and recovery services. This department brings together Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), behavioral health, and wrap-around services under one roof, ensuring patients receive coordinated, compassionate care at every stage of their recovery journey. The department is led by Dr. Taylor Tomlinson, board-certified in addiction medicine and family medicine, and supported by therapists, case managers, and peer recovery specialists. Whether a patient is navigating opioid use disorder, stimulant addiction, or alcohol dependency, our team meets them with dignity and expertise. The department also plays a key role in community education and advocacy, helping reduce stigma and expand access to life-saving care.
“We’re not just treating addiction, we’re treating people. We’re helping them reclaim their lives, rebuild relationships, and rediscover hope.” — Dr. Taylor Tomlinson
“Thank you my greatest team and therapist. They kindly provide me with service. They are very caring, respectful, courteous, and kind.” - HOPES Patient
BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ACCESS CLINIC
IMMEDIATE SUPPORT, LASTING IMPACT
In 2025, Northern Nevada HOPES opened the Behavioral Health Access Clinic, a walk-in mental health clinic designed to meet patients with compassion, immediacy, and dignity. Located at our new campus on 4 St., The Jerry Smith Community Wellness Center, this clinic offers same-day access to assessments for therapy, psychiatric care, and peer support, no appointment required. th The clinic was created in response to a critical gap in services for individuals experiencing acute mental health challenges, especially those who are unhoused or uninsured. By eliminating wait times and barriers to entry, HOPES is transforming how behavioral health care is delivered in northern Nevada.
“I’m so grateful for the exceptional care I’ve received. My therapist's professionalism, attentiveness, and life experience made all the difference. I truly believe his guidance saved my life and helped me reach the best place I’ve ever been.” - HOPES Patient
“This is access right where people live, and same-day appointments make it possible for them to walk right in and receive care the moment they need it.” — Kyle Sundland, LCSW, Director of Behavioral Health
MATERNAL & INFANT HEALTH SERVICES
NAVIGATING PREGNANCY & PARENTHOOD WITH SUPPORT
Launching in summer 2025, HOPES’ Maternal & Infant Health Services provides comprehensive care for pregnant and postpartum individuals, especially those navigating substance use, housing instability, or behavioral health challenges. This program includes prenatal and postpartum medical care, behavioral health support, pediatric services, and couplet care – ensuring both parent and baby receive coordinated services. It’s designed to reduce maternal mortality, improve birth outcomes, and support families during one of life’s most vulnerable transitions.
“We’re creating a safety net for families who’ve historically fallen through the cracks. Every baby deserves a healthy start and every parent deserves support.” — Dr. Faith Whittier, CMO
“HOPES has been wonderful; I feel incredibly supported. The Maternal Health team is both knowledgeable and compassionate. This assistance at HOPES has truly made a difference.” - HOPES Patient
ADDRESSING HIDDEN ADDICTIONS GAMBLING IOP
In response to growing community need, HOPES launched a specialized Gambling Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). This program is one of the few in Nevada designed specifically for individuals struggling with compulsive gambling - a condition often overlooked but deeply impactful. The Gambling IOP offers group therapy, individual counseling, financial recovery planning, and peer support. It’s tailored to help patients understand the emotional and behavioral roots of gambling addiction, rebuild trust with loved ones, and develop healthier coping strategies.
“Gambling addiction doesn’t always look like crisis, but it can quietly devastate lives. Our program helps patients navigate their way back to stability, one step at a time.”
— Allen Johnson, IOP Coordinator
“I am glad that I can be open with my issues and not be judged. I appreciate my therapist.” - HOPES Patient
FORWARD INNOVATION PSYCHIATRIC RESIDENT PROGRAM
How Donors Support Patient Care:
Primary Care Consultation Working alongside integrated care teams to provide psychiatric insight and treatment recommendations.
Because of donors who believe deeply in access to compassionate, high-quality mental health care, Northern Nevada HOPES was able to launch its new Psychiatric Resident Program - an innovative partnership with the University of Nevada School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Sciences. This collective generosity nearly fully funded the program’s $250,000 first-year budget, an investment that began making an immediate difference this July with the arrival of three fourth-year psychiatric residents. We see the growing demand for mental health services every day, and we know that meeting this need requires investing in people. This program allows us to train the next generation of psychiatric providers right here in our community, expanding access to expert, integrated care for our patients.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): Supporting patients with behavioral health and substance use challenges through assessments, medication management, and therapeutic interventions.
Outpatient Therapy Strengthening collaboration between therapists and psychiatrists to deliver holistic, patient- centered care.
Together, this program is building a strong pipeline of compassionate, skilled providers who will serve our community for years to come, made possible by donors who believe in the power of training, access, and care close to home.

STAYING ON COURSE FINANCIAL OVERVIEW
The national healthcare landscape continues to evolve, creating financial and operational challenges for both nonprofit and for ‑ profit systems. Rising costs, workforce pressures, and increased demand are reshaping how care is delivered across the country.
At Northern Nevada HOPES, these shifts directly impact our ability to serve the community’s most vulnerable members. Navigating this moment requires heart for those who rely on us, strength to adapt, and hope grounded in our mission. BOARD OF DIRECTORS OVER A DECADE OF DIRECTION
“When I became Board President over a decade ago, Northern Nevada HOPES was already a beacon of compassionate care. But what we’ve accomplished since then has been nothing short of transformative. Together, we opened two new facilities, launched dozens of life- changing programs, and expanded care to thousands – including the creation of Hope Springs, our bridge housing community. Most importantly, we did it by listening to our patients, who continue to be our compass guiding every decision and every innovation. As I prepare to step down in 2026, I’m very optimistic about our future. It’s my honor to introduce Dr. Trudy Larson, HOPES’ co-founder and a lifelong champion of public health, as the next Board President. With her leadership and the unwavering support of our staff, patients, board, and community, I know HOPES will continue to navigate toward a future where everyone has access to dignified, transformative care. ”
