Converting your home may mean you have to give a product presentation to other family members in order to include them in the decision. Teenage daughters who have their own favourite brands are often the most difficult to convince. You might hear, “Who made Dad an expert in cosmetics, or Mum either, for that matter?” One successful strategy that some parents use with teenagers is that if they insist on using competitor’s products, they must pay for them themselves. Even with that policy, you will have to be able to explain to them the advantages of using Melaleuca products as compared to what they are currently using. Your best and most convincing product presentation may need to be to your own family. Without question, converting your household is essential. Your “Why” As you envision your future, what do you see? Ask yourself how a long-term Melaleuca business will impact your life. What would life be like with and without that business? Establish your “why”! What is it that will continue to drive you forward even when things get tough? It might be the concept of being totally without debt and having all your credit cards, the car, and even the mortgage paid off. It might be your determination to help your kids get a university education, or that you have had the wisdom to find out what you will eventually receive from Social Security and that you cannot imagine trying to scrape by on that amount. Or it could be because you have always wanted the financial freedom to go places and do things. Whatever your “why” is, remembering it is essential to your success. We have all heard the statement, “When you are up to your ‘neck’ in alligators, it’s hard to remember that your primary objective was to drain the swamp.” There are times in our lives when the trials of life itself get in the way of our goals. It’s important to not only have our life goals written down, but to also write down the reasons why it is important to us to reach our goals. If we don’t write them down, when the alligators show up it is all too easy to rationalise that the original goal was not all that important to us after all. Those who do not have their “why” written down often spend their entire life fighting alligators.

So you have decided to build a successful Melaleuca business! Congratulations! Deciding is the first step! The next several steps are just as simple, but, quite frankly, take a lot more work. I have seen literally thousands of people achieve their goal of building a great Melaleuca business. They all have a few things in common that I think would be helpful for you to know in order to help assure your success. I will try to tell you about a few things that I have learned over the last 30 years. The Decision First, let’s take a look at your decision to build a business. How firm is your decision? What is it based on? How much resolve is there behind your decision? How much time and energy are you willing to invest? What kind of success are you thinking about? Have you decided to dabble or to really get to work? Assuming your decision is that you are really going to get to work (that’s the only decision that will produce any significant results), let’s move to the next step. The Product The key to Melaleuca’s long-term track record of success over the years has been our superior products. Those who purchase our products month after month desire healthier, more vibrant lives and want not only to live longer, but also want to enjoy life and good health, even in their old age. They become lifelong customers and they refer other customers. They are the lifeblood of our company! Those who are serious about building a Melaleuca business should convert their homes to Melaleuca products. A fun way of doing that is to go through the house and box up all your non-Melaleuca products and then take the box over to a neighbour’s house and announce that you are getting all the harmful chemicals out of your house and that the neighbours can have them if they would like them. Many great stories have come from that process. It quickly opens a dialog with the neighbours about the value of Melaleuca products. Regardless of whether you give your old products to your neighbour, converting your own home to Melaleuca products is an essential step to building a healthy Melaleuca business.

It’s Time to “Ride!” Converting your home and writing down your “why” is like saddling up. It is essential for the trip, but you don’t really get anywhere until you decide to ride. “Riding” is where the action is. Riding is the day-in and day-out business activities that bring us success in our business. In our business, “riding” is implementing the Seven Critical Activities . Focusing on these activities is critical to our day-to-day business success. When I travel and speak at various Melaleuca events, I often ask how many people in the group can name the Seven Critical Business -Building Activities . I am often amazed to learn how few have taken the time to learn them. It’s critical for every business to know and understand the Seven Critical Activities because they make up a simple system that, implemented consistently, guarantees success. The Seven Critical Business-Building Activities are: • Keep Building Your Contact List The first critical activity is, of course, to create a contact list of potential Melaleuca customers and business builders. Without the list, you cannot do any of the other activities. The goal would be to have from 50 to 100 names of prospects who you would like to someday have either as a customer or a business builder. Your own circle of friends and acquaintances are your most promising contacts. Approaching Your Friends The most important thing to remember is that as you contact these people, their response is not a test of their loyalty or friendship to you. If they turn down the opportunity to learn about your business or your products, it should not reflect on your relationship. Nothing is lost. You are still friends and you can approach them again at a later time. “No” is not a reflection of you. It simply means, “Not yet. I need more information.” When approaching someone, we need not become pests. When someone turns us down, we need to simply understand that we can always approach them again later when we have something more to tell them. We should never make people uncomfortable in our approach. We have an exciting message and an exciting story. Contacting people and sharing our story should be an exciting adventure for us as well as for them. The Other Five Activities The other five activities should be just as fun and rewarding as the first two: making presentations, doing 48-Hour Strategy Sessions , celebrating success, holding Fast Tracks , and leading by example can be very enjoyable. They build relationships as well as create financial success for those who will implement them. Learn them well. They pay tremendous dividends! • Set Appointments • Make Presentations • Hold 48-Hour Strategy Sessions • Celebrate Success • Always Be Involved with Fast Track • Lead by Example Your Contact List

