MONTEBELLO | La 5e édition de la Foire gourmande Outaouais-Est ontarien a été annoncée dans la bonne humeur et la convivialité, mardi matin dans le cadre enchanteur du Fairmont le Château Mon- tebello. L’événement, qui prendra place du 22 au 24 août, à Lefaivre et Montebello, continue de mobiliser les acteurs clé de l’agroalimen- taire et du développement économique et touristique, de part et d’autres de la rivière des Outaouais. Initiée par le Réseau agroali- mentaire de l’Est ontarien (RAEO) et la Table agroalimentaire de l’Outaouais (TAO), la Foire est l’exemple parfait d’un partenariat réussi. «On dit souvent que la rivière nous sépare mais je dirais plutôt que dans notre cas, elle nous unit. Nous avons un partenariat formidable», s’est exclamée Carole Lavigne du RAEO. «C’est un projet d’envergure qui permet de faire découvrir nos produits et qui alimente le sentiment d’appartenance à nos belles régions», a pour sa part affirmé la présidente de la TAO, Diane Clément. Quiet election prospects in A-P Township

Various During the week of July 7 to 14, Hawkesbury OPP officers responded to 224 occur- rences. Three break and enter incidents were reported. One assault and four incidents of theft were reported. Three RIDE initiatives were conducted. There were two impaired- driving-related incident. Out of 224 occurrences, 24 were concluded with accusations. Thefts On July 7, 2014, Hawkesbury OPP received a complaint about a theft of coins from a cash registry at the Trillium Medical Center. Constable Natasha Huygen investigated the matter. The investigation revealed that there was no forced entry and that the theft occurred sometime over the weekend. An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the cash register. On July 13, a theft was reported from a mini-van that was parked overnight at a Princi- pale Street residence in Chute-à-Blondeau. Investigation revealed that the victim stayed overnight at a friend’s residence and left his vehicle unlocked. During the night someone took a briefcase from the vehicle. The briefcase contained a wallet and important payroll papers. The matter is still under investigation. Break and enter A break-in was reported in a residential garage on County Road 10 in The Nation in the afternoon of July 8. The investigation revealed that the theft occurred at an unknown time during the previous weeks. Someone gained access to the locked garage and took a 55cc Husqvarna chainsaw and a Mastercraft drill. Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Danyk Lafrance at the Hawkesbury OPP Detachment at 613-632-2729 or 1-888-310-1122. During the morning of July 12, a break and enter incident occurred at the CN Rail pro- perty located at 248Main Street inVankleek Hill. The investigation revealed that someone gained access to an office via a broken window sometime between July 9 and 12. The burglar or burglards stole some money, keys to a railroad truck and a laptop computer. The matter is under investigation. A break-in was reported last night at a Concession 15 residence in La Nation. The inves- tigation suggests that someone accessed the residence through a basement window sometime during the evening between 6:00 and 10:00 pm. The residence was ransac- ked. The items stolen are evaluated at up to $2000. PLANTAGENET | So far Mayor Jean-Yves Lalonde is going unchallenged as mayor of Alfred-Plantagenet Township and the October election may see little need for many polling officials to deal with the rest of the council candidate ballots. Lalonde remains the sole registered can- didate for the mayor’s seat as of mid-July. While he looks forward to another term as the township’s mayor, Lalonde is not ruling out the chance of a last-minute challenger filing papers within the next month or two. “Everyone has until Sept. 12,”Lalonde said during a recent interview. “But I’m quite happy to put forth another four years to help bring our township forward for our residents. Alfred College history corrected

ALFRED | The head of the council for Al- fred College made a point of correcting an error of fact in how some people see the history of the local institution. Tom Manley, president of the college’s community council, stated that the Uni- versity of Guelph deserves full credit for keeping the college open for the past two decades. Manley made the statement while attending as part of a delegation at the June committee of the whole session of the United Counties of Prescott-Russell council (UCPR).

During the Progressive Conservative government of Mike Harris in the late 1990s, the college operated under the Min- istry of Agriculture and there was talk then of closing it down. “At that time Guelph (university) stepped up to the plate,” said Manley. “Let’s not for- get they did that.” The university agreed to take on Alfred College as part of its agricultural program but then began over the years to start re- ducing the number and variety of courses available, transferring them to its main

campus. Earlier this year now Guelph an- nounced plans to close the college down because of budgetary restraints. Progressive Conservative party leader Tim Hudak, who was an MPP during the Harris government, and local candidate Roxane Villeneuve-Robertson, have both criticized Liberal Premier Kathleen Wynne for the decision to close the college. Manley presented a proposal from the college council for revitalizing Alfred Col- lege as an independent and autonomous post-secondary facility.

The d’action régional pour la sécurité (CARS) recently announced the winners of the 2014 drawing contest held to warn motorists about the dangers of impaired and distracted driving. Among the winners were Pleasant Corners Public School pupils Seiddy Laloux (grade 5) and Angelica Campeau (grade 7), shown with Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police Constable Pierre Dubois.
