Plus la taille de l’échantillon est importante pour l’étude, plus l’information en résultant sera utile. L’étude porte sur les résidents franco- phones dans les deux régions. Les partici- pants doivent être âgés de 18 ans ou plus, maîtriser le français, avoir un poids supé- rieur à la moyenne pour leur âge et leur taille, et ne pas avoir subi de chirurgie de réduction de poids au cours des 12 der- niers mois. Quiconque a été forcé d’adopter temporairement unmode de vie sédentaire en raison d’une blessure ou d’une maladie n’est pas non plus admissible à faire partie de l’étude.

Un groupe de recherche de l’Université du Québec a besoin de bénévoles pour une étude sur les questions sociales entourant l’activité physique et sur la façon dont elle touche les personnes ayant un mode de vie sédentaire. « Ce que nous voulons savoir, c’est ce que les gens font pour l’activité physique, a déclaré Dre Aurélie Baillot, lors d’un entre- tien téléphonique. Que font-ils, qu’est-ce qu’ils veulent faire? » Dre Baillot est l’un des nombreux cher- cheurs engagés dans une étude sur l’obésité et l’activité physique, grâce à un partenariat entre l’Université du Québec et l’hôpital Montfort à Ottawa. Ceux qui participeront à l’étude rece- vront 20 $ pour couvrir le coût des frais de stationnement et de l’essence lorsqu’ils vont à l’hôpital Montfort ou à l’Université duQué- bec. Dart Aerospace apporte plus d’emplois à Hawkesbury
raisons de la décision de fermer la filiale de l’Oregon et de «centraliser» ses opérations au Canada. L’un est la réduction des coûts et l’autre est le taux de change actuel qui est favorable pour les entreprises comme Dart qui exportent des produits aux États-Unis et dans le monde. «La plupart de nos affaires sont interna- tionales, a déclaré Madore. Avec la vigueur du dollar américain et le taux de change avec le dollar canadien, il y a eu une économie de 20 à 25 p. 100 dans ce domaine». Dart Aeros- pace ferme ses opérations de branche dans l’Oregon et déplace tous les emplois à la maison à Hawkesbury. La compagnie a publié un avis sur son siteWeb qui prévoit la fermeture de l’instal- lation de conception et de fabrication Dart Aerospace à Eugene, en Oregon, d’ici la fin de cette année. L’opération de l’usine de branchement conçoit des outils, des crochets et d’autres types de pièces d’hélicoptères. La fermeture de l’installation des États- Unis signifie une augmentation de la taille de lamain-d’œuvre dans les installations de la maison de la société à Hawkesbury. Dart Aerospace va déménager ces emplois, stimu- lant lamain-d’œuvre actuelle à Hawkesbury de 85 à 105 employés. Cheapskate thieves and vandals have been hitting on La Friperie de Hawkesbury. The used clothing and thrift story on Car- tier Boulevard has been the target of some unwelcome and uncouth clientele. Police have received calls about thefts from the store’s after-hour donation bins. In some cases the store’s volunteer staff have arrived the morning after to find items of clothing scattered around the parking lot area. The OPP will increase the number and frequency of patrols in the neighbourhood to both discourage further incidents of mischief and theft and also catch any of the perpe- trators in the act. Theft and/or trespassing charges could be possible for anyone caught at the site without good reason to be there. Anyone who sees any suspicious persons outside of La Friperie and near the donation bins after the store’s business hours is asked to call the Hawkesbury OPP detachment at 1-888-310-1122.