Teaming Up It’s twice as much fun and more effective to team up with someone else in the building process. It’s interesting to note how many of our Executive Directors have teamed up with someone else in their business on their journey to success. The concept is one of doing meetings together, calling each other daily to give moral support, goal setting and brainstorming together, and holding each other accountable for implementing the Seven Critical Activities . These business-building teams have become lifelong friendships and relationships that not only excel from a business perspective, but add meaning to life itself. The secret here is to find someone who is as passionate as you are about building a business. Teams need to be “equally yoked.” That is to say, each team member must be equally as passionate as the other about meeting their goals. One team member consistently dragging the other just does not work. So how do you create such a team? You commit to each other often and build it together. But what if there is no one in your business who wants to make such a commitment? You keep looking! Perhaps it will be your next enrolment. Many Executive Directors had been building a business for several years before they found someone who was as passionate as they were in creating a better future. Having a great team is the ultimate business scenario, but if you don’t yet have such a team member, know that success really starts with you! Don’t think you have to wait for someone to join you. But it’s powerful when it happens, and if it does, make sure you hold up your end of the bargain. Tenacity Realise that nothing worth having in life comes easy. There will be hurdles and challenges and ups and downs. The one thing that is common to all successful business builders and those who actively achieve their Melaleuca goals is that they have the tenacity to stick it out. Tenacity is clearly the most important trait of the successful business builder. Those who never lose this focus have a definite advantage over those who get distracted and do not stick to their plan. Review your “why” often. Develop faith and confidence in yourself and in your people. When things get tough, remember tenacity will always bring you through. Among all other traits, tenacity will be the most important factor in determining the winner.

CHANGED FOR GOOD by Darrin Johnson, Senior Vice President of Sales

One of my favourite Broadway shows is Wicked . Toward the end, the two main characters Elphaba and Glinda perform the song, “For Good.” The lyrics focus on how their friendship has changed them both, putting each on the pathway to her own destiny.

The Power of Relationships Extensive research shows that satisfaction in our vocations can be traced back to one question: “Do you have a best friend at work?” The research strongly indicates happiness is driven less by WHAT we’re doing, and more about WHO we are with. (Wellbeing: The Five Essential Elements by Tom Rath & Jim Harter, 2010.) I can immediately think of so many Melaleuca examples, but here’s one that comes to mind. Just over a year ago, I was honoured to have dinner with a brand-new team in Reno, Nevada, where I met North American Director 7 and speech pathologist Julie Smith and her enroller, North American Director 9 and kindergarten teacher Mandy Limbert. I met a few of their team members, and I was so impressed with everyone I met. I remember commenting to the group over dinner that relationships like these are the foundation of business and personal growth. Julie and Mandy shared with me how much they appreciated how North American National Director 5 Brooke Paulin had taken such an interest in helping them build their businesses. Both of them attribute much of their success to their relationship with Brooke. Here’s what Mandy recently told me about that relationship: “I’m not exaggerating when I say Brooke has changed my life. Brooke has been there every step of the way. She taught me how to approach, then flew to Reno to do my first in-home. She taught me how to enrol, how to follow up with customers, how to add names to my contact list, how to place people in my organisation, and how to watch a webcast with a guest. She taught me to dream and gave me hope for a better financial future that was almost dead inside of me at the time. She helped me find builders and did strategy sessions for them at first, then taught me how to do it.

