Grant Crack expects Liberal Red will remain the political colour for Glengarry- Prescott-Russell, even if he is no longer MPP for the riding after the June pro- vincial election. Crack issued a news release Thursday morning, April 5, to announce his decision to step down as MPP, about a month before the official campaign period starts for the June 7 provincial election. At present, he has no immediate plans following the June 7 election. “I’m interested in a number of things,” he said. “I’m open to anything that will make me happy.” Crack’s focus for now is on finishing as much business for GPR as possible before his official departure and also on supporting the new Liberal candidate following the GPR Liberal Association’s nomination process. Pierre Leroux, mayor of Russell Township, has announced that he will see the nomi- nation as the new Liberal candidate for GPR Crack expressed support for Leroux’s chances of success. The victim gets a phone call from someone claim- ing to be a retailer who warns them that their credit card is compromised. They are told to report the problem. When they hang up to do so, the con artist is still on the line. When victims of the scam try to phone either 911 or their bank, they end up speaking with the con artist. The con artist then tells the victim to transfer money into a “safe account, which is controlled by the con artist. Il a ouvert le dépanneur Pierre et fils. En 2010, Pierre Leroux a étendu son entreprise à Casselman. Cette même année, il a remporté le siège de conseiller à la municipalité de Russell. Puis, après la perte tragique de son ami, maire et collègue, JP St. Pierre, pendant la campagne élec- torale en 2014, M. Leroux a remporté les élections municipales et est devenu maire de la Municipalité de Russell. S’il est choisi pour représenter le Parti libéral, il affrontera sa collègue au conseil municipal, Amanda Simard, qui a été choisie candidate du Parti progressiste-conservateur l’an dernier. Une éventuelle élection de Pierre Leroux à Queen’s Park exigerait qu’il cède son poste de maire de la Municipalité de Russell. Mais dans le cas contraire, le principal intéressé confirme qu’il ne quitterait pas la vie politique. « Si je ne gagne pas, je me représen- terai maire parce que j’adore servir ma communauté. »

Crack, le maire de la Municipalité de Russell, Pierre Leroux, a annoncé son intention de se présenter à l’investiture comme candidat du Parti libéral de l’Ontario dans Glengarry-Prescott-Russell. M. Leroux a indiqué que c’est le député Crack lui-même qui a sondé son intérêt à se présenter. « C’était un grand honneur. Je ne m’attendais pas à ça », a-t-il confié. Dans un communiqué, celui-ci a déclaré vouloir « reprendre là où Grant a laissé et continuer de faire pression pour des inves- tissements qui font une réelle différence dans la vie des gens. » Une occasion de changer les règles Le maire de la Municipalité de Russell, qui se décrit comme « financièrement conser- vateur et socialement libéral », estime que son arrivée éventuelle à Queen’s Park lui permettra de faire des changements. « Je vois une occasion pour des change- ments positifs au niveau provincial. Comme maire, j’ai souvent vu qu’il fallait suivre les règles que la province mettait en place. RURAL VOICE MISSING ON FIREFIGHTER CERTIFICATION PLAN

The mayors on counties council are an- gry that the provincial government failed to include the rural viewpoint in the new mandatory certification process it created for municipal fire departments throughout the province. Mayor Gary Barton of Champlain Township raised the issue during the March 14 com- mittee of the whole session of the United Counties of Prescott-Russell council (UCPR). Le conseil municipal a pris cette déci- sion lors de la dernière réunion tenue le mercredi 4 avril. Depuis quelques semaines, la Chambre de commerce de Clarence- Rockland demandait au conseil de prolonger les heures d’ouverture le dimanche. La Cité a donc publié un sondage pour recueillir l’opinion publique à ce sujet. Au total, 70,2 % des personnes inter- rogées ont convenu que les commerces de détail devraient être autorisés à rester ouverts jusqu’à 21 h le dimanche. De plus, 55 % croient que les commerces devraient être ouverts jusqu’à minuit, tous les jours