West Nile virus detected in Ottawa Ottawa Public Health (OPH) has confirmed the first confirmed presence of West Nile virus in the municipality this year. The virus source is the Northern house mosquito, which thrives in human-inhabited areas. One infected mosquito has been confirmed in the urbanized area of the city. The OPH stated it will proceed with a “proactive plan” to deal with the situation through regular weekly monitoring of man-made standing water sites like ditches and storm water management ponds on municipal land. The OPH will also apply a larvicide in these areas. The bacteria in the biological control method attacks mosquito larvae but does not harm anything else. Statistics Canada has recently released the key highlights of the 2016 Canadian Census. Most notably, the percentage of one-person households is at an all-time high in Canada’s 150-year history. Ontario is one of the areas with the highest percentage of couples living with children, whereasWestern Canada is trending the opposite. Unlike the more famous molecule, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD is com- pletely nonpsychoactive, meaning patients don’t get “high” off of this organic chemical. CBD is all relaxation without intoxication.

Members of Hawkesbury Fire Services and representatives from fire departments throughout Prescott-Russell gave Gilles Joly a firefighters sendoff salute, as pallbearers exited with the casket following the funeral services on August 5, at Saint-Pierre- Apôtre church in Hawkesbury, for the former volunteer member of Hawkesbury’s fire department. An opportunity to commune with nature and learnmore about the value of local forests in the day-to-day lives of residents is one of the benefits of attending theWood and Forest Festival in Riceville, next month. Boisés Est, a regional non-profit group representing landowners and stakeholders in the local wood industry, hosts the Fair on Sept. 10, in the Village of Riceville in The Nation Municipa- lity, about a six-minute drive from the village of St-Isidore. The fair site is at 4029 County Road 16, and runs from L’occasion de communiquer avec la nature et d’en apprendre davantage sur la valeur des forêts locales dans la vie quotidienne des résidents est l’un des avantages d’assister au Festival du bois et des forêts, à Riceville, le mois prochain. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fair activities include displays of pro- ducts and services related to forestry, harvesting, cultivation, and tree plan- ting.There will bemore than 50 booths featuring woodworkers and other arti- sans, companies, and organizations which depend on the forest for wood supplies for crafts, construction mate- rials, and as locations for recreation or spiritual healing. There will be a de- monstration of acrobatic tree pruning during the day. The fair will also feature an open market for woodlot owners, artisans, and do-it-yourself enthusiasts. Up to 100 lots of boards, burls, carving blocks and other wood supply specialties will be available in walnut, black cherry, maple, white pine, basswood and other popular regional tree species. There may also be a few “oddities” available. Also available during the day will be various forms of live entertainment, including amusical show, painters and carvers at work, and a mini zoo for children. A concession area will also be on site. Une randonnée pour le coeur et l’AVC
Le dimanche matin était froid et nuageux mais, pour Alain Brazeau et d’autres pro- priétaires de Mustang, c’était une belle journée pour conduire, surtout pour une collecte de fonds pour la Fondation des maladies du cœur et de l’AVC. « C’est pour mon fils que nous faisons cela », a déclaré Alain Brazeau, alors qu’il se tenait à côté de sa Mustang GT 2016, en attendant le début de la quatrième randon- née annuelle du Poker run du ClubMustang Prescott-Russell. Le fils de M. Brazeau, Jecy, est décédé il y a quelques années d’une affection cardia- que. Il fait partie du rassemblement annuel depuis le début à aide à recueillir des fonds pour la Fondation des maladies du cœur. Il est également fan des voitures Mustang depuis près d’une décennie maintenant, depuis l’achat de sa première Mustang dé- capotable. « C’est pour le plaisir de conduire », a-t-il ajouté. Plus de 50 conducteurs de Mustang, de motocyclistes de Harley-Davidson et autres ont quitté le stationnement du Canadian Tire à Hawkesbury, vers 9 h 30 pour une randonnée dans la campagne de Prescott- Russell, pour revenir au point de départ à Hawkesbury. Au moment de mettre sous presse, les organisateurs du Poker run ont anoncé que plus de 2500 $ ont été amassés lors de l’événement de cette année, pour aider à la recherche et aux programmes de soutien de la Fondation des maladies du cœur et des accidents vasculaires cérébraux.