Glinda begins, “I’ve heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason.” While she doesn’t know if it’s true, she sings, “But I know I’m who I am today because I knew you.” Elphaba responds, “Whatever way our stories end, I know you have re-written mine by being my friend.” The song ends with both women singing, “Because I knew you I have been changed for good.” I love how the lyrics put a spotlight on the power relationships have to transform our lives in profound ways. How the phrase “for good” is used to reference both personal improvement and a permanent change. Donald Clifton, psychologist and business executive, once said, “Relationships help us to define who we are and what we can become. In turn, they are transforming the lives of others. Like all our teams, they are forging a chain of change for good that goes on and on. Develop Your Destiny Time and time again, we have seen our Marketing Executives bloom in ways they never have before. How many traditional jobs put their employees in the driver’s seat and let them choose when they get a promotion and when they get a bonus? How many traditional jobs provide unlimited access to professional development trainings? How many traditional jobs acknowledge and celebrate every step toward success? silent moments of reflection. Speaking with the voice of experience, he points out that, “Life changing decisions are almost always made in silence.” Very soon, we will be at the dawn of a new year. Is 2016 the year for you to get to know your other self? Have you had enough of the status quo? Do you want your life to be special? Is it important to you and your family to succeed? Another year could pass by without any meaningful changes and you could continue living the same okay life. Or, over the holiday period, you could give yourself a moment of silence dream about what’s really important for you in your life and make a decision; make a truly life changing decision. It could be the best thing you ever do, it could lead you to Senior Director, Financial Freedom and the life you really want. What are you waiting for, find a quiet place, and find it now.

they do have at least one thing in common. It’s an important thing but it requires no special skill, no extensive experience and no money. It can be done in a moment but it could change the way you live the rest of your life. What is it you ask? Well, I think all our Senior Directors can pinpoint a certain moment in time when they made a life-changing decision. According to Napoleon Hill, after 30 years of research this is the most important component of success, he calls it, “Knowing your other self.” He suggests that only when you have had enough of the way things are and you are completely uncertain of the future do you look inside yourself, find your true resourcefulness and make a decision that completely changes your life for the better. Having built Melaleuca from the very beginning Frank too understands this concept intimately. He knows his other self very, very well and without making his own life-changing decision Melaleuca

As 2015 draws to a close I want to reflect on something very special that happened this year; a record number of Senior Director Advancements. Once again I would like to pay tribute to Karen & Matt Buttery, Yvette & Justin Brewin, Jennifer Robinson, Ian & Karen Muntelwit, Carole Sellar and Grant Thorpe who all advanced in the Senior Director Ranks in 2015. On first glance, this special group have little in common. They don’t all come from the same city, they have different backgrounds, skills and personal attributes; they build their businesses differently, they enrolled in Melaleuca at different times and they have different goals. But, they have all been successful in the last 12 months. I think that these Senior Directors prove Frank’s assertions that “Melaleuca is a business for the little guy” and “success at Melaleuca can be achieved no matter when you join.” It sounds almost unbelievable but it’s true, no matter who you are or when you enrol, you can achieve your dream life at Melaleuca. Although the members of this Senior Director group are very different people,

for everyone to grow their business and hold each other accountable. “We have made this a priority in our life and with that made some sacrifices! There are a few more weeds in the garden and dirty laundry lying around the house. Getting together weekly has allowed everyone to check in with where they are and adjust accordingly”. If you have not done so already, take this opportunity to commit to your Melaleuca business for 90 days. Work with your support team and invite the rest of your team to join you on this journey. Together you could find yourself in a similar position as Ian and Karen — advancing your business to Senior Director and changing countless lives along the way!

Having the privilege of connecting and listening to our Marketing Executives on a weekly basis, I am often asked what is the key to those who succeed versus those who don’t. Can you guess what that may be? It’s those that stick with their activity for at least 90 days who see success. It takes at least 90 days to see your efforts pay off sometimes even longer! For many, after a week or two, because they don’t see instant results, they decide to give up, stop working or believe it won’t work all together. I like to think of it like a popcorn maker! It takes a few minutes before the kernels start to pop. If you turned off the machine after ten seconds because the kernels were not popping, you would never experience the joy of eating popcorn! Your Melaleuca business is the same. You need to allow the machine to run long enough before you see the pop! Seeing this proven just recently, Ian and Karen Muntelwit advanced their business to Senior Director 2 in October. When asked what has led to much of their recent success, Ian confirmed it was not only himself and Karen making a 90 day

