Une première Journée Glengarry-Prescott-Russell sur la Colline du Parlement
Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, Francis Drouin, plusieurs centaines de personnes y ont as- sisté, incluant des ministres fédéraux, des députés fédéraux et du personnel parle- mentaire. Les huit maires régionaux des CUPR, ainsi que lemaire et maire adjoint de Glengarry Nord, étaient également présents, et ont profité de l’occasion pour rencontrer plusieurs ministres et leur personnel afin de faire avancer certaines priorités régionales, dont l’élargissement du chemin de comté 17, la reconstruction de la Résidence Prescott et Russell, l’expansion du Parc d’affaires 417 à Russell et le financement fédéral pour le logement social. « Je suis tellement fier et reconnaissant de cette rare occasion demettre nos produits lo- caux en vedette sur la Colline parlementaire. Les Comtés unis de Prescott et Russell (CUPR) et le canton de Glengarry Nord ont tenu la première édition de la Journée Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, hier, sur la Colline du Parlement à Ottawa, en présence de plusieurs représentants fédéraux. La Journée Glengarry-Prescott-Russell est une occasion pour la région de mettre en valeur ses nombreux produits du terroir. Depuis 2008, l’événement s’est tenu six fois à Queen’s Park, l’Assemblée législative du gouvernement de l’Ontario, et toujours avec grand succès. Cette année, pour la première fois, cette vitrine a été offerte au Parlement. Encouragées par le député fédéral de

Avec moins de deux semaines pour or- ganiser le concert bénéfice qui s’est tenu le 20 mai dernier, le comité organisateur du Concert Inondation d’espoir pour Cla- rence-Rockland se dit satisfait du succès retentissant de l’évènement et de la géné- rosité de ses partenaires. Ensemble, ils ont permis de ramasser 9000 $, qui seront remis directement à Centraide pour les sinistrés locaux de Clarence-Rockland. La journée de collecte de fonds se dé- roulait au Club Powers sur la rue Giroux, qui abrite les Chevaliers de Colomb de Rockland, qui avait été décoré pour l’occa- sion par la garderie Ste-Trinité. La journée a débuté avec les activités pour enfants, dont la ferme à Jojo, la fanfare des cadets de l’Air 832 Twillick et des struc- tures gonflables, pour ensuite laisser place à un souper spaghetti, gracieuseté de Chez l’Boulanger. Un arbre symbolique a notamment été remis à la Cité de Clarence-Rockland, sur le- quel des mains d’enfants avaient été peintes pour symboliser l’espoir. Parmi les artistes qui ont performé pen- dant ce concert de cinq heures, on retrouvait Fred Delorme, Le groupe Swing, Gabrielle Goulet, Robert Thériault, Eric Michael Hawks, North Easton, Martine Parisien, DamienMaze, The Lefties et Andy Vickers : A Johnny Cash Experience.

Beware of the black bear
Township. An earlier sighting that day had himaround the County Road 19 area, known to locals as Nine Mile Road, between the villages of Wendover and Curran. The OPP is keeping track of sightings. The latest information they have is that the bear seems to be missing a leg and so, its progress eastward through the area is slow. It also seems to be trying to avoid encounters with humans. Residents in the rural areas along the bear’s likely route are advised to make sure nothing is left out in their yards, which could prove attractive to the animal.That includes not leaving pet food outside or any kind of
household garbage that includes leftover food, which the bear might scavenge. Keep pets indoors also. Report any bear sightings to police and stay indoors. If left alone, the bear will move on to wherever its destination is. Police are not equipped with bear-con- tainment traps or tranquilizer guns. If they are forced to deal with the bear to protect human lives, they will shoot to kill.