The municipal council came to this decision at the last meeting held on Wednesday, April 4. This comes several weeks after the Clarence-Rockland Chamber of Commerce made a request to council to extend business hours to 9 p.m. on Sunday. ATG BREAKS GROUND IN CLARENCE-ROCKLAND

Oakwood has partnered with construction company PCL and architectural and engi- neering firm IDEA, as well as other local companies. “Many of the people working on this building are local companies who employ or spend local, and most workers are also from here,” said Desjardins. “Fifteen years ago, A.T.G. chose the city of Clarence-Rockland for their young company. With their products sold all over the world, they have spread our municipality’s name globally.” Excavation has begun on the site on Industrielle Street and much of the top soil has already been stripped away. A ground-breaking ceremony was held on Monday, April 9, for ATG Industries Manufacturing’s new facility on Industrielle Street in Clarence-Rockland. ATG Industries Inc. (ATG), a manufacturing company for the aerospace and high-tech sectors, will be moving from their current headquarters at 729 Industrielle, to a new, larger facility at 731 Industrielle. Currently, ATG employs approximately 40 people. Once the project is complete, the new 26 280 square foot ATG facility will employ over 50 people. “This new building is a great investment for this community,” said Mayor Guy Desjar- dins. “It will reconfigurate our industrial park and send a strong message that Clarence- Rockland is open for business and can ac- commodate the needs of a manufacturing sector.” ATG specializes in multi axis computer OVNFSJDBMDPOUSPM $/$ NJMMJOHBOE$/$ turning or raw metals and surface finishing, such as chemical films, anodization, liquid and power coating, for the aerospace and high-tech sectors. “Parts manufactured by ATG go to the most remote mountain top observatories, deep-ocean mapping expedi- tions, life sciences, to the entertainment industry and help our troops that serve our country, to name a few,” said Jean-Philippe Ayotte, ATG President and one of its owners.

Le défi Relais pour la vie, qui aura lieu le vendredi 18 mai, a été lancé officiel- lement par un comité d’élèves à L’École secondaire catholique L’Escale. Le lancement a eu lieu à L’Escale, le mercredi 4 avril, devant une assemblée de 600 élèves. Le comité, composé d’une douzaine d’élèves, a fait une présentation afin d’expliquer à leurs camarades le but du Relais pour la vie, comment s’y inscrire et participer. Le Relais pour la vie a comme objectif d’amasser des fonds pour la Société cana- dienne du cancer. Cette année marquera la deuxième édition du Relais à L’Escale. L’ob- jectif des élèves est de récolter 15 000 $. Le Relais pour la Vie aura lieu le 18 mai, de 11 h à 23 h, au terrain de football de l’école. Pour participer, les élèves et les membres de la communauté doivent former des équipes de 6 à 12 personnes. Ils doivent amasser une moyenne de 100 $ par membre. Il y a aussi des frais d’inscription, qui comprend le t-shirt pour le Relais, le luminaire et le souper. Le comité organisateur est aussi à la recherche de survivants du cancer dans la communauté, afin de les honorer lors

Le bénévolat, c’est aussi pour les jeunes!
Certains pensent que le bénévolat repose en majeure partie sur les bé- bé-boumeurs et les retraités. Or, sa- viez-vous que 66 % des Canadiens de 15 à 19 ans font du bénévolat, ce qui représente le plus haut taux parmi les différents groupes d’âge? Tout comme leurs aînés, les jeunes souhaitent contribuer au mieux-être de leur collectivité. Leur engagement leur permet à la fois d’apprendre à mieux se connaître et de faire valoir leurs talents. Ils comptent aussi sur le bénévolat pour développer de nouveaux réseaux sociaux et ainsi faciliter leur inté- gration professionnelle.

Le/la praticienne en réflexologie ne pose pas de diagnostic, ne traite pas des conditions spécifiques et ne prescrit pas de régime de soins. Elle vise à apporter un état de détente et de paix intérieure pour diminuer le stress et rétablir l’équilibre du corps ou son homéostasie. Il n’y a nul besoin de vous dévêtir. Il suffit de porter des vêtements légers de détente. Vous serez invité à vous allonger sur une chaise ou une table ergonomique pour la durée de la séance.