game plan quarterly, but starting all his new business partners off with a solid 90 day game plan. According to Ian, its key everyone commits to action for at least 90 days. It takes at least that long to see hard work pay off regardless of what you are doing! Often it’s the work he and Karen put in months back that finally comes to fruition. It could be a timing thing or just accommodating everyone’s schedules. It’s the consistency of the activity through the 90 days that makes a difference as well. “If I only worked every third month, I would have to keep starting over and over barely ever getting ahead. How can you expect others to work month in and month out when you are not leading by example? The Pacesetter Programme also fits so well with the 90 day commitment of all new business partners. Essentially everyone has their month of enrolment, plus two additional months to reach Director and receive double the advancement bonus. When you think of Benjamin Franklin, you might think of the United States Constitution, a kite and a lightning bolt, bifocals, or Poor Richard’s Almanac. Benjamin Franklin was an accomplished polymath and is widely considered the first “self-made man”—someone whose success comes not from station, wealth, or connections, but from personal industry. As the fifteenth child of a soap and candle maker, Franklin was not born into privileged circumstances. The influence he still has on the world today did not come from his profession as a printer, but from his personal pursuits, fueled by constant curiosity and never-ending goal setting.

He is now in qualification to become Melaleuca’s newest Corporate Director in the near future—a feat he accomplished in just over seven years. Daily attention to progress has paved Alex’s success. It’s worked for him in his fitness goals as well. He has worked diligently to lose body fat. He began at 19% body fat and is now at an impressive 14% with the goal of getting to 11 or 12%. “To achieve a goal, you have to get to work and stick with it,” Alex says. “It’s not easy, but you have to form a habit so you will continue to progress regardless of whether you feel like it or not.” Making Excellence a Habit

The fundamentals of goal setting are familiar to most: write down your goal; break larger goals into smaller, short- term goals; create actionable items; give yourself a deadline; follow your plan to achieve your goal and then celebrate. While those fundamentals never change, delving deeper into goal-setting strategy can help you achieve your goal easier and faster. When Franklin was just 20 years old, he tasked himself with obtaining moral perfection. He wrote a list of thirteen virtues he felt encompassed perfection. Every day he monitored his actions and if he violated one of his virtues, he marked it on a chart. Eventually, he came to grips with the fact that while he would never have a spotless chart, he could always improve himself and he never stopped trying. His daily routine reflects what we know about leading yourself and reaching goals. He set a goal every morning and reflected upon it every night; he was organised; and he planned for success. Writer and philosopher Will Durant expanded upon an idea of Aristotle’s when he said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” Franklin found power in routine and persistence, creating habits of excellence throughout his life.

Don’t Just Write Your Goal Down—Define It “You need to have a crystal clear vision of what you’re going to accomplish,” Alex says. So your goal is to buy a house. Don’t stop there. Write down the details— a 2,500 square-foot Craftsman- style home with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an apron sink in the kitchen. Envision every aspect of your goal. Create a vision board. Post an image on your computer desktop or your phone’s lock screen. Knowing exactly what your goal is and having numerous visual reminders of it will keep you focused. Once you know what you want to accomplish, it’s imperative to break down a step-by-step system to get there. “If you want to lose weight, you need to know exactly how many pounds you want to lose. You need to know the process of how to lose those pounds—how to work out, how to eat,” Alex says. define As you break down your goal into daily steps, make sure the first few requirements are things you can easily ace.

Then determine how much your down payment will be, how to save for it, monitor your credit score, qualify for a loan, and shop for your house.

Start Each Day with Direction start Every day is an opportunity for progress. Start each morning with a manageable, measurable action item. If you’re trying to lose weight, your daily directive might be to refrain from eating desserts that day. If you’re focusing on finding new customers, you might commit to call two names on your contact list or strike up a conversation with one of the parents at soccer practice. This is where Alex says it’s critical to understand the steps and milestones necessary to make the end goal possible. “If you want to achieve the next status, you have to know exactly what is needed,” Alex says. “You have to know how many calls to make a day, how many presentations you’ll do a day.”