A black bear is making a slow journey through the fields andwoods and along the back roads of Prescott and Russell counties. The bear was first reported seen in the vi- cinity of the village of Bourget, within the City of Clarence-Rockland’s municipal bounds. As of last Friday afternoon, before the May long weekend, the most recent report is a sighting of him seated beneath a tree in the woodlands around the Concession 2 road neighbourhood, in Alfred-Plantagenet

Le Centre Novas-CALACS francophone de Prescott-Russell lance un nouveau pro- gramme intitulé LGBTQui? S’informer pour mieux comprendre . Le programme a pour but de démystifier la perception des gens envers la communauté transgenre. Le premier atelier aura lieu le 17 mai à la Légion de Hawkesbury à 18 h. C’est accompagné du comité encadreur composé de trois femmes transgenres qu’Anne Jutras, directrice générale du Centre Novas-CALACS, et Mélanie Rioux, coordonnatrice de prévention, sensibilisa- tion et éducation, ont présenté leur nou- veau programme de sensibilisation envers les personnes transgenres, le tout dans la bibliothèque de l’École secondaire publique Le Sommet, le 8 mai 2017. Looking for bilingual volunteers The Ottawa River Festival is looking for bilingual volunteers, 14 years and over, to assist with various tasks from June 30 to July 3, 2017. On Friday, from 5:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., su- pervision of access points at Du Moulin Park is needed as well as greeting on the bus and at the park. On Saturday, either from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. or from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., the greeting on the bus and at the park contin- ues. On Sunday, greeting continues on the bus and at the park from noon to 5 p.m. or 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., supervision of inflatable structures will be needed. Finally, on Monday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., stagehands will be needed as well as greeting on the bus and at the park. Sous le thème D’hier à demain , le comité cherchait à tisser des liens entre les généra- tions et pour cette raison, une consultation de documents historiques à la bibliothèque de Bourget s’est avérée nécessaire, en plus des rencontres de médiations culturelles auprès des adultes, des aînés et des élèves. D’un côté financier, des demandes de subventions ont été faites en plus des de- mandes de dons auprès de la communauté bourgetaine. À la suite d’une réponse favo- rable à une demande de fonds d’Ontario 150, le comité a procédé à un appel aux artistes et le choix du jury s’est arrêté sur la candi- dature de Bernard Lévesque, artiste peintre accompli, en plus d’être un « gars du coin ». « Depuis la création du comité, nous tra- vaillons très fort à la réalisation de ce projet qui nous tient à cœur et qui verra le jour, le 29 juin 2017 », a ajoutéMme Drouin. En effet, l’inauguration officielle de l’œuvre murale se fera au coin des rues Champlain et Laval, dès 19h, cérémonie au cours de laquelle on soulignera le 150 e de la Confédération.
Dans le cadre des célébrations du 150 e an- niversaire de la Confédération du Canada, Bourget affichera de nouvelles couleurs. En effet, afin de valoriser le patrimoine et l’environnement du village, en plus d’ac- croître son potentiel touristique, le comité d’embellissement de Bourget propose un projet de murale géante sur l’édifice Ser- den, occupé par l’épicerie Mike Dean’s. « C’est en revenant de Plantagenet, au printemps 2015, que j’entre dans le village de Bourget. Arrivée aux quatre coins du village, je réalise qu’une murale serait le projet idéal pour couvrir cemur dénudé au cœur de notre village », a expliqué Suzanne Drouin, l’instigatrice du projet. Ce croise- ment, situé au coin des rues Champlain et Laval, est fréquenté toute la journée sur les axes Rockland-Cornwall et Plantagenet- Ottawa. « Un peu plus tard, j’apprends qu’une autre résidente de Bourget, Jocelyne Leroux, a eu lamême idée, comme projet pour em- bellir notre communauté. » Curieusement, sans qu’elles ne le réa- lisent, chacune avait entrepris des dé- marches de son propre côté. Maintenant, ces deux dames unissent leurs forces pour mener à bien cette activité de médiation culturelle intergénérationnelle. The Salvation Army is setting up in the Clarence-Rockland area. The international non-profit service group, known to many as “the Sally Ann”, now has an arrangement with the City of Clarence-Rockland to set up three of its thrift store donation bins within themunicipality. The bins will be set up at the city landfill, at 2335 Lalonde Road in Bourget. Before, the nearest Salvation Army dona- tion bin to Clarence-Rockland was on Innes Road in Orléans. “The City of Clarence-Rockland is proud of its partnership with the Salvation Army Thrift Store,” stated mayor Guy Desjardins in a news release. “We are contributing to increasing the life span of our landfill site in addition to helping an organization in its mission of helping the less fortunate.” The aid group announced its new pres- ence in the Clarence-Rockland area dur- ing the annual Spring Clean-Up, over the May 6 weekend, when residents could bring particular discard items to the landfill for disposal without paying a drop-off fee. Under the arrangement with the City, the Salvation Army bins will be available for drop off every Friday and Saturday, for almost- new or gently-used clothing, household goods, furniture, and other items that might otherwise end up in the landfill. Une randonnée pour souligner la Journée du cheval
donnent rendez-vous pour une randonnée à cheval spéciale. Cette année, ils iront rendre visite aux résidents de la Résidence St-Mathieu à Hammond. En effet, un groupe d’amis de la région se rencontrent pour une randonnée chaque année, le premier samedi de juin, qui est consacré à la Journée du cheval au Canada. Ensemble, Canada Équestre et les associa- tions équestres provinciales et territoriales invitent tous les Canadiens à profiter de ce moment unique pour honorer, découvrir et explorer le monde des chevaux. Il s’agira pour plusieurs de la première occasion de se trouver en présence d’un cheval en chair et en os. La Journée du cheval est aussi l’occasion rêvée de rendre hom- mage aux nombreux apports des chevaux dans l’héritage national, ainsi qu’aux gens de tous les âges et de tous les horizons qui côtoient ces animaux dans leurs sports et leurs loisirs. Il est à noter qu’en cas de pluie, l’activité sera remise au 10 juin.

Opening of ATV Trails delayed The opening of the ATV trails is delayed due to the high-water level and overall trail conditions caused by the inclement weather. It is required to stay off the trails until Monday May 29, as the ATV Club of Eastern Ontario Inc. wardens will be out before hand for trail inspection and maintenance. For practical reasons, the “Trail Closed” signs will be taken down the weekend before the opening. Loin d’elle l’idée de s’en départir et de les vendre, les collections seront de prime abord pour le plaisir des yeux ! Les collectionneurs inscrits se verront assigner un endroit spé- cifique sur la rue Principale et pourront y installer leurs tables.
Afin de souligner les 150 ans du Canada, un rassemblement extérieur de 150 col- lectionneurs sera organisé dans les rues de Casselman. Pour y arriver, les collec- tionneurs de toutes sortes sont appelés à s’inscrire et à prendre part aux festivités. Qu’il s’agisse de chapeaux, de cartes de hockey, de disques de vinyle ou encore de voitures, les rues deviendront un grand musée le 1 er juillet prochain. Elle-même collectionneuse à ses heures, Juliette Forgues, propriétaire de la Vintage Boutique D’Antan à Casselman, tenait à organiser un évènement rassembleur pour l’occasion. « Au début, quand on annonçait que le Canada aurait 150 ans, je me disais qu’il y avait un rapport avec la boutique, vu que c’était vieux aussi. Il fallait que je fasse quelque chose, mais je ne savais pas quoi. » Peu de temps après, c’est l’annonce des 150 parties de hockey sur le canal Rideau qui l’a inspirée et c’est à ce moment qu’elle a entrepris des démarches afin de voir son projet se concrétiser. « Ça ne s’est jamais fait et lorsque j’en parle, les gens trouvent que c’est vraiment une bonne idée. » En période de recrutement, elle cherche à ajouter aux 60 collectionneurs inscrits afin d’atteindre son objectif de 150. De plus, le territoire n’étant pas un facteur, l’activité est ouverte à tout amateur d’objets de collection, venant de n’importe quel endroit. Les collections peuvent être inusitées et de tous genres : « Je vais avoir des autos antiques, des tracteurs, des charrues et je devrais avoir des ski-doo », a-t-elle déclaré lors d’une entrevue. D’ailleurs, lors de cette même journée, des activités familiales organisées par le Village auront lieu au Complexe JR Bris- son et ajouteront à l’ambiance festive. Mme
